On a night when Barca's starting guard duo of Tomas Satoransky and Nicolas Laprovittola combined for 12 points between them – 4 for the former, 8 for the latter – Jokubaitis's 12 points off the bench provided a welcome boost, even if the Blaugrana had done much of the damage before then.

 

Jokubaitis, the reigning EuroLeague Rising Star, has the trophy in his sights once again – and a strong performance in these playoffs could make it all but a formality that he retains his trophy.

Olympiacos shattered its previous best, knocking down 16 three-pointers on 29 attempts, good for a club playoff record 55.2%.

The Reds' 16 three-pointers were one shy of a EuroLeague playoff record, set by Anadolu Efes Istanbul in the 2019 playoffs.

The Reds knocked down 6 of 13 shots in the first two quarters and 10-of-16 in the second half.

Isaiah Canaan was the one doing most of the damage. He shot 6-for-7 for the night, including 5-for-6 in the final 7 minutes of the third quarter.

"I give credit to all my teammates for finding me", Canaan said. "They know all I got to do is see one go through and anything can happen. For them to keep looking for me after I made a couple, I give them credit."

Sasha Vezenkov was 3-for-6 in the game, Shaquielle McKissic 3-for-4, while Thomas Walkup, Kostas Sloukas, Kostas Papanikolaou and Giannoulis Larentzakis all hit one triple apiece. It was all too much for Fenerbahce to overcome.

The facilitators were Sasha Vezenkov and Isaiah Canaan. The former scored 9 third-quarter points, including a three-pointer, and Vezenkov also had a pair of assists to Canaan who knocked down 5 three-pointers on 6 attempts in the third quarter.

A close-range bucker from Moustapha Fall, another starter, was the only other Olympiacos basket in the quarter which Olympiacos claimed 26-16.

The Olympiacos bench combined to score just 5 points up to that point, a triple from Giannoulis Larentzakis and a basket from Tarik Black, but in the fourth, it was the bench duo of Kostas Sloukas and Shaquielle McKissic who finished the job.

After Fenerbahce closed to within 63-58, Sloukas opened the fourth with a driving layup and soon after he knocked down a triple. Then McKissic scored the final 9 points for the hosts, 3 three-pointers on as many attempts, to open a 15-point margin and ice the game.

Curiously, Barca also has the third-best record for 100% of free throws made in a playoff game after going 13-for-13 in the 2012 playoffs. Now, the 21-for-21 set by head coach Saras Jasikevicius's team against Zalgiris will surely take some time to beat.

We just had to do our job defensively, getting the ball and just playing. Passing the ball, we had a lot of assists in the third quarter. Canaan was great, shooting the ball from a lot of spots, and finally, we managed to control the pace and manage to win by a difference of more than 10 points, which is not easy against such a good team. We will analyze this game tomorrow, but I think Game 2 will be even more difficult. "At the start of the game, we started with a defensive five, but we still lost the \[battle for the\] rebounds, something we didn't expect. Barcelona was simply more physical; they scored, they grabbed the rebounds and they had the advantage from the start of the game because of the rebounds. Our guards… \[Isaiah\] Taylor just came back from injury, he was out of his rhythm and it was my decision to save him a bit more when I saw that we are losing, so for the next game I think he will be in better rhythm and better shape. And, of course, three-pointers. Barca collapsed more because we started missing. I think today was two main keys: Barca's three-pointers, \[also\] our three-pointers and then rebounds, especially in the first half.

"They controlled almost all the game. They have more experience – as a team and as players – and they used this experience, this physicality. First of all, I think we lost physicality-wise and secondly, we lost mentally. But it was just one game."
