Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv made history by downing FC Barcelona 103-89 in its first-ever EuroLeague game. All eyes were on Vasilije Micic, who made his first EuroLeague appearance after two seasons away. He didn’t disappoint, opening the game with a catch-and-shoot three-pointer and sealing the win with a late triple.

While several Hapoel players caught Barça off guard, those familiar with the BKT EuroCup knew exactly what to expect from [Antonio Blakeney](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/antonio-blakeney/013402/).

Last season, Blakeney was unstoppable in the EuroCup’s biggest moments. He posted 32 points and 9 rebounds for a PIR of 30 in Game 3 of the semifinals against Valencia Basket, and dominated the finals against Gran Canaria with averages of 22.0 points and 5.5 rebounds for a PIR of 23.5. Coming off the bench, he brought his trademark defensive intensity and instant offense, scoring in a variety of ways.

Blakeney made an immediate impact on Tuesday, becoming the first player to reach double digits in scoring. He delivered a momentum-shifting block on Dario Brizuela early in the second quarter. Entering the game with Barça leading 14–15 and 3 minutes left in the first quarter, he helped flip the score to 42–39 by the time he returned to the bench. In the third quarter, Blakeney scored 6 unanswered points to push Hapoel ahead for good at 77–61. He added another block on Myles Cale at the start of the fourth.

In his EuroLeague debut, Blakeney needed just 19 minutes to score 20 points, shooting 3-of-4 from deep and a perfect 11-of-11 from the line. He also recorded 2 blocks and drew 4 fouls for a PIR of 22. Micic and Dan Oturu each added 18 points.

Hapoel’s 103 points were nearly the most ever scored against Barça in a non-overtime game. The record belongs to Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, which beat Barça 104–80 at Palau Blaugrana on April 7, 2022.

“I think we played hard. We followed the game plan, obviously. They’re a great team, and I can’t say we did anything much better, but we had a click tonight and that’s good,” Blakeney said after the game. “It’s the first game, so we just have to build on that.

“We’re dynamic. We have a lot of offensive options. We all trust each other. We just have to stick together and keep playing,” he added.

Hapoel will face Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Podgorica, Montenegro in Round 2 on Friday.

Dubai Basketball made its EuroLeague debut a memorable one, beating visiting Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade 89-76 on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Arena. Dubai opened the game by making its first 7 three-point tries and trailed for only one possession in the third quarter en route to a historic victory.

The winners had five scorers in double figures, led by Davis Bertans who netted 20 points on 5-for-7 three-point shooting. Dzanan Musa scored 19, Mfioundu Kabengele added 15 points, Filip Petrusev collected 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Dwayne Bacon finished with 11 points. Tyrique Jones tallied 13 points and 6 rebounds for Partizan, Dylan Osetkowski scored 12, Jabari Parker 11 and Shake Milton 10 in a losing effort.

Dubai grabbed the lead right away, making 7 of its first 8 field goal attempts. Bertans scored 11 points, making 3 three-point attempts during that span. Osetkowski sank a corner three for Partizan, but a triple apiece from Musa and Bacon helped open a 24-12 lead, and the hosts held a 28-18 lead after 10 minutes thanks to 6-for-6 shooting from three-point land.

The two teams traded baskets in the early going of the second quarter. Musa’s triple - Dubai’s seventh - extended the lead to 41-27, but Partizan caught up thanks to its presence on the offensive boards, with Isaac Bonga grabbing 4 offensive rebounds. A three-point play from Milton helped cut it to 43-36, and the margin was 47-40 at the break.

Partizan scored the first 8 points of the second half, and took its first lead 47-48. But Kabengele replied on the other end, and sparked a 17-2 run during which the big man had 8 points. Musa capped the run with a three-pointer, and the hosts were up 68-56 going into the final quarter.

Dubai scored the first 5 points in the fourth, a triple from Bertans and a close-range basket from Petrusev. The same two players scored again to make it a 20-point game, and a jumper from Justin Anderson opened an 80-58 margin. Aleksej Pokusevski and Tyrique Jones halved the deficit in the final minutes, but Dubai cruised as it celebrated a win in its historic debut.

Micic sparked Hapoel’s offense with a transition three-pointer, followed by a layup from Bryant for a 5–0 lead. Clyburn responded with a deep three and a driving layup before countering Oturu’s dunk with a close-range basket. Toko Shengelia’s layup soon gave Barca its first lead at 7–9. Ish Wainwright hit from beyond the arc and Oturu added another dunk to restore Hapoel’s advantage at 12–9. Tomas Satoransky and Punter each knocked down a triple before Micic found space for an uncontested layup. Punter nailed a step-back jumper, which was matched by Johnathan Motley’s powerful finish inside. Collin Malcolm took charge with an alley-oop layup, while Blakeney and Nico Laprovittola added three-pointers. Jones’s layup pushed Hapoel ahead 23–20. Laprovittola kept Barca in rhythm with a three-point play, and Blakeney traded triples with Dario Brizuela to level the score at 26–26 after the first quarter.

