The upcoming 2023-24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season marks a start of a new era for Valencia Basket, with the team having undergone major changes over the summer. There will be more than a half dozen new faces wearing Valencia's famous orange jersey as the club embarks upon its fourth EuroLeague campaign in the last five years.

Guided by second-year head coach Alex Mumbru, a revamped roster will go in search of Valencia's second-ever playoff berth, following the club's lone EuroLeague playoff appearance back in the 2010-11 season.

### Veteran frontcourt leadership

The biggest change at Valencia will be getting used to not seeing club icons Bojan Dubljevic and Sam Van Rossom, who both parted ways with the club. That does not mean, however, that Valencia will lack veteran presence.

Big men Victor Claver and Brandon Davies, who are entering their ninth and seventh EuroLeague campaigns, respectively, have reunited at Valencia after previously spending two years together at FC Barcelona. Meanwhile, point guard Stefan Jovic, a veteran of seven seasons in the competition, is another experienced head on Coach Mumbru's roster.

Davies and Jovic are among seven summer arrivals, in addition to guard Kassius Robertson, forwards Nate Reuvers and Semi Ojeleye, and centers Damien Inglis and Boubacar Toure.

### Tough early-season schedule

Valencia starts the season with back-to-back home games, including a season opener against AS Monaco on Friday, October 6. However, it's what comes next that will present a big challenge for Valencia. Not only do the team's next three games come on the road, with trips to Tel Aviv, Istanbul and Kaunas, but Valencia will play away from home in six of the eight games between Rounds 3 and 10.

It will be a tough task for a new-look team that is expected to be in search of on-court chemistry. On the other hand, overcoming such a tough stretch and getting off to a good start would be the perfect way for Valencia to get the new campaign underway.

Israeli champion Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv enters the 2023-24 campaign full of hope with the vast majority of its team back after coming within a few baskets of reaching the Final Four. Maccabi led with 4 minutes remaining in Game 5 of its playoff series against AS Monaco only to see its hopes of reaching Kaunas disappear.

 

Now Maccabi will look to end a decade-long Final Four drought, its last appearance came in 2014 when it won the crown the club's sixth continental crown. And Coach Oded Kattash and co. believe they have all the tools to get to Berlin.

 

### Eight players return

###  

Having eight players back on the roster this season is something not seen in Tel Aviv since the Anthony Parker- and Nikola Vujcic- led teams of the mid-2000s. The duo of Wade Baldwin and Lorenzo Brown is in the conversation for the best backcourt in the EuroLeague and forward Bonzie Colson comes off a fantastic debut season in Europe's premier competition.

 

Big men Josh Nebo and Roman Sorkin are still trending up after just two EuroLeague campaigns, while veterans John DiBartolomeo, Jake Cohen, and Rafi Menco all play impactful roles under Kattash's system.

 

### Talented additions

 

Maccabi made key additions all over the court. Jasiel Rivero promises to be a main fixture in the paint and James Webb is a top-tier inside-outside option at the "four". Playmaker Tamir Blatt gives the team a different offensive look off the bench while swingman Antonius Cleveland promises to make waves on both ends of the floor.

 

The X-factor could be in the stands; Maccabi had the best home record in the EuroLeague last season at 15-2 and Maccabi has already sold out Menorah Mivtachim Arena for all of its home games this season. If that fortress remains intact, Maccabi could be well on its ways to achieving its goals.

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne is set to start its 10th Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season since the turn of the millennium. It has been in Europe's marquee club basketball competition in each of the last five campaigns and is set to move to the magnificent LDLC Arena in late November, which can host as many as 16,000 fans. In other words, it is the start of a new era for the team.

 

ASVEL finished at the bottom of the standings last season with an 8-26 record, so it has made sure to put together a more competitive roster. The team features a good mix of experienced players that know to how be successful at this level, together with some up-and-coming prospects that are ready to learn and contribute. T.J. Parker remains ASVEL's head coach. 

 

### Well-rounded veterans

 

The French side will once again rely on Nando De Colo to be its leader, especially in crunch time. A deadly shooter, De Colo is also a terrific pick-and-roll player due to his off-the-charts basketball IQ. Charles Kahudi and David Lighty are ASVEL's glue guys, especially on defense, and Joffrey Lauvergne has recovered from a serious injury and is ready to prove he can play again at the highest level.

 

ASVEL can also call upon Youssoupha Fall, one of the toughest centers to guard due to his size and mobility, and playmaker Paris Lee, who took a step forward with Panathinaikos Athens last season and is prepared for a new challenge.

