### Lietuvos Rytas is the new champion of the Nike International Junior Tournament

In the 10th edition of the tournament Rytas won its first title after losing the final of 2009 to INSEP. Edvinas Seskus had 17 points for the new champs, Augustinas Jankaitis added 15, Tautvydas Jodelis finished with 12 and Alvydas Zarskus collected 11. James Birsen led the runner-ups with 20 points, Umar Atin finished with 13 and Mehmet Sanli collected 11 points with 14 rebounds. One player that made it to the record books of the NIJT is Jokubas Gintvainis of Rytas won dished 10 assists and by that tied the record for most assists in an NIJT final round tournament set by FMP's Nenad Miljenovic in 2009 against Lietovus Rytas.

In its first ever appearance in the tournament, Zagreb won all 4 games and celebrated a new high point for the Croatian club. Beyond any doubt the main reason behind its victory was youngster Dario Saric, who turned 17 only last month but showed that he can handle older players, to say the least. Saric had a stellar tournament and topped it off with an unprecedented triple-double in the title game. He posted 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists today, the last assist the most spectacular of all since it decided the game in the last minute. Saric also reached double-digits in drawn fouls with 10. This is only the second triple-double ever in the history of the NIJT final round, and the first ever in the title game. Mario Hezonja had 19 points as well, Dominik Mavra added 16 and Filip Knezevic scored 10. Arturas Gudaitis scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Zalgiris while Kaspars Vecvagars added 13.

Hezonja triggered Zagreb's first run with a big dunk and another jumper, enough for a 50-42 gap, and Saric scored the last points of the quarter to set the first double-digit lead of the game, 53-43. Ignas Ramasauskas came on in the 4th with 4 points in a row and Vecvagars scored from the arc to make it just a 2 point game, with Saric out to recover from an injury. But the Croatian prospect jumped back on the floor and took over once again. A big kick out to Antonio Kraljic resulted in a three pointer that pushed the gap back up to 7, and with another drive Saric added a point to the margin, 66-57. Vecvagars didn't give up and with 5 points in a row cut it back to 5, but Saric drew the 10th foul, added a pair from the line and gave a huge assist to Knezevic who scored on the following play, restoring a 10-point lead inside the last minute, 72-62, to the joy of teammates, who celebrated with fists pumped in the air.

Dario Saric of KK Zagreb led his team to the trophy of the 2011 NIKE International Junior Tournament with a 76-65 victory over Zalgiris Kaunas on Sunday morning in Barcelona, Spain. Saric was crowed as the MVP of the tournament as he wrote a triple double in the title game with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in addition to 10 drawn fouls. In the entire 4 games he averaged 20.3 ppg, 12.3 apg and 6.3 apg to reach an index rating of 29.3. This was the first appearance of Zagreb in the final tournament while Zalgiris, who holds the most appearances, will settle for the second spot. The All-Tournemant team, apart from Saric was formed by Guo Ailun of Team China, Mario Hezonja of KK Zagreb, Stefan Popovski-Turanjan of FMP and Ignas Ramasauskas of Zalgiris.

## INSEP is the 2010 Nike International Junior Tournament champion!

The 2010 edition of the Nike International Junior Tournament presents a new champion on the list as INSEP won the title game against FMP with an 83-73 victory on the main court of the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy on Sunday afternoon in Paris, France. This is the first participation of INSEP, the French academy for sports, in the competition, and it finished with class on the top spot of the podium. FMP participated in the final game for the 4th time in a row, but will have to settle for the 2nd spot after winning the title back to back in 2008 and 2009. INSEP revenged FMP for the an earlier loss this season in the final game of the Belgrade Nike International Junior Tournament, one of the 4 qualifying games held to set the participating teams in the Final Four event. The winners took over the game late in the first half, and didn't allow FMP to take the lead back throughout the entire 2nd half. FMP, who reached the title game after winning its last two games on the buzzer, didn't perform as good as before and hit only 2 three pointers in 16 attempts to damage its chances to win. Hugo Invernizzi was the top scorer for the new champs with 16 points followed by Livio Jean-Charles and Ulysse Adjagba with 15 points each, while William Howard scored 10. Nenad Miljenovic topped FMP's scoresheet with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Nemanja Bezbradica added 15 and Nikola Jankovic summed his debut performance with 12 points.

