Euroleague Basketball’s junior tournament is more global than ever

ANGT Qualifiers 2024 to feature 28 teams from 11 countries

Euroleague Basketball is delighted to announce the 28 teams that will compete in the 2023-24 Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament. This season will be the 21st edition of the annual event, which includes clubs and academies representing 11 different countries. Under-18 teams are coming from 15 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and eight BKT EuroCup clubs, as well as five invited clubs and the Next Generation Team. They will clash to be the last one standing when the continental junior club champion is crowned in the spring in a finals phase to be held in parallel with the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four.

To reach the ANGT Finals, teams will first compete in [three-day qualifiers held in Podgorica, Montenegro; Belgrade, Serbia; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Paris, France](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/paris-dubai-and-podgorica-join-belgrade-as-angt-qualifier-hosts/). Each qualifier will have eight teams, with the winner earning an automatic berth to the ANGT Finals. Each will also feature Next Generation Teams organized by adidas from the top 18-and-under talents in Europe whose club teams are not already playing in one of the four qualifying tournaments. 

The first qualifier – in Podgorica, Montenegro, from January 26 to 28, 2024 – will feature the U18 teams of host SC Derby Podgorica, ALBA Berlin, Cholet Basket, 2019, 2021 and 2023 ANGT champion Real Madrid, FC Bayern Munich, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, Umana Reyer Venice and the NGT Podgorica team. 

The second qualifier – in Belgrade, Serbia, from March 1 to 3, 2024 – includes hosts Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, Partizan Belgrade and 2022 champion Mega MIS Belgrade, in addition to Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, 2016 champion FC Barcelona, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and the NGT Belgrade team.

The third qualifier will see the ANGT tournament head to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the first time from March 22 to 24, 2024. The host team is Dubai Basketball Academy, with the other clubs being: 2003 and 2007 champion Zalgiris Kaunas, Aris Midea Thessaloniki, ratiopharm Ulm, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, Valencia Basket, Virtus Segafredo Bologna and the NGT Dubai team.

The fourth and final qualifying tournament takes place in Paris, France, from March 29 to March 31. Besides local clubs Paris Basketball and Pole France INSEP Paris, the tournament will include U18 representatives from 2013 champion Joventut Badalona, Olympiacos Piraeus, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, Dreamland Gran Canaria, AS Monaco and the NGT Paris team.

Paris, Dubai and Podgorica join Belgrade as ANGT qualifier hosts!

The Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament is pleased to announce its schedule of qualifiers for 2024, which brings the world-class showcase for elite young basketball talents to three exciting new host cities: Paris, France; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Podgorica, Montenegro. The fourth qualifier will be in Belgrade, marking the 16th consecutive season that the Serbian capital welcomes the tournament.

The format stays the same, with the winner of each ANGT Qualifying Tournament advancing to compete for the continental junior club crown at the 2024 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in Berlin, Germany.

At each qualifying stop, a new Next Generation Team made up of young stars from clubs not affiliated with other ANGT clubs will be among the eight participants, ensuring that a full range of the continent’s best talent will be represented in the tournament. Former EuroLeague star Petteri Koponen will resume his role from last season as head coach for all four of the Next Generation Teams, sharing his wealth of experience with the players. This season, the Next Generation Select Team will not participate in the eight-team ANGT Finals. Its spot will be filled by a different team through a wild card.

The first qualifying event this season will take place from January 26 to 28 in Podgorica, with SC Derby serving as the host club. This marks the debut of the ANGT qualifiers to the Montenegrin capital. Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade will host the second tournament in its home city from March 1 to 3. Having hosted a qualifying round since the introduction of that phase in the 2008-09 season, Belgrade continues its legacy as a showcase city for rising stars.

A first-time ANGT qualifier outside continental Europe will come to Dubai from March 22 to 24, with local squad Dubai Basketball Academy as the event host. The tournament will be played at Coca Cola Arena in Dubai, with a capacity for 17,000 spectators. The fourth and final qualifier will run from March 29 to 31 in Paris, to be hosted by SKWEEK with coordinated support from adidas and Paris Basketball. The ANGT returns to the French capital for the first time since hosting the 2010 Finals. The qualifier will be played at the new adidas Arena in Paris.

This season marks the 22nd edition of the ANGT. The competition has seen a who's who of basketball stars come through its ranks, including future EuroLeague and NBA stars such as Goga Bitadze, Omri Casspi, Luigi Datome, Luca Doncic, Vasilije Micic, Nikola Mirotic, Donatas Motiejunas, Dario Saric, Milos Teodosic, Domantas Sabonis, Kristaps Porzingis, Jonas Valanciunas and Victor Wembanyama, among others.

The adidas Eurocamp, which brings together some of the top basketball prospects around the world for a three-day event, opens today in Treviso, Italy. After a six-year hiatus, the camp returns to La Ghirada Sports Complex for its 16th edition.

The adidas Eurocamp, which brings together some of the top basketball prospects around the world for a three-day event, opens today in Treviso, Italy. After a six-year hiatus, the camp returns to La Ghirada Sports Complex for its 16th edition.

The event is traditionally a showcase for players seeking to impress, among others, NBA personnel ahead of the NBA Draft and scouts from Euroleague Basketball teams. It will feature six teams with players in the 18-22 age group. Among them will be a USA Select team made up of top American prospects, Team Asia with the best young talent from that continent, two Eurocamp select teams, as adidas 3SSB select team and for the first time, the adidas Next Gen Team.