Wainwright electrified the crowd with a soaring put-back layup early in the second quarter. Tomer Ginat converted off an inbounds pass to extend Hapoel’s lead to 30–26. Shortly after, Jones capped a 9–0 run with a layup, forcing Barca to call timeout at 35–26. Vesely responded with a tip-in, and Clyburn followed Ginat’s layup with a three-pointer. Vesely then knocked down his signature mid-range jumper, prompting Hapoel to stop the game at 37–33. Micic scored inside, assisted by Blakeney, in a sequence that seemed to break the game open at 90–74 with 7 minutes remaining. After Punter and Motley traded three-pointers, Vesely banked in a close-range shot. Jones answered with a triple to stretch the gap to 96–79. Vesely dunked and Clyburn added a jump hook, prompting Hapoel to call timeout at 96–85 with 3 minutes left. Vesely knocked down a mid-range jumper as Hapoel began managing the clock. Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade has announced that it reached an agreement on a one-year extension with small forward Mario Nakic, who is now under contract until the end of June 2027.

On the eve of the new EuroLeague season, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade has announced that it reached an agreement on a one-year extension with small forward [Mario Nakic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mario-nakic/007632/), who is now under contract until the end of June 2027.

Nakic (2.03 meters, 24 years old) arrived to Partizan in the summer 2024, and last season appeared in 12 EuroLeague games in limited fashion.

That signing a summer ago marked Nakic's return to his hometown. He previously played on Partizan's junior teams and his father Ivo is a club legend who played on the club's EuroLeague championship team from 1992.

Nakic left Belgrade as a talented teenager to join Real Madrid in 2015. He made his professional debut with Real in the 2017-18 season as a 16-year-old and made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with *Los Blancos* in the 2019-20 campaign.

A year earlier, Nakic led U18 Real Madrid to the 2019 Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament championship as the tournament MVP. He averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals in four games and was the star of the show as he set championship game records with 33 points and a performance index rating of 41.

After his time with Real, Nakic played a year with Ostende in Belgium, where he helped the team win the Belgian League and Cup double in 2021 and then spent a season with MoraBanc Andorra in the Spanish League. Prior to joining Partizan, Nakic spent two seasons with Igokea of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he averaged 8.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the 2023-24 ABA League season.

On the eve of its EuroLeague debut, [Dubai Basketball](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/dubai-basketball/dub/) is ready for its grand arrival on the biggest stage. As general manager Dejan Kamenjasevic put it: “Only impossible and unimaginable things are possible here.”

Kamenjasevic was speaking at a press conference in Dubai ahead of the team’s season opener against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade. Joining him were Euroleague Basketball CEO Paulius Motiejunas and Eisa Sharif Al Marzooqi, Director of Events at Dubai Sports Council.

“We are really happy to welcome Dubai into the EuroLeague, to bring this passion to Dubai,” Motiejunas said during his opening remarks. “I know that the club is growing exponentially. This is the first step out of many that we will do.”

A great deal of work has gone into turning Dubai into a EuroLeague club. Founded in 2023, the team only made its professional debut last season in the ABA League. But for Kamenjasevic, the key to Dubai’s rise has been its commitment to building from the ground up.

“We started from zero,” he said. “We started from the academy, from the kids. We built the foundation a long time ago in order to get to this point.”

As the project gained momentum, so did its ability to attract elite talent. Davis Bertans and Klemen Prepelic were among the first to join last summer, and this offseason saw Dzanan Musa, Aleksa Avramovic and Filip Petrusev, among others, sign on.

The fanbase has grown, too – just look at its EuroLeague opener at Coca-Cola Arena. Already sold out.

“I think Dubai is an attractive city to live in and by adding a team, the fans will come to Dubai for a reason,” said Al Marzooqi. “You can watch basketball and have a nice holiday, with the hotels, the activities and the attractions that we have. Dubai is ready, always. We will offer more to all the fans who visit the city.”

Motiejunas echoed that sentiment, recalling his own trip to Dubai for an ABA League game last season.

“You come outside, it’s dark, you turn right and there’s the Burj Khalifa,” he said. “I felt like I was in a EuroLeague game… I’ve never been in a city like this. I was blown away.

“There are so many international people here who don’t get the chance to watch the EuroLeague when they come to live here, so now we’re bringing this passion to Dubai.”
