Turk Telekom remained firmly on course to reach the playoffs with a hard-fought home win over Hamburg in Group B, improving to 9-6 while the German side dropped to 3-12. Anthony Brown paced Turk Telekom with 18 points and Yoan Makoundou added 16 to go with 6 boards. At the other end, Jordan Barnett netted 18 points and Kur Kuath registered a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Bourg avoided a slip-up in the fight for the playoffs with a dominant victory at Aris Midea Thessaloniki. Bourg gave up only 26 points in the first half to improve to 8-7, giving it two straight wins after a three-game losing skid. Brandon Paul poured in 19 points and Xavier Castaneda had 14 points to pace Bourg. Aris was eliminated from playoff contention as it fell to 3-12 on the season and 1-6 at home. D’Moi Hodge had 11 points as Aris’s leading scorer.

Buducnost outscored Hapoel 10-1 in the final minute to complete a comeback from a 13-point deficit to win at Moraca. The victory raised Buducnost’s record to 7-8 and put it in sixth place in Group A, while Hapoel fell to fourth place with a 9-6 record. Despite the loss, Hapoel clinched a ticket to the postseason. Rasheed Sulaimon paced the winners with 19 points and Alen Omic tallied 4 points and 9 rebounds and in doing so moved past Jamar Smith (1,396) and into fourth place on the EuroCup’s all-time scoring charts with 1,399 points. Bruno Caboclo paced the Hapoel attack with 16 points.

Bahcesehir came back from an 18-point deficit to beat Trefl, improve to 13-3 on the season and clinch first place in Group A with three games to go. Already-eliminated Trefl dropped 1-14. Trefl made 7 of its first 11 three-point attempts to open a 43-25 lead, but Bahcesehir halved the deficit before halftime and then erased the rest in the third quarter, before pulling out the win in the final minutes. Jaleen Smith paced the winners with 25 points and 9 rebounds and Tai Odiase scored 20 points in the victory. Nick Johnson netted 18 points for the hosts.

Cluj bounced back in style from last week's loss by pulling off a hard-fought win in Venice against Reyer. Despite being ahead for 29 minutes, Cluj saw Venice tie the game entering the last period but managed to hold on and punished its opponent with a 0-10 run late in the game after the home team came within 77-78. Zavier Simpson led all scorers with 25 points and also contributed 6 rebounds and 7 assists for a career-high PIR of 36. DJ Seeley followed with 16 points. Tyler Ennis paced Reyer with 19 points of which 15 came in the first half, and Mfiondu Kabengele recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards in the losing effort.

Joventut downed Gran Canaria on the road to continue its great run of play. Joventut took control of the game with a 0-13 third-quarter run for its third win in the last four games in the EuroCup. That takes its record to 6-9 in Group A. Joventut improved to 2-6 on the road as it collected its ninth victory in the last 10 games in the Spanish League and EuroCup combined. Kassius Robertson and Sam Dekker led the way with 13 points each. Gran Canaria has now lost three of its last four EuroCup games for a 10-5 record. John Shurna finished with 14 points in the loss.

Valencia became the first team to qualify to the EuroCup Quarterfinals after downing Lietkabelis 91-96 on the road. Valencia improved to 13-2 in Group B and locked at least second place at the end of the regular season, enough to skip the eighthfinals and play the single-game quarterfinals at La Fonteta. Lietkabelis dropped to 4-10 and could be mathematically out of the playoff race at the end of this round. Semi Ojeleye led the winners with 20 points. Jaime Pradilla, Chris Jones and Jean Montero each added 14, Xabi Lopez-Arostegui had 13 and Nate Reuvers got 11 for Valencia. Martynas Varnas led Lietkabelis with 19 points. Paulius Danusevicius added 14, Georgios Kalaitzakis 13, Djordje Gagic 11 and Dovis Bickauskis 10.

