The Euroleague Basketball Officiating Department has selected the eight referees who will officiate at the 2025 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four, which will take place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, from May 23 to 25.

The officiating crew for the season’s biggest stage includes a distinguished mix of seasoned veterans and first-time Final Four officials. They are Ilija Belosevic, Mehdi Difallah, Robert Lottermoser, Carlos Peruga, Milan Nedovic, Carmelo Paternico, Emilio Perez Pizarro, and Arturas Sukys.

The selection reflects Euroleague Basketball’s ongoing commitment to excellence in officiating at the highest levels of the sport. The group combines over 120 years of EuroLeague experience and includes four officials making their Final Four debuts, reinforcing the league’s efforts to both honor its most trusted referees and elevate new elite talent.

Belosevic and Difallah were both on the crew that worked the 2024 championship game in Berlin. Alongside Belosevic, who will oversee his 10th Final Four, and Lottermoser, for whom this will be his ninth trip to European basketball's showpiece event, are Final Four newcomers Nedovic, Paternico, Perez Pizarro and Sukys.

"Officiating at the Final Four requires the same level of excellence, preparation, and poise demanded of the players and coaches,” said Daniel Hierrezuelo, Euroleague Basketball’s Director of Officiating. “This year’s group includes some of the most respected officials in European basketball, as well as several referees who have earned this opportunity through years of consistent performance. I am confident they will help deliver a fair, balanced, and professionally managed event in Abu Dhabi."

The 2025 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four will begin on Friday, May 23, with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul vs. Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, followed by Olympiacos Piraeus vs. AS Monaco. The third-place game and championship game will be played on Sunday, May 25.

When two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague legends join forces, great things may occur on the floor and that’s precisely what the connection between [Vassilis Spanoulis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/spanoulis-vassilis/?season=E2024) and [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) has offered us this season. Having broken Spanoulis’s record by becoming the competition’s [all-time leading scorer](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/mike-james-becomes-the-euroleague-all-time-leading-scorer/) last season, James saw his former opponent take up the reins of AS Monaco back in November.

The duo would lead their team to a fourth-place finish that secured them a home-court advantage, which proved to be crucial in a playoff series against an unyielding [FC Barcelona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fc-barcelona/roster/bar/?season=2024-25). Despite injuries to key players throughout the regular season and during the postseason, the Catalans bounced back from 2-0 down and sent the series to Game 5.

The pressure automatically shifted to Monaco, but when things get tough, the tough get going.

Having dropped [Georgios Papagiannis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/georgios-papagiannis/005844/) from the gameday roster in each of the four first duels against Barcelona, Spanoulis opted for his former teammate when it mattered most and the Monaco center delivered with a season-high 17 points.

Papagiannis’s pick-and-pop ability resulted in two huge triples in the fourth quarter, where the hosts struggled to maintain the lead. The encounter turned into an exchange of blows and when games become back-and-forth affairs, it’s always the clutch players who step up.

Unsurprisingly, Spanoulis trusted James to handle the vast majority of the possessions in the last 6 minutes and the fellow EuroLeague icon didn’t disappoint his head coach. A James bucket tied it at 74-74 before the Monaco guard connected with Papagiannis for an alley-oop slam that put their team in front.

[Kevin Punter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/kevin-punter/009862/) made 2 from the charity stripe with 1:23 left on the clock, but James came to the fore again, dribbling past [Tomas Satoransky](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tomas-satoransky/002939/) and netting a tough layup off the glass in front of [Jabari Parker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/jabari-parker/012745/) to clinch the victory and Final Four participation.

“I’m very proud of Mike,” Spanoulis said in the post-game press conference. “I’m very proud because we’ve had a lot of discussions, lots of talking. I’m always honest with him. I talk to him from my personal experience and this helps me a lot to give him what I think is the right advice. When I talk to him, it is like I talk to myself.”

Indeed, the bucket that James made in crunch time was reminiscent of the numerous baskets that Spanoulis had made throughout his career as a player in game-winning situations.

“I’ve been in a lot of situations,” James admitted in the post-game press conference. “I think that experience makes you comfortable. And experience gives you lessons and lets you be able to adapt quickly. I’ve been in a lot of game-winning situations, a lot of tight games at the end. We were in tight games last year and I wasn’t as aggressive as I needed to be and I didn’t like that feeling for injuries or whatever the case may be. So, this year, feeling good, I wanted to have the ball in my hands, be able to make the decision and be as aggressive as possible. Coach felt the same I guess, put the ball in my hands, trusted me to make smart decisions and it worked out.”

