Zalgiris lands explosive big man Alen Smailagic
Zalgiris Kaunas has signed explosive big man Alen Smailagic to a one-plus-one-year deal.
Smailagic (2.08 meters, 23 years old) averaged 5.5 points and 2.2 rebounds over 15:51 minutes in 31 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. It was his third season with Partizan and second in the EuroLeague.
Smailagic began his career with Beko Belgrade before heading to the United States to play for the Santa Cruz Warriors before the start of the 2018-19 season, at which point he was 18 years old. He was drafted with the 39th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and signed a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors.
He split the next two seasons between Golden State and Santa Cruz, racking up 29 appearances in the NBA. Smailagic returned home to Serbia in 2021 when he signed with Partizan, which he helped to the 2023 ABA League championship.