 

### Plenty of new names

 

ASVEL has added new players everywhere. De Colo and new signing Lee will be joined by veteran shooter Edwin Jackson, all-around swingman Boris Dallo, up-and-coming talent Noam Yaacov and shooting guard Frank Jackson, who gives ASVEL an extra scoring punch from downtown. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot arrives to take care of small details and help in many different ways; his adjustment to a bigger role should be a big key for Coach Parker's team.

 

Mike Scott is a marquee addition at power forward, as he can stretch the floor, power the boards and score in many different ways. Mbaye Ndiaye is a very versatile player, especially on defense, using his intuition and quickness to get steals and block shots. John Egbunu is a force of nature who can play above the rim and be explosive at both ends. ASVEL looks bigger, more physical and better. It is ready to bounce back and open a new chapter in its EuroLeague history.

After appointing two-time champion Pablo Laso as head coach, expectation levels have risen at BMW Park heading into the new campaign. The German club failed to make the playoffs under the stewardship of former head coach Andrea Trinchieri in the 2022-23 season, as Bayern finished in 15th position with a record of 11-23. Having had back-to-back postseason trips under Coach Trinchieri in 2020-21 and 2021-22, it was viewed as a disappointment, although it must be said that injuries were a recurring problem for the team last season.

### World Cup success

While both Bayern and fellow German club ALBA Berlin finished last season in the bottom four positions in the standings, there is plenty of excitement in Germany heading into the new EuroLeague season. That is thanks, in large part, to the success of the German national team at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, with Germany becoming world champions for the first time in its history.

Bayern had three players on Germany's World Cup-winning roster – Andreas Obst, Isaac Bonga and Niels Giffey – and they have all been reveling in that triumph, especially at Munich's world-famous Oktoberfest event.

### Turning the page to a new era

On top of that, there is growing momentum at Bayern, with Coach Laso's arrival being followed by the signings of Leandro Bolmaro, Carsen Edwards and Sylvain Francisco. Not only are they all young – Bolmaro is 23 while Edwards and Francisco are 25 – but they should ensure that Laso can implement his high-pace style of basketball with minimal problems.

Later came the return of Devin Booker, who previously played for Bayern between 2016 and 2019, as well as the aforementioned addition of Ibaka. Bayern has also been building a new arena, SAP Garden, which should be completed next spring, so things are certainly on the up. It's a fun time to be a Bayern fan, that's for sure.

Scoring the basketball is a skill that often separates a good player from a great player. Fortunately for Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fans, there are several elite scorers in the competition, which should make the race for the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy all the more interesting next season.

Here, I will offer my 10 strongest candidates for the award before a game has been played. Some names not included in my list may end up making me look silly, but these 10 players are the ones that have made the cut for me.

### 10\. Dzanan Musa, Real Madrid

The 24-year-old's first year as a Real player could not have gone better, with his scoring playing a big part in leading the team to the EuroLeague title. Able to score from all three levels, [Musa ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dzanan-musa/006540/)seems primed to take another step in his career, which should put him in contention to secure the Top Scorer trophy.

### 9\. Lorenzo Brown, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv

After leading Spain to gold at EuroBasket 2022, [Brown ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/lorenzo-brown/009622/)followed that up by having a career year in the EuroLeague last season. He showed why he is one of the best players currently playing in the EuroLeague in 2022-23, not only shining with his playmaking but also his scoring. Another strong year by Brown on the offensive end should spell good news for Maccabi.

### 8\. Mike James, AS Monaco

Is there a player in the EuroLeague that scores the ball as beautifully as [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/)? Now entering his 10th EuroLeague season, the American continues to amaze with his play on the court. Monaco has four elite guards in its backcourt – James, Kemba Walker, Jordan Loyd and Elie Okobo – but much of the scoring load is likely to still come from the No. 55.

### 7\. Shabazz Napier, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade

He may have only made his EuroLeague debut in the latter part of last season, but it didn’t take long for [Napier ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shabazz-napier/011224/)to show that he belongs at this level. The American switched EA7 Emporio Armani Milan for Zvezda this summer, so if he performs at a similar level to what we saw in his 12 appearances last season, a run at the Top Scorer trophy will not be out o the question. 

### 6\. Shane Larkin, Anadolu Efes Istanbul

An injury restricted [Larkin ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shane-larkin/007200/)to just 17 appearances last season, but he showed glimpses that he was getting back to his best. It's worth remembering that he holds the all-time EuroLeague record for points in a game – he had 49 against FC Bayern Munich in November 2019 – and a change of coach could see Larkin explode offensively once again.