Besiktas picked up a massively important victory in the fight for the playoffs as it defeated Wolves 79-77 at home after a nightmare start to the second half. Besiktas survived going scoreless for more than 7 minutes in the third quarter and falling behind by 11 points to win down the stretch and snap a three-game losing streak for an 8-7 record. Jonah Mathews poured in 27 points for the hosts, Berk Ugurlu added 20 points and Kelan Martin and Dustin Sleva both chipped in 10 points. Wolves have now dropped five of the last seven games for a 7-8 record. The one good thing for the Lithuanian side is they still own the tiebreaker over Besiktas thanks to its 93-78 home win in Round 6. Anthony Cowan scored 22 points in the loss.

Brynton Lemar led the Cedevita attack with 17 points against his former team and Aleksej Nikolic added 16 – including 6 free throws down the stretch to help seal the win. Justin Smith and Jared Harper scored 16 each for Jerusalem, with the latter also dishing 8 assists.

Anthony Lamb led the way for Trento with 21 points and Jordan Ford picked up 20 points on a night when Trento’s veteran Toto Forray became the EuroCup’s all-time leader in games played with 145. In addition, Mario Machetti played the final 74 seconds at age 15 years, 9 months and 1 day to become the third-youngest player in EuroCup history. Ulm has lost back-to-back games after winning five straight games for a 9-6 record. Noa Essengue was Ulm’s top scorer with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Another key man in the victory was Arnas Butkevicius, who did a bit of everything with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Edgaras Ulanovas had his best scoring night of the season with 16 points, while Dovydas Giedraitis added 10 points. Virtus’s Isaia Cordinier netted 18 points and Toko Shengelia posted 12 points.

Napier and Booker nailed four triples each to finish the game on 17 points apiece. Mike James paced Monaco with 20 points, Jordan Loyd had 16, Matthew Strazel scored 14, Elie Okobo bagged 12 and Mam Jaiteh added 10.

Barcelona grabbed its third consecutive victory by downing Panathinaikos 82-73 at Palau Blaugrana in Round 21 on Wednesday. Barca improved to 12-9 in the standings while Panathinaikos dropped to 13-8 and saw its five-game winning streak come to an end. Jabari Parker paced the winners with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Dario Brizuela added 15 points while Alex Abrines had 12 for Barca, which also gained the potential head-to-head tie-break advantage against the Greens. Jerian Grant led Panathinaikos with 15 points, Cedi Osman added 14, Juancho Hernangomez tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds and Omer Yurtseven netted 11 points for the visitors.

This win ended Paris’s five-game losing streak. Efes, meanwhile, had Elijah Bryant net a game-high 21 points, Vincent Poirier get a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, Shane Larkin net 13 points, and Darius Thompson add 12 points, but it was not enough. The second event in the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague 2024-25 season tips off in Munich this weekend. 

The tournament features reigning continental champion [U18 Real Madrid](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-real-madrid/jrm/), host [U18 FC Bayern Munich](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-fc-bayern-munich/jmu/), [U18 Aris Midea Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-aris-midea-thessaloniki/jar/), [U18 Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-cedevita-olimpija-ljubljana/jlj/), [U18 Next Gen Team Munich](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-next-gen-team-munich/ngm/), [U18 SC Derby Podgorica](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-sc-derby-podgorica/jpg/), [U18 Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-valencia-basket/jva/) and [U18 Virtus Segafredo Bologna](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/teams/u18-virtus-segafredo-bologna/jvi/). 

They will play over three days at BMW Park in Munich from January 17 to 19 with the goal of reaching the NextGen EuroLeague Finals, which will be played at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four in May.

Here are some of the names to watch out for from the teams in Munich.

### Matteo Accorsi, U18 Virtus Segafredo Bologna 

[Matteo Accorsi](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/matteo-accorsi/013027/) is playing in his second NextGen tournament after he collected 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals at last season’s event in Dubai. 

The Bologna native has played the last two summers for Italy, winning silver at both the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2023 and FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024, averaging 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists on the global stage. 

This season he is producing 16 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in the Italian U19 championship. He is an excellent offensive player with a great three-point shot, but he has to improve defense and playmaking.

### Gildas Gimenez, U18 Real Madrid

[Gildas Gimenez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/gildas-gimenez/012804/) is a NextGen EuroLeague champion as he helped Real win the title last season, picking up 2.4 points and 1.9 rebounds over seven games in 2023-24. 

