About the program:

ALBA Berlin’s One Team program aims to support socially disadvantaged children and young teenagers in a socio-economically challenging area of Berlin. The program is embedded in ALBA’s nationwide SPORT VERNETZT initiative, which focuses on providing disadvantaged children with the chance to play different sports and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. By bringing professional coaches to schools or kindergarten and connecting the educational institutions with local political and business stakeholders, the project seeks to bring children together and help kids develop an excitement for physical activities. The One Team program is run with Lisa Tetzner Schule, an elementary school in the Berlin district of Gropiusstadt, where the majority of school children come from migrant backgrounds; many of these kids face difficulties within their families and with social situations. In Gropiusstadt, ALBA gets more than 1,500 children moving on a weekly basis. At Lisa Tetzner elementary school, a group of 20 boys and girls meet twice a week with a One Team coach and an ALBA Berlin social worker, as they use basketball sessions as a tool to focus on teamwork, integration, motivation, communication and tolerance.