James finished the duel on a game-high 20 points and averaged 16.6 for the series. Most importantly, under Spanoulis, he has been sharing the ball better than ever, having recorded 6.4 assists in the five games against Barcelona. The synergy of two greats produced magic on the court.

“I also wanted to get \[to the Final Four\] for my coach because this is his first year coaching \[in the EuroLeague\],” James added. “I’ve played against him for a long time, known him for a long time. When you’ve got special relationships with people, you want to succeed for them as much as I want to succeed for my teammates. It feels special and kind of an irony that I got to go to the Final Four with somebody that I competed against, somebody that he’s historically great and somebody that I actually broke his record last year. I think it’s a poetic moment.”

The Game 5 victory over Barcelona has set up a rematch of the 2022-23 Final Four semifinal, in which Monaco will take on Olympiacos Piraeus in Abu Dhabi. In that game, James’s side hit the ground running and took a 29-41 lead into the second half. Yet, Olympiacos outscored Monaco 27-2 in the third quarter to clinch a spot in the championship game.

“Experience always makes you better,” James noted. “Everything you go through in life prepares you for the next step. Even last year’s playoffs is going to help us. This year’s playoff series is going to help us the way we fought and maybe we kind of rested that we had it won already. Also, playing the same team again, Olympiacos. It seems inevitable that we're always going to meet them no matter what happens. It’s almost like fate. We’ve got to take care of our business this time. I think last time we got happy and thought it was over, but they are a good team. They play hard for 40 minutes and we’ve got to do the same.”

Meanwhile, Spanoulis is aware that emotions will be running high when he meets the Reds in the semifinal. Yet, he also knows that from the moment his team takes to the floor, Olympiacos will be nothing but an opponent – a barrier to overcome on his way to glory. And taking into account the winning mentality that turned him into a basketball legend, Spanoulis will not hold back against his former team.

“When I go to the Final Four, I want to go and win it,” Spanoulis declared. “I don’t care if I go a lot of times. If I go to two \[Final Fours\], I want to win two. If I go to 10, I don’t want to lose 10, or win one. Everybody knows what Olympiacos means for me. This is my second home. I spent there half of my career or more. I got incredible love from the fans. I will have this always in my heart. But now I’m proud that I’m here with Monaco and I’ll give everything for 40 minutes to win.”

In a 75-67 series-clinching win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Osman posted a career-high 28 points on 4-of-8 two-point shooting, 4-of-7 on threes and 8-of-8 on free throws, as well as 8 rebounds, which tied his career-best mark, 1 steal and 7 fouls drawn for a PIR of 32, which is also a personal best. This is the first time that Osman has been the MVP of the Round in 135 EuroLeague appearances.

The next-best index rating belonged to FC Barcelona’s [Kevin Punter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/kevin-punter/009862/), who had a PIR of 23 in his team’s 85-84 defeat at AS Monaco. Punter finished with 19 points on 4-of-4 shooting on twos, 2-of-8 on triples and 5-of-5 on free throws, plus 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 fouls drawn.

Monaco center [Georgios Papagiannis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/georgios-papagiannis/005844/), who made his first appearance in the playoffs, led his side in index rating with a PIR of 21 PIR, having amassed 17 points by making 4 of 5 two-pointers and 3 of 3 triples along with 5 rebounds, 1 block and 3 fouls drawn.

Rounding out the list of top performers in Game 5 were Monaco’s [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) and Barcelona’s [Justin Anderson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/justin-anderson/012795/), each with PIRs of 19. James posted 20 points on 7-of-9 two-point shootings, 1-of-3 on threes and 3-of-4 on free throws, 1 rebound, 5 assists, 1 steal and 4 fouls drawn, while Anderson recorded 16 points, making 3 of 4 two-pointers, 3 of 5 triples and his lone free-throw attempt as well as 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 fouls drawn.

### Individual highs: Cedi Osman, Panathinaikos, 28 points

Panathinaikos’s Cedi Osman led all scorers in Game 5 with 28 points. [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) of Paris basketball goes down as the leading scorer in the playoffs with 21.3 points per game. Osman was seventh with 17.2.

[Juancho Hernangomez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/juancho-hernangomez/012712/) grabbed 11 rebounds, which were not only the most in Game 5, but made him the leader for the entire phase with a playoff average of 8.8 per game.

[Kostas Sloukas](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/kostas-sloukas/001926/) dished 8 assists, which led all Game 5 players and placed him fourth in the playoffs (5.0 apg.). Mike James was the playoff leader with 6.4 assists per game.