The small forward is also a continental champion at the national team level, having helped Spain win the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2023 crown with 14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.9 steals. And last summer he collected 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024. 

Gimenez made his Spanish League debut in November against Murcia and is averaging 9.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in the Spanish fourth division. He is a great athlete with great physical capabilities. He is a very good defender, both on the ball and in passing lanes and recovering. Gimenez can help in rebounding at both ends of the court. 

Offensively, he is a good one-on-one player who finishes with strength – also against contact – or can stop and hit jumpers. He also is a good three-point shooter after a pass. He can play multiple offensive positions and can defend both guard positions and the small forward spot. 

### Mark Morano Mahmutovic, U18 Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 

[Mark Morano Mahmutovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/mark-morano/012331/) will be competing in the NextGen for the third consecutive season. After averaging 7.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals in his debut season, he averaged 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his second campaign. 

In the Slovenian third and U20 leagues, he is averaging 17.2 and 22 points, respectively. Morano was a key member of the Slovenian U18 national team, which secured a third-place finish at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024, picking up 8.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals. 

Morano is a multi-level threat when catching the ball in the perimeter. With the height of 1.97m and fluid ball-handling ability, he is able to position himself well and is hard to contain by opposing defenders. His shooting ability, however, might be his biggest selling point, as he shows tremendous efficiency in tough shots off the dribble.

### Danilo Nikezic, U18 SC Derby Podgorica

[Danilo Nikezic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/danilo-nikezic/012877/) will be competing in his second NextGen tournament after picking up 4.2 points and 1.2 rebounds in Podgorica last season. The forward has appeared in four games in the Montenegro league with 2.0 points per game. 

He played two summers for Montenegro, averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024, Division B. Nikezic has a stable mentality and understands and knows the game, playing quite maturely. 

He is creative, solid on the ball, accepts advice and works on himself with individual dedication and is unselfish. He has improved his shooting mechanics but he still needs to work more on that and also becoming more decisive and aggressive defensively – especially on rebounds. 

### Vasileios Kazamias, U18 Aris Midea Thessaloniki

[Vasileios Kazamias](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/vasileios-kazamias/013043/) will make his second NextGen appearance with Aris as the 1.97-meter point guard averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals with 16.5 PIR in last year’s tournament in Dubai. Kazamias has also played five games in the BKT EuroCup and three times in the Greek League. 

This season with the U18 team he is averaging 14.8 points, 6 assists and 4.5 rebounds in three games, and he plays for APS Navarchos Votsis in the Greek fourth division where he tallies 17.4 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds. Kazamias participated in the Basketball Without Borders European camp. 

One of his biggest strengths is his great game understanding, which makes him ideal for handling the ball and setting up the team’s offense. Kazamias is also a fantastic one-on-one finisher and lockdown defender in one-on-one situations – besides being a great team defender, too. He has also improved this year his shooting after the dribble. His main weaknesses are the right-hand ball handling and spot up shooting – things that he is working on daily to improve. 

### Javier Viguer, U18 Valencia Basket

[Javier Viguer](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/ngt/players/javier-viguer/013527/) will participate for the first time in the NextGen. He starred for the Spanish team that finished second at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2024 with 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals. He is averaging 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in the fourth division. 

Viguer is a complete player on offense, contributing in every aspect, from shooting to rebounding. He stands out with his wingspan and long arms, allowing him to make shots that are difficult to block. On defense, he can guard both perimeter positions and can also hold his own inside thanks to his physical attributes. 

His versatility and basketball IQ make him a player to watch, capable of adapting to various roles and playing styles. His leadership on the court and ability to perform in clutch moments show his potential to make a strong impact at the next level.

### Nikolas Sermpezis, U18 FC Bayern Munich 

[Nikolas Sermpezis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/nikolas-sermpezis/012840/) collected 8.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.8 steals at last season’s NextGen Podgorica. The guard collected 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.1 steals for Greece at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2023. 

Sermpezis is one of the leaders of Bayern’s second team with 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.9 steals. Sermpezis is typical of many Greek guards: very aggressive on offense, attacking the basket. He is improving his shot as well. 

