The promising players have come up through the club’s youth academy and now will test themselves at the top level under Coach Oded Kattash.

Sahar (1.94 meters, 18 years old) is a talented and daring guard known for his shooting ability and energy. He spent last season with Maccabi Tel Aviv Shoham in the Israeli third division. Sahar started for Israel over the summer at the U19 World Championship, where ranked sixth with 17.7 points per game. His older brother [Dori Sahar](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dori-sahar/007679/) played for Maccabi during the 2020-21 season. Oren will wear jersey #7.

Gold (2.04 meters, 18 years old) is a long, athletic forward. Last season he averaged 13.2 points on 61% two-point shooting and 43.8% three-point shooting plus 6.2 rebounds in the Israeli youth league. He also played a key role in Maccabi winning the State Cup for juniors. Gold also played for Israel at the U19 World Championship and posted 7.7 points on 50% shooting from three-point range. He is the son of Shiri Gold, a former Israeli national team player and the current director of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s girls and women’s division. Gold will wear jersey #13.

After weeks of thrilling head-to-head battles, only eight teams remain in the running for the crown.

Each season, the top five players in Europe’s premier basketball competition are recognized with All-EuroLeague First Team honors. Over the past quarter century, these elite lineups have featured some of the sport’s brightest stars and biggest legends. This matchup really shows the difference between the two eras represented. The 2024 team is faster and more athletic, the 2004 side is stronger with an incredible high basketball IQ. For the most part these teams matchup well with three-guard lineups. At forward, Hayes-Davis has a big offensive edge against Turkcan, while at the other end Turkcan might be able to overpower Hayes-Davis. Unfortunately for Lessort, few big men have ever been able to slow down Sabonis, who makes everyone on the 2004 side better.

If they played, I think that 2004 would have a huge rebounding edge, which would enable it to control the game. Team 2024 would need Nunn, James and Hayes-Davis to light it up from deep to have a realistic chance. That’s my opinion at least.

When I asked my AI assistants, they agreed. One had 2024 winning 90-82 with Arvydas Sabonis posting 18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks. EuroBasket 2025: Larkin, Turkiye down Serbia 

In arguably the best game at EuroBasket 2025 so far, Turkiye claimed first place in Group A by downing Serbia 85-90 in Riga, Latvia. Both teams were undefeated before the game. Turkiye is set to play Sweden in the Round 16, in which Serbia will face Finland. Panathinaikos AKTOR head coach [Ergin Ataman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/panathinaikos-aktor-athens/pan/ataman-ergin/)'s team finished the game with 27 points and 11 assists, and Anadolu Efes Istanbul star point guard [Shane Larkin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/shane-larkin/007200/) had to do a lot with that. 

Larkin had his best game in the tournament, finishing it with 23 points, 9 assists and no turnovers. He was the perfect counterpoint to Alperen Sengun, who barely missed a triple-double with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. [Cedi Osman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/cedi-osman/004088/) of Panathinaikos had yet another solid game for Turkiye with 16 points and [Ercan Osmani](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/ercan-osmani/012710/) of Efes had 10, guarding Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic in the final minutes of the game.

Larkin found the way to be effective throughout the game. He fired in 4 of 5 three-pointers on his way to collect 12 points and 6 assists before the break. Far from being done, Larkin went to the foul line and found a couple of backdoor layups to round a truly all-around performance. Serbia tried to surprise Turkiye by placing Jokic and another center, Nikola Milutinov of Olympiacos, together on court, but Larkin always found the right rhythm and took good decisions on offense to lead Turkiye to an important victory. 

Jokic led Serbia with 22 points. [Marko Guduric](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/marko-guduric/004004/) of EA7 Emporio Armani Mialn added 12 and [Filip Petrusev](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/filip-petrusev/011194/) of Dubai Basketball had 11 for Serbia. Added to Bogdan Bogdanovic's absence, [Vasilije Micic ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/vasilije-micic/002580/)of Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv and [Aleksa Avramovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/aleksa-avramovic/003983/) of Dubai saw limited playing time due to respective physical problems. It went all down to the final minute with Serbia leading 89-90. Sengun and Larkin made free throws, Jokic missed a highly-contested shot from downtown, then Sengun sealed the win from the foul line.

For EuroLeague fans, it was the first opportunity to see Larkin go against Micic after being Efes teammates for five seasons. Larkin and Micic made history with Efes along with Coach Ataman, winning back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022, as well as reaching another Championship Game in 2019. Only time will tell if Larkin and Micic cross paths again at EuroBasket 2025. If not, the next time they go against each other on a basketball court should be on October 3, when Efes faces Hapoel in Round 2 of the EuroLeague regular season.

Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul has signed American big man Armando Bacot for the 2025–26 season, the club announced on Wednesday

Fenerbahce finds frontcourt fix in Armando Bacot

[Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fenerbahce-beko-istanbul/roster/ulk/) has signed American big man Armando Bacot for the 2025–26 season, the club announced on Wednesday.

Bacot (2.08 meters, 25 years old) arrives from the Memphis Hustle, where he made his professional debut during the 2024-25 season. He averaged 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds over 50 games with Memphis. The big man ranked ninth in the league in rebounds.

At Fenerbahce, Bacot will help fill the void created by the injury that Jilson Bango suffered recently at AfroBasket 2025.