### 5\. Nikola Mirotic, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan

It is not often that EuroLeague MVP changes teams, but that is what happened to [Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/), who went from FC Barcelona to Milan. Mirotic had to deal with a lot of off-the-court noise last season, so a chance to start afresh in Milan should spell bad news for the rest of the competition. Don't be surprised to see him among the EuroLeague's top scorers come next April.

### 4\. Will Clyburn, Anadolu Efes Istanbul

One of my favorite players to watch in the entire EuroLeague is [Clyburn](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/will-clyburn/004888/), who should be among the leading contenders to secure the Top Scorer Trophy. The 33-year-old is a delight to watch offensively and, coming off a career year scoring-wise, he may be one of those who thrives the most in the system of new head coach Erdem Can. Having Darius Thompson running the show should make Clyburn an even bigger threat, too.

### 3\. Kevin Punter, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade

There's a reason why Partizan fans love [Punter ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/kevin-punter/009862/)so much: he is a baller. The Partizan team captain returned to the EuroLeague in the 2022-23 campaign and reminded everyone just how good he really is. Punter – Partizan's main offensive weapon – has shown an ability to score the basketball that makes him a prime candidate for the Top Scorer award.

### 2\. Wade Baldwin, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv

You could make an argument that [Baldwin ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/wade-baldwin-iv/009863/)was the best guard in the EuroLeague last season. The consistency of the American's scoring made him an incredibly dangerous weapon, and Maccabi will again need him to shine on the offensive end if it is to reach its first Final Four since 2014. Having found a home at Maccabi, Baldwin is set for another big season.

### 1\. Markus Howard, Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz

Early last season, it looked like there was no stopping [Howard](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/markus-howard/011948/), who lit it up on the offensive end. With backcourt partner Darius Thompson having left for Efes, the 24-year-old has even more responsibility on his shoulders entering his sophomore EuroLeague season. If Howard can add more consistency to his scoring in a leading role, I think he will end being the league's leading scorer next season.

Some have already been discussed at length, such as Kemba Walker, Juancho Hernangomez and PJ Dozier, while others showed their talent in last season's BKT EuroCup and are set to make the step up.

### 10\. John Egbunu, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne

While Youssoupha Fall has established himself as ASVEL's go-to center over the last few years, he now has strong competition – in the literalist sense of the word – from Egbunu. The Nigerian big man impressed in the Turkish League in 2022-23, averaging 11.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 25 games for Gaziantep, and his main task in the coming season will be to help protect ASVEL's paint.

### 9\. Devontae Cacok, Virtus Segafredo Bologna

Cacok, Virtus's third signing of the summer, is one of those players that has the potential to make a splash in the EuroLeague. The American power forward paired 9.6 points with 5.6 rebounds at CSKA Moscow last season in his first year in Europe, so he will be eager to build on that experience as he embarks upon his EuroLeague journey with Virtus. 

### 8\. Kassius Robertson, Valencia Basket

After leading the Spanish League in scoring last season with 17.4 points per game at Obradoiro, Robertson now has a chance to play in the EuroLeague with Valencia. While he will be competing with the likes of Chris Jones, Jared Harper and Josep Puerto for minutes, head coach Alex Mumbru will be hoping that Robertson provides a regular scoring burst from the bench.

### 7\. Brady Manek, Zalgiris Kaunas

In recent times, when Zalgiris has signed American players it has tended to go well. In the case of Manek, he got his first taste of European hoops last season at Turkish side Tofas, posting 15.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 13 games. For a Zalgiris side hoping to once again make the playoffs, it will need Manek to emerge as one of the EuroLeague's best rookies.

### 6\. Antonius Cleveland, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv

Two-way players are a commodity in the EuroLeague, and Cleveland has shown that he can make a big impact on both ends of the floor. Having paired 15.8 points with 1.9 steals in 28 Australian League games for the Adelaide 36ers, he then averaged 17.6 points and 1.8 steals in 11 Israeli League fixtures for Hapoel Eilat. Let's see if he can make a similar impact for Maccabi in the EuroLeague.

### 5\. Marko Simonovic, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade

Two years after leaving for the NBA, Simonovic is back in Serbia. The 23-year-old center was one of the brightest prospects on the continent after shining with Mega Basket in 2020-21, so he has the chance to remind everyone of his talent once again. Zvezda fans will be hoping that Simonovic can take to the EuroLeague like a duck to water.

### 4\. Nikos Rogkavopoulos, Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz

A member of the Greek national team, Rogkavopoulos could quickly become a fans' favorite at Buesa Arena. Just 22, the forward left his native Greece last summer by joining Turkish side Merkezefendi, where he posted 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 Turkish League games. After previously featuring in the BKT EuroCup with Promitheas Patras in 2021-22, he'll now make the step up to the EuroLeague.