Howard started the 2nd quarter with a great drive, but FMP went inside and scored from close range to cut the margin back to 2. Invernizzi hit his 2nd three pointer but saw Bezbradica show his dominance in the paint at the other side of the court and give his team a 30-26 lead after 16 minutes. INSEP continued to put big pressure on Miljenovic and managed to halt the Serbian offense, to create another run. Jean-Charles scored from close range, Benjamin John hit a corner three pointer and Invernizzi showed he can score also on the drive with two lay ups, to write a 10-0 run and hold a 36-30 lead. Right before the break FMP managed to create points when Pavlovic finished a fast break with a dunk and sent the teams to the half time stoppage divided by 4 points, 36-32.

Adjagba tipped off the 2nd half with 6 quick points, and reactivated the 10 point gap, but Jankovic displayed his strong body and inside game to score the next 6 points of FMP and make it 46-41 after 24 minutes. Howard and Jean-Charles scored to keep INSEP above but right before the third buzzer Miljenovic picked up his game. He scored on the drive, added a post-up basket and cut the difference to 53-50. Right before the buzzer he wrote a big block on John, but it took more than that to silence INSEP. Keita and Adjagba drove to the rim to sample what is about to come. Invernizzi added another great shot from the arc, followed with a great assist to a Jean-Charles dunk and when Keita finished a fast break with a big slam INSEP held a 70-58 lead with only 5 minutes to play. FMP needed quick answers and Bezbradica created points to cut the margin to 8, but Jean-Charles dished a great assist to an Invernizzi three pointer and Yannis Morin dunked to maintain the gap on 10, 75-65 this time inside the last 3 minutes. Musli was too strong and fluid to be stopped underneath. Miljenovic, whose body was less developed than many of his 18-year-old counterparts, displayed a basketball IQ beyond his years, putting the ball where his teammates needed to create opportunities. The only way to stop him was to foul him – and he finished the game with 9 fouls drawn. Both Musli and Miljenovic exited the floor to ovations from the Serbian cheering section, which included the Hemofarm Stada junior team, in the final minute of the game. FMP won as well both qualifying tournaments and proved to be the best junior club in Europe in 2008. Three great prospects shinned for FMP throughout the entire tournament - guard Aleksander Milutinovic, center Dejan Musli and power forward Bojan Subotic, and all three were behind the win in the title game. FMP dominated the game from the start and took a 10 point lead early in the first quarter, which maintained until the final buzzer despite AXA's constant fight to stay in the game and threat the lead. Musli was the top scorer with 25 points and 14 rebounds, Subotic wrote down 21 points with eight boards while Milutinovic added 18 with eight rebounds as well. Nihad Dedovic led AXA with 29 points and 11 rebounds, Daniel Perez scored 15 in addition to six assists and Papa Abdoulaye had 11.

After AXA held the primary 0-2 lead Milutinovic finished in an explosive dunk and started a 16-4 run on AXA's account. Subotic and Musli dominated the game with Subotic feeding his team-mate or finishing by himself while AXA worked hard in every possession. Aleksander Ponjavic with an acrobatic basket and the bonus from the line set the final score of the first quarter, 26-14. Dedovic drew a lot of attention from FMP's defense but still found the space to draw fouls and hit 11 early points, but FMP's team- game and low shooting percentage by AXA kept the margin stable. Both teams struggled from long range connecting only one out of 14 from long range in the first 15 minutes, and AXA suffered more from than. Perez with a big assist to Dedovic followed by an unsportsmanlike foul he drew on a steal made it just a six point game, but Milutinovic and Musli dunked FMP back to hold a 41-31 lead at half time. Perez was in a zone starting the second half, and along with Abdoulaye brought AXA just four points behind. Milutinovic, Subotic and Musli quickly replied as the margin extended to 12.