His main strength is the defense and his aggressiveness, which allowed him to have a very good impact last year in the third division. He still has to improve his ball handling and his decision-making.

### Guillermo del Pino, U18 Next Gen Team Munich

[Guillermo del Pino](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/guillermo-del-pino/013574/) will be playing his first NextGen tournament. The guard helped Spain win the title at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket 2023 with 14.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals to win the MVP trophy. 

Last summer he had 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. He is currently playing in Spain’s third division and collecting 8.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals for Coto Cordoba. 

The point guard has great three-level scoring skills and playmaking upside. He has a high basketball IQ, is tough as nails and can handle and pass the ball.

Gran Canaria’s smothering defense is paying dividends

There’s probably nothing better than a statement win on the road for a team to react and recover after hitting a couple of bumps.

For [Dreamland Gran Canaria](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/dreamland-gran-canaria/can/), that game [arrived at ratiopharm Ulm last week](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/strong-fourth-quarter-carries-gran-canaria-past-ulm-76-83/).

Against one of the hottest BKT EuroCup teams at that moment, which was in the middle of a four-game winning run, the Spanish side got a 76-83 road win to bounce back in style after two straight losses and improve to 10-4, retaining the advantageous second seed in Group A.

The way Gran Canaria achieved the result included several aspects that have been a trademark for the 2023 champions this season: tough defensive attitude, superior energy down the stretch and fighting mentality, all of them leading to a 16-0 run over seven minutes in the fourth period for the comeback victory.

“We wanted to control their transition defense because they are running and are very vertical to the basket,” said Gran Canaria coach [Jaka Lakovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/dreamland-gran-canaria/can/lakovic-jaka/). “We also wanted to protect the defensive rebounds and, for sure, make a good job defending on three-pointers.”

Ulm was held to 76 points after averaging 106.6 points over its three previous games. Once again, it was mainly the defense of Gran Canaria that showed the way, as has been the case several times this season.

The veteran [Forray became the BKT EuroCup’s all-time leader in games played](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/toto-forray-becomes-eurocup-career-leader-with-145th-appearance/) with 145 appearances in Trento’s 86-71 win at home. “I’m really grateful we got this win for Toto. It’s an amazing accomplish to play in this many EuroCup games. Ford was hot all game with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, which featured 4 three-pointers made for the home side. "It was a good win for us. We are still in a tough moment because we are missing players. We are overusing some players but it’s a great group. I’m happy because it’s a nice win after some tough losses. The victory snaps a three-game losing streak for Trento, which improved to 5-10 in Group A but is still two wins off sixth place, the final spot for the postseason.

Trento came into the game struggling to stop opposing offenses, ranking 17th in the opposing team’s PIR at 98.6 and last in the EuroCup in the opposing team’s three-point percentage at 39.7%.

Ulm was actually the second-best long-range shooting team at 38.0% coming into the game but converted just 7-of-29 three-point attempts for 24.1%. And the German side’s PIR was just 72.

“We had a lot of stretches where we played really good defense. We talked really well. Our bigs came in big protecting the rim. It showed growth and that is the area where we need to grow the most,” added Lamb.

Forray's historic night of longevity was joined by more history at the other end of the spectrum in the closing stages of the game. [Mario Machetti](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mario-machetti/013520/) was subbed into the game with 74 seconds to play to become the third-youngest player in EuroCup history at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 1 day. The only two players who were younger were Stefan Petkovic of Benetton Freibourg (15y 0m 10d on December 4, 2007) and Nikolaos Vasileiou of Promitheas Patras (15y 6m 4d on November 4, 2020).

Slotted right behind Machetti is a pretty famous name as the fourth-youngest player in EuroCup history is Victor Wembanyama, who was 15 years 9 months and 25 days when he played for Nanterre 92 on October 29, 2019.

Coach Galbiati also gave a pair of teenage brothers the chance to debut in the end as [Tobia Triggiani](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/tobia-triggiani/013521/) (born March 9, 2007) and [Vittorio Triggiani](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/vittorio-triggiani/013523/) (August 3, 2008) entered the game with 53 seconds remaining.