The Next Gen Team is comprised of top 18-and-under European talents who took part in one of the four Euroleague Basketball adidas Next Generation Tournament qualifying events and/or the U18 Next Generation Select Team at the ANGT Finals last month at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in Kaunas, Lithuania.

The Eurocamp offers the players the chance to work out and play under professional coaches from both sides of the Atlantic, including Next Gen Team head coach Petteri Koponen, and to showcase their skills in front of a wide audience of evaluators. Past editions of the Eurocamp have featured a host of future stars, including All-EuroLeague selections Mathias Lessort and Dzanan Musa and NBA All-Stars Bam Adebayo and Jaylen Brown. A total 41 players who appeared in the NBA last season and 71 from Euroleague Basketball competitions took part in the Eurocamp.

"Winning the most important tournament - the hardest one - with this team, I have the privilege of playing with those guys and that staff. It’s amazing. I have no words," said Vide, who was named ANGT Finals Most Valuable Player.

For the tournament, the Slovenian guard averaged 21.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals for an average PIR of 21.3.

"It feels amazing. We knew that our season was good except for losing the domestic (U18) championship. We showed everyone how good we are. When things go bad we stay together, and we demonstrated that on the court and in the end, we won. And we own the ring now," Vide said.

After winning the U18 continental championship in 2019 and 2021, Real came up short last season, losing to U18 Mega MIS Belgrade in the group stage of the ANGT Finals in Belgrade to miss out on the title bout - which gave returnees Vide, Ismaila Diagne and Abel Delicado extra motivation for this season.

"Last year was a little harder for us. We had some bad luck. This year we had a great team, a great coaching staff. It was just more motivation to get to the final and get another ring," Vide said.

It was actually Vide's second ANGT championship ring as he played for Real on its title-winning team in 2021. The guard from Ljubljana played just 8:19 minutes and did not score in Real’s 81-78 overtime victory over U18 FC Barcelona.

"This time is much more emotional for me because it’s my last year here so I had a bigger role," said Vide, who was also wearing his ring from 2021 after the ANGT Championship Game in Kaunas. "It's my last year with the junior team. I was getting emotional. I really wanted to win because at the start of the season we were talking about this moment."

Vide was the only member of Real’s starting five who was born in 2005, meaning the other four players - Hugo Gonzalez, Egor Demin, Diagne and Mitar Bosnjakovic could all be back next season to help Real defend the ANGT title.

"If they don't win it next year, I don’t know what’s going to happen," Vide said with a little smile. "Yeah, that is a little pressure."

But that group will also have the same motivation Vide had this season.

Real Madrid has captured the 2023 ANGT title by defeating Next Generation Select Team and thereby becoming the first club in history with four U18 continental championships. Real saw its 16-2 early lead go to waste but its balanced attack prevailed in the end along with a tough defensive effort. In the end, Real added the crown to its trophies from 2015, 2019 and 2021.

Vide scored a game-high 19 points to go with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals for an index rating of 25 in Real’s 71-60 win over U18 Next Generation Select Team in the ANGT Championship Game. It was the second time Vide won the ANGT trophy after 2021. For the tournament, the Slovenian guard averaged 21.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals for an average PIR of 21.3. 

Joining Vide on the All-Tournament Team were Mouhamed Faye from NGS Team, U18 FC Barcelona’s Kasparas Jakucionis, Nikola Topic of U18 Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and Bogoljub Markovic of U18 Mega MIS Belgrade. 

Faye was limited to 10 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block for a PIR of 3 in the ANGT Championship Game. The Senegalese big man was dominant in the tournament though, averaging 19.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks for an average PIR of 28.0. 

Jakucionis was extra motivated coming back to his home country Lithuania and he averaged 17.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.3 steals for an average index rating of 20.3. Topic was outstanding in three games with 30.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 9.7 fouls drawn for a PIR of 39.3. And Markovic collected 16.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks for a PIR of 22.7.

U18 Real Madrid v U18 Next Generation Select Team (2023-05-21T09:30:00.000Z)

The group stage of the 2023 Adidas EuroLeague Next Generation Tournament Finals has now come to a close and the two undefeated teams, U18 Next Generation Select Team and U18 Real Madrid, are set to battle for the junior crown in the ANGT Championship Game on Sunday.

Real was the first to book its ticket for Sunday's title game, following [its 72-54 triumph](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/ngt/game-center/2022-23-kaunas-finals/u18-real-madrid-u18-fc-barcelona/JTF22/10/) against FC Barcelona on Saturday morning in the last game of Group A. This will be Los Blancos' sixth title bout since 2014, as they look to add to their three ANGT titles (2015, 2019 and 2021). Jan Vide has averaged 22.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in Kaunas for Real, which has allowed just 66.6 points per game.

NGS Team clinched its place in Sunday's game by holding off the host team, U18 Zalgiris Kaunas, [73-62 in the final game](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/ngt/game-center/2022-23-kaunas-finals/u18-next-generation-select-team-u18-zalgiris-kaunas/JTF22/12/) of Saturday's program. Mouhamed Faye shined in the deciding game with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals and a PIR of 52. Faye has been the team's top performer at Kaunas Sports Hall over the past three days, posting 23.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. This will be the second straight time that NGS Team plays in the title bout, having lost to U18 Mega MIS Belgrade last season.

The championship game is set for 12:30 local time (11:30 CEST) on Sunday at Kaunas Sports Hall, and [it will be streamed live for free](https://app.skweek.tv/home) on the live streaming and VOD platform SKWEEK, just like all the other ANGT Finals games in Kaunas.