### 3\. Terry Tarpey, AS Monaco

With so many scorers on Monaco's roster, defensive-minded players like Tarpey will be incredibly important. The France international has established himself as one of the best lockdown defenders at the guard position in Europe over the last few years, so his play could be what helps get Monaco over the line come the business end of the season. Keep an eye out for Tarpey come playoff time.

### 2\. Dario Brizuela, FC Barcelona

There's a reason why he goes by the nickname of "Basque Mamba". Brizuela has become renowned in Spain for his scoring, and he has the ability to cause plenty of damage from Barca's bench in the coming EuroLeague season. After four years with Unicaja Malaga, the first two of which saw him play in the EuroCup, he now brings his talents to Europe's premier club basketball competition.

### 10\. Marko Simonovic, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade

Simonovic returns to Belgrade after two years in Chicago where he played for the Bulls and the club's G-League affiliate. Before that Simonovic spent two seasons with Mega Basket. He averaged a double-double for Windy City in 25 G-League games last season, while making nearly 40% of his threes, which should translate into a strong rookie season in the EuroLeague. 

### 9\. Frank Jackson, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne

Jackson was a scorer off the bench for a pair of seasons with both the New Orleans Pelicans and Detroit Pistons. He spent most of last season in the G League, where he averaged 23.2 points for Salt Lake City, and now brings his penchant for offense to ASVEL.

### 8\. Sterling Brown, ALBA Berlin

The younger brother of two-time NBA champion Shannon Brown, Sterling was a part of winning teams in his six NBA seasons; he reached the conference finals with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020 and two years later with the Dallas Mavericks. His winning DNA should serve him well in Berlin.

### 7\. PJ Dozier, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade

Dozier has spent his entire professional career in his native United States, including parts of six seasons in the NBA. He can play all three perimeter positions and should leave his mark on a talented Partizan backcourt.

### 6\. Jabari Parker, FC Barcelona

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Parker averaged 14.1 points over eight seasons with six NBA teams. The power forward now plans to show off that scoring touch as a key piece in Barcelona's rebuilt frontline.

### 5\. Willy Hernangomez, FC Barcelona

A product of the Real Madrid youth system, Hernangomez played parts of two EuroLeague seasons for Los Blancos early in his career before heading overseas for seven NBA campaigns. Now he returns to Europe with big goals at Barcelona.

### 4\. Frank Kaminsky, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade

Kaminsky is a mobile center with a great outside shooting touch. He was a lottery pick by the Charlotte Hornets after a standout college career with Wisconsin and went on to play eight NBA seasons for four clubs. He now faces a new challenge in Belgrade.

### 3\. Juancho Hernangomez, Panathinaikos Athens

The 15th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Hernangomez was just 20 years of age when he left Spain for the NBA, where he spent seven seasons. He seems ticketed for a big role at Coach Ataman's Panathinaikos squad.

### 2\. Serge Ibaka, FC Bayern Munich

After 14 seasons in the NBA, during which he won the championship title in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors and was named to the All-Defensive Team three times, Ibaka returns to Europe. In Munich, he will be reunited with Pablo Laso, who coached Ibaka at Real Madrid back in 2011.

### 1\. Kemba Walker, AS Monaco

Walker is a four-time NBA All-Star who once scored 60 points in a game and was third in the league in scoring in 2018-19. He joins a star-studded Monaco backcourt that targets nothing less than another Final Four appearance.

Throughout the media day, Milan's players took part in photo shoots, clips for the broadcasters and social media recordings, in addition to sponsorship activations and interviews. Despite not having the charismatic [Gigi Datome](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/gigi-datome-charismatic-2017-euroleague-champ-ends-his-club-career/) on the roster, following his retirement over the summer, there was a great vibe among the Milan squad.

### A former EuroLeague MVP joins the party

One of the standout names present, unsurprisingly, was [Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/olimpia-milano-inks-former-euroleague-mvp-nikola-mirotic-until-2026/), the 2021-22 EuroLeague MVP who joined Milan this summer from FC Barcelona. The addition of Mirotic has brought plenty of excitement at Milan, which has serious hopes of reaching the Final Four for the first time since 2021 and the second time this century. Mirotic, who has made it to the last three Final Fours with Barca, will be looking to make it a fourth straight trip to European basketball's showpiece event, this time in a Milan jersey.

### Milan's first EuroLeague game in 2023-24

After a disappointing campaign in 2022-23 that saw Milan miss the playoffs with a 15-19 record, hopes are high in the fashion capital as we enter the 2023-24 season.