A five-year contributor at the University of North Carolina, Bacot helped the Tar Heels reach the 2022 NCAA Championship Game and graduated as the program’s all-time leader in rebounds and double-doubles. His 1,715 rebounds rank ninth in NCAA Division I history.

Bacot has also represented his native United States internationally. He helped the USA win the gold medal at the U18 FIBA AmeriCup in 2018 in Canada.

The move marks Bacot’s first experience in European basketball as he joins a Fenerbahce squad looking to defend its domestic and continental titles under head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius.

Virtus Bologna duo Saliou Niang and Momo Diouf both starred for Italy in its EuroBasket 2025 win over Spain, which spells good news for their club team heading into the 2025-26 EuroLeague season.

Saliou Niang, Momo Diouf give Virtus fans reason for hope in Italy win over Spain

Italy can start looking ahead to the Round of 16 at EuroBasket 2025 after a 67-63 win over Spain on Tuesday night, a game that saw [Virtus Bologna](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/virtus-segafredo-bologna/vir/) pair [Saliou Niang](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/saliou-niang/012687/) and [Momo Diouf](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mouhamet-diouf/013374/) really come to the fore.

At Cyprus's Spyros Kyprianou Arena, this highly anticipated matchup between Mediterranean foes saw Spain open the game with a 13-0 run and it ended up staying in front until Diouf tied things up at 25-25 midway through the second quarter. But it wasn't until Niang netted the final basket of the third frame that Italy enjoyed its first lead of the night at 49-47. Spain led twice the rest of the way (49-50, 62-63) but four free throws by Marco Spissu and one by Giampaolo Ricci were enough to give Italy the victory.

Come the final buzzer, Niang finished a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in addition to 2 blocks in 15 and a half minutes while Diouf posted 14 points, 8 rebounds and 1 steal in 19 minutes. Notably, the Virtus duo led Italy in PER (Niang 20, Diouf 19).

Niang, 21, and Diouf, 23, are two of the brightest prospects in Italian basketball and it won't be long until we see them playing together for Virtus in the EuroLeague, following the former's move from EuroCup side Dolomiti Energia Trento this summer. 

Diouf already made a positive impact in his rookie EuroLeague season last year but he will be given a more leading role in 2025-26 given that Ante Zizic has now departed the club. For Niang, he will be trying to fill the Isaia Cordinier-shaped hole in Virtus's team next season as he looks to build on an impressive sophomore campaign in the EuroCup.

Time will tell what kind of impact Niang and Diouf have for Virtus next year, but head coach Dusko Ivanovic must be licking his lips about what lies ahead. The key will be trying to get them to replicate the level of performance they showed for Italy on Tuesday night on a regular basis in the EuroLeague next season.

Jokubaitis, who joined Bayern this summer from Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv on a three-year contract, had been one of Lithuania’s leaders at EuroBasket. Through five games, he averaged 17.3 points on 49.3% two-point and 56.6% three-point shooting, along with 8.3 assists. Against Finland, he posted 16 points and 9 assists before the injury cut his night short.

“Injuries are unfortunately part of sports, but for Rokas this one is especially painful,” said Bayern sporting director Dragan Tarlac. “We watched him at EuroBasket with great joy — he played brilliantly and led his team like a true leader. With his spirit and competitiveness, we are sure he will come back even stronger. We will support him in every way so that he can return to the court next year.”

Jokubaitis will undergo surgery in Munich in coordination with the Lithuanian national team. Bayern is also monitoring Johannes Voigtmann, who recently arrived in Munich and will undergo a minor procedure that will keep him out for a few weeks.

Azuolas Tubelis lifted Lithuania with a rare performance

Lithuania won its third consecutive game at EuroBasket 2025 and improved to 3-1 in Group B by holding off the group host and previously undefeated Finland, 78-81 in Monday night’s showdown in Tampere, Finland. The heroes on the night were FC Bayern Munich playmaker [Rokas Jokubaitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/rokas-jokubaitis/007519/), who unfortunately needed to leave the game and be helped to the locker room in the fourth quarter with an injury, as well as Zalgiris power forward [Azuolas Tubelis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/azuolas-tubelis/008192/).

Zalgiris [brought the big man](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/zalgiris-tabs-azuolas-tubelis-on-multi-year-deal/) this past July from its archrival Rytas Vilnius, setting the 23-year-old for a EuroLeague debut in the upcoming season. And if his latest performance is any indication, Tubelis will have plenty to say in Europe’s elite club competition.

“Tubelis is a great player, he is picking up fast and growing fast”, Lithuania’s star center Jonas Valanciunas praised his teammate in a conversation with BallinEurope after the game.

On Monday night, Tubelis was Lithuania’s key chess piece in a battle to defend Finland’s star counterpart Lauri Markkanen, delivering on both ends of the floor in a big win. In his first start, Tubelis finished the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists, playing a team-high 31 minutes. He became only the third Lithuanian player to combine for more than 10 points and 10 rebounds in a EuroBasket game in the 21st century, after Linas Kleiza and Valanciunas accomplished the feat in the past.

Tubelis slowed down Markkanen in the opening quarter, validating coach Rimas Kurtinaitis’s decision to start him in place of Valanciunas. Tubelis more than held his own against Markkanen, who entered the game averaging 32.3 points, but was held to just 7 in the first half.

Lithuania pulled away in the second quarter behind Jokubaitis and Valanciunas, then opened up a double-digit lead behind Tubelis.