Four players – [Darius Thompson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/darius-thompson/011078/) and [Erkan Yilmaz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/erkan-yilmaz/006372/) of Efes, [Elie Okobo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/elie-okobo/011212/) of Monaco, and [Joel Parra](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/joel-parra/007464/) of Barcelona – had 3 steals each to lead the way in Game 5. Yilmaz raised his playoff average to 1.8 steals per game, which was second only to [Andres Feliz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/andres-feliz/011247/) of Real Madrid with 2.8.

With 2 blocked shots, Efes’s [Vincent Poirier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/vincent-poirier/004887/) had both the highest number in Game 5 and the most in the playoffs, 2.2 per game, with teammate [Dan Oturu](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dan-oturu/012788/) (1.6) second.

[Youssoupha Fall](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/youssoupha-fall/006568/) of Barcelona was the only player to record a double-double in Game 5, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Greek giant subdued its Turkish rival, 75-67, in a decisive Game 5 and their victory was akin to a Hollywood script as Efes was undone by its compatriots [Cedi Osman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/cedi-osman/004088/) and [Ergin Ataman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/panathinaikos-aktor-athens/pan/ataman-ergin/), who came back to haunt their former club.

Osman produced his best performance of the season as he racked up a career-high 28 points to go with 8 boards, delighting Coach Ataman, who guided Efes to successive EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022 before he took over the Greens in the summer of 2023.

Having won Europe’s premier club competition in his first season at Panathinaikos, Ataman will lead his troops to the 2025 showpiece event in Abu Dhabi confident of claiming his fourth title in five seasons after last year’s triumph in Berlin.

Osman, in turn, brought his wealth of NBA experience as he moved from the San Antonio Spurs to Panathinaikos during the last off-season after a seven-year stint overseas, saving his best for last to inflict a tough loss on his boyhood club where he started his illustrious career in 2011.

Barely holding back the tears in a post-game interview, Osman revealed just how much he was touched by the support of Panathinaikos fans who will be heading to Abu Dhabi in droves for the semifinal clash with Efes’s bitter domestic rivals [Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fenerbahce-beko-istanbul/ulk/) and a potential all-Greek final against eternal foes [Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/olympiacos-piraeus/oly/).    

“From the beginning of the season, we aimed to have home-court advantage, that was our goal. We brought the series back to Athens and although we could have finished the job in \[Game 4 in Istanbul\], it’s even sweeter when you qualify for the Final Four in front of your own fans. I am really proud of my guys and the way they did the job today,” Osman said.

“This team is full of great characters and we are back where we belong. Now we move on after getting some time to rest. The fans were amazing tonight and when I heard them chanting my name I was very emotional as I live for moments like this.”

Cedi Osman: 'When I heard them chant my name, I was emotional'

Ataman was all smiles and heaped praise on his former club after emotions had boiled over in Game 4, when the Turkish tactician walked out following a spat with the home Efes fans who jibed and taunted him in the closing stages of an 85-82 defeat which forced Game 5.

“I want to congratulate Efes as they pushed us to the limit. They played amazing defense throughout the series and they never gave up. Tonight we were up by 23 points but they came back into the game with some great hustle,” he said.

“We didn’t play good basketball tonight but Cedi Osman came up with his best performance of the season and congrats to him. We also played good defense on [Shane Larkin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shane-larkin/007200/) and we are back in the Final Four. Two games to the title, now is the moment to take some time off and enjoy.”

Efes head coach [Luca Banchi](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/teams/anadolu-efes-istanbul/ist/banchi-luca/?season=E2024) was able to walk off the court with his pride intact, although he rued what he saw as a missed opportunity to stage a major upset.

The Turkish team defied the odd to reach the playoffs on the back of eight successive wins in the regular season’s home straight and then matched Panathinaikos in every department of the opening four games of the series.

However, Banchi’s men fell short and looked devoid of energy when the chips were down, although they launched a valiant fightback after trailing by 23 points midway through the second quarter.

“Many regrets, as in a do-or-die game you have to be disciplined and inspired and this certainly wasn’t our best night,” the Italian tactician said. “Poor percentages from the field and the foul line, but the last 25 minutes showed that we have the mental consistency to be a team that deserves to stay on this level.”

Reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens advanced to the 2025 Final Four in Abu Dhabi after defeating Anadolu Efes Istanbul 75-67 to win their absorbing playoff series 3-2 and earn a shot at winning back-to-back titles.

Reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens advanced to the 2025 Final Four in Abu Dhabi after defeating Anadolu Efes Istanbul 75-67 to win their absorbing playoff series 3-2 and earn a shot at winning back-to-back titles.

An effervescent Cedi Osman paced Panathinaikos on 28 points and 8 boards, putting his boyhood club Efes to the sword after an epic clash. Jerian Grant racked up 11 points and 8 rebounds and the regular season’s MVP Kendrick Nunn added 12 points for the hosts despite another poor shooting night.

