U18 Real Madrid booked its spot in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Ljubljana first place game by defeating U18 Basket Brno 61-92 for a 2-0 record in Group B. The defending continental champion pulled away with a 0-15 run in the second quarter while also out-rebounding Brno 62 to 34. Eli Ndiaye collected 17 points and 11 rebounds, Urban Klavzar scored 17 points, Baba Miller had 16 points and Henri Veesaar chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Martin Studnicky totalled 17 points and 7 rebounds to lead Brno, which dropped to 1-1 in the group. Jakub Necas added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.
Real books spot in ANGT Ljubljana first place game
Simon Svoboda opened the scoring for Brno with a three-pointer, but the Czech team failed to score for 4 minutes - though Real could only pull ahead 3-6. Studnicky knotted the game with a three-pointer, but Brno went nearly 5 minutes without a point and Veesaar had four points to pull ahead 6-14. And Nikolas Cebrian’s three-pointer made it 8-17 after 10 minutes. Brno started strong in the second quarter with a Jan Polivka three-pointer and four points from Lukas Olbort to trim the gap to 15-19. And Joanis Koulisianis’ three-pointer had the Czech side within 20-24. Real started to pull away though with 15 straight points for a 20-39 lead, and Klavzar’s three-pointer made it 24-46. Brno trailed 26-48 at the break.
Real pushed the lead to 26-52 to start the third quarter. Brno worked to at least take the third quarter as Necas and Studnicky both scored four points and Josef Svoboda hit a three-pointer to make it 40-56. Necas and Studnicky both scored and it was 44-59. Real tallied the next five points but Necas knocked down a three-pointer and Brno out-scored Real 23-18 in the third quarter to trail 49-66 after 30 minutes. A Necas three-pointer made it 54-70 early in the fourth quarter, but Real ended any doubts with a 2-10 surge to lead 56-80.
