Panathinaikos Athens and the Management Control Commission (MCC) have reached a settlement agreement that will impose upon the Greek club both sports and economic sanctions in accordance with Articles 7 and 8 of the EuroLeague Financial Stability and Fair Play Regulations and with Article 60 of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code. The sports sanction will consist of a deduction of two victories from the team's total in the current season's standings.

The Management Control Commission (MCC) is an independent commission that reviews the financial performance of the clubs and their compliance with the relevant regulations.

When imposing the sanction, the MCC has positively evaluated the cooperative behavior and openness of the club during the monitoring process.

The sports sanction, a two-game victory deduction, will be applied to the final 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season standings and will have no direct effect on any opposing team nor on individual and team statistics or records.

A ‘Basketball Village’ gives shelter to hundreds of families affected by Türkiye's earthquake

When the biggest earthquake in Türkiye's recent history hit 11 cities including the province of Hatay, the whole world showed its solidarity with the thousands of people affected by it. The basketball community was no exception, with clubs, players, coaches, referees and fans all doing their part to help out. 

At a time when the first set of support started to reach the affected families, the Turkish Basketball Solidarity and Education Foundation (BIDEV) quickly started to plan for a long-term solution for the thousands of people that were suddenly left without a home, all while receiving immediate support from Euroleague Basketball, together with its clubs, partners and associations. BIDEV’s "Basketball Village" project seeks to support those who have lost their homes due to the earthquake by installing 100 equipped containers in an area of 11,397 square meters. Inside these containers, there is basic living furniture and the necessary day-to-day utilities, such as a toilet, gas, water and internet. The "Basketball Village" will also accommodate specific social spaces for education, health care and sport, including one basketball court, which should be fully functional and ready for the arrival of the first families during April.

This initiative is taking place in the district of Belen in the province of Hatay, which was one of the most affected areas following the multiple earthquakes that hit Türkiye and Syria on February 6, 2023. These earthquakes claimed over 50,000 lives and left tens of thousands of people without homes.

Mr. Hasan Arat, BIDEV’s Chairman and Founding Member, said: “BIDEV started a new project with Polimeks Holding’s Chair, Erol Tabanca, one of the founding members of our Board of Trustees, TBF and TUBAD to build “Basketball Village” in the province of Hatay, specifically the district of Belen, with the aim of meeting the essential needs of shelter and hygiene for those affected by the earthquake which caused widespread destruction in 11 cities in the south-eastern part of Türkiye. The "Basketball Village" in Belen, Hatay will contribute towards overcoming the challenges faced in the acute period following the earthquake. After the construction of the "Basketball Village" and the fulfillment of basic needs, BIDEV will keep helping children and adolescents overcome their difficulties and heal through basketball training and some educative activities. The 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season Round 14 game Frutti Extra Bursaspor vs. Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse, which was scheduled to be played on February 8, and the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 24 games Anadolu Efes Istanbul vs. Real Madrid and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul vs. EA7 Emporio Armani Exchange Milan, which were scheduled to be played on February 9 and 10, respectively, have been suspended following the Turkish government's cancellation of all sports competitions until further notice due to the earthquakes that struck the country on Monday.

Euroleague Basketball games in Turkey suspended

Euroleague Basketball and Fan Code,India’s premier sports streaming platform, have reached an agreement that will bring Europe's top club basketball competition, the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, to FanCode. 

All fans in India will have the chance to watch select EuroLeague games, starting with the current 2022-23 season and continuing through the 2024-25 season. FanCode was launched in 2019 and has grown exponentially with over 50 million users. Earlier this season, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade and its partners adidas and Authena, made it possible for their fans to become among the first in the sports world to own unique NFTs associated with the original jerseys of the club they love. Crvena Zvezda is the first basketball club in the world that will allow its fans to collect authentic, phygital jerseys of their favorite players. 

The jerseys that the players have been wearing this season, starting from the Round 2 game against Panathinaikos Athens, have a "digital twin" in the form of an NFT. These NFTs will be available as part of a unique Crvena Zvezda digital collection. 

Thirty-two jerseys - one for each member of the roster in home and away colors - were prepared with NFC tags. Those authentic jerseys will be auctioned after they are worn for the final time, in the Round 16 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game at home against FC Barcelona. The auction process will be operated through the OpenSea platform and those interested will be able to purchase them with cryptocurrency.

The winners of the auction will be invited to the Round 18 EuroLeague game against Real Madrid on January 10, 2023, where they will have VIP seats and a special meet-and-greet where Zvezda players will hand over the authentic, signed jerseys. In addition to the possibility of reselling later, they will receive other benefits including access to exclusive video and photo materials from the club, an invitation to the club's New Year's cocktail party and more.

Going phygital, blending the digital experiences with the physical ones, the club will bring the digital world closer to the growing population of its fans, both inside and outside Serbia.

For years, we have been trying to ensure that our fans get much more from the club than just a sense of belonging. We improved their experience in the hall, but also outside of it. Now we want to take full advantage of the Web3 technology revolution and provide our fans with added value, unseen until now in the sports world.