At the other end, Elijah Bryant netted 16 points and Shane Larkin chipped in with 12 for Efes, but both visiting guards struggled as they combined for 8 of 26 from the floor, with Panathinaikos prevailing in the battle of the boards 50-35.

Panathinaikos raced into an early 10-3 lead but Efes quickly pulled it back to 12-10, setting the stage for a tight contest. What happened next was beyond the home fans’ wildest dreams as the Greens went on a whirlwind 24-3 run to lead 36-13 midway through the second quarter, with Osman unstoppable.

Efes refused to roll over and replied with a 0-13 streak to claw its way back into the game, hitting several deep threes after going seven minutes without a field goal in the wake of the ironclad Panathinaikos defense.

The home team led 41-30 at halftime on the back of 17 points from Osman and 8 from Nunn, who scored all of his first-half points during a brief second quarter spell when he was able to find some breathing space.

Panathinaikos was unable to profit from a barrage of offensive boards as Nunn was held to 4 of 16 from the floor throughout and Kostas Sloukas went 0 of 5, with Efes closing the gap to 47-44 late in the third quarter as the home side’s offense came to a halt.

However, Konstantinos Mitoglou came up with a huge buzzer-beating three at the end of the period to carve out a 53-46 advantage for the Greens ahead of the final 10 minutes, with Efes forced to play catch-up in vain for the remainder of the contest.

Larkin finally made a couple of shots from downtown to give the visitors a glimmer of hope as they slashed the deficit 65-61, but their fightback was vanquished after Grant hit a big shot off the glass to make the score 69-61 in the home straight.

Efes still refused to lie down but there was neither enough time nor gas in the tank for the Turkish outfit to turn the matchup on its head, as jubilant Panathinaikos players, staff and fans kicked off wild celebrations after a well-deserved victory.

For the first four games of AS Monaco's playoff series against FC Barcelona, Georgios Papagiannis was in street clothes. But in Game 5, he dusted off his cape and came to his team's rescue.

For the first four games of [AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/as-monaco/mco/)'s playoff series against FC Barcelona, [Georgios Papagiannis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/georgios-papagiannis/005844/) was in street clothes. But in Game 5, he dusted off his cape and came to his team's rescue.

The 27-year-old last appeared in a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game back in Round 29, when he played for just 4 minutes against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, yet coach Vassilis Spanoulis decided that the time was right to name the Greek center on the 12-man roster. 

That said, Papagiannis had to remain patient. He didn't play a single second in the first quarter, but when he did come off the bench he didn't take long to make an impact. However, with Barcelona looking to mount a fourth-quarter comeback, Papagiannis really put his fingerprints on proceedings.

A back-and-forth affair saw the guests grab a 65-67 lead thanks to a 0-5 run early in the fourth quarter. Enter Papagiannis, who nailed a triple to put his team back in front. A three-point play by [Willy Hernangomez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/willy-hernangomez/003196/) gave the visitors a 72-74 edge, but [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) tied it up before setting up the Greek big, who slammed home an alley-oop dunk to put Monaco ahead.

In an exchange of blows, [Jabari Parker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/jabari-parker/012745/) responded with a big triple on the other end, but Papagiannis came to the fore once again by drilling another three and scoring inside for an 81-78 lead heading into crunch time.

“Georgios had a very good practice yesterday,” Spanoulis said in the post-game press conference. “It was instinct and my decision to bring him back. I saw yesterday in practice his pick-and-rolls and I thought that he could bring us something new. With the defense that Barcelona plays, I thought that quick dives and pick-and-pops can give us something but Georgios gave more than something today. He gave us a huge performance.”

Papagiannis scored half of Monaco’s 20 fourth-quarter points, when everything was at stake. He finished the game by going 3 for 3 on three-pointers and 4 for 5 from inside the arc. Papagiannis’s season-high 17 points were paired with 5 rebounds and 1 block in arguably his best performance this season for Monaco.

“I was staying ready during the whole series and before the series,” he told EuroLeague TV. “Everybody helped me out from the first until the last one and I was just waiting for my moment to come and it was today. I’m really happy that I’ve made it to my second Final Four in a row.”

James may have led the team on the floor, with Spanoulis’s tactics helping Monaco overcome Barcelona, but had it not been for Papagiannis, the hosts may have not managed to clinch their second Final Four participation in three years.

Most importantly, the Monaco boss will head into a tough semifinal matchup against his former team, Olympiacos Piraeus, knowing that in Papagiannis he has an extra weapon he can rely on – a weapon that has what it takes to step up off the bench when it matters most.