Tuesday's game in Bulgaria may prove to be a watershed moment in Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana's season as it climbed into second place in Group B with a 70-74 victory over Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem. The win came with a few key stats and teenage center Joan Beringer had his hands all over them.

Teenager Joan Beringer set the tone for Cedevita

The win came with a few key stats and teenage center [Joan Beringer](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/joan-beringer/012996/) had his hands all over them.

Cedevita dominated the paint in outrebounding Jerusalem 36-50. And it scored a whopping 19 second-chance points to just 3 for Jerusalem. The 50 rebounds were the third-most in club history and Cedevita's 16 offensive rebounds were a season high.

Beringer, who celebrated his 18th birthday just two months ago, led the charge with 5 offensive boards and 11 total rebounds, both of which marked career highs. He scored 8 points and posted a personal-best PIR of 18.

He set the tone from the very beginning with a put-back on the game’s opening possession. All told, he scored or assisted on 7 of Cedevita's second-chance points. This less than a year removed from competing at the [Adidas NextGen EuroLeague](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/) tournament.

This game was tailor-made for Beringer to leave his fingerprints, and he did not disappoint. Short-handed Jerusalem suited up just 10 players and used just nine. Since both [Austin Wiley](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/austin-wiley/013278/) and [Gabi Chachashvili](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/gabriel-chachashvili/013279/) are out injured, Jerusalem started a frontline of 2.01-meter [Justin Smith](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/justin-smith/013276/) and 1.98-meter [Chris Johnson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/chris-johnson/013277/), with its only natural center, [Derek Ogbeide](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/derek-ogbeide/013263/), coming off the bench. When Johnson fell into early foul trouble, that created even more problems and Beringer, who at 2.07 meters was often the tallest player on the floor, was there to take advantage.

Jerusalem head coach Yonatan Alon did not speak specifically about Beringer after the game, but he summed up his team’s weaknesses, which were exactly what the young big man exploited.

"We have won games before because of our offensive rebounding. Today we lost because of our defensive rebounding," Alon said in the post-game press conference.

"We are tired because we don’t have a full roster… We don’t have 12 players and the load is coming on the players and that is what you see at the end of the game. Good shots are not falling in, some decisions we need to make better. You don’t box out, you don’t focus enough. That is exactly the situation we are dealing with."

Beringer was, of course, one of many key figures in Cedevita’s win. [Brynton Lemar](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/brynton-lemar/013261/) scored 17 against his former team. [Aleksej Nikolic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/aleksej-nikolic/003703/) made 6 free throws in the final minute to help seal the win and finished with 16 points. And, after dealing with foul trouble for much of the game, [Devin Robinson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/devin-robinson/012042/) scored 12 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

For Robinson, "defense was the key."

"We knew they were going to bring energy tonight so we had to match their energy tonight," the Cedevita forward summed up after the game. 

And no player brought the energy quite like Beringer in his 19:25 minutes on the floor.  

The big man's activity helped wear Jerusalem down

Real Madrid and Maccabi Tel Aviv BC offered a scoring battle that will be forever remembered, combining for 229 points, a new all-time record for a game with no overtimes. 


Real Madrid, Maccabi made history in Round 21 

It is the most repeated game in European basketball history, and on Tuesday night it certainly didn't disappoint.

[Real Madrid](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/real-madrid/mad/) and [Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/maccabi-playtika-tel-aviv/tel/) faced each other for the 73rd time and made sure no one forgot this one, delivering one of the most intense showdowns in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history as both teams combined for 229 points, a new all-time record for a game with no overtimes. 

Fortitudo Bologna and Zalgiris Kaunas had the previous record for over 20 years, as both teams combined for 224 points when Fortitudo beat Zalgiris 117-107 on January 22, 2004. 

Tanoka Beard of Zalgiris Kaunas finished that game with a PIR of 63, still an all-time EuroLeague record. That same season, Fortitudo made it to the 2004 EuroLeague Championship Game and Zalgiris was one painful loss away from making it to the Final Four. Maccabi was on the winning side on both occasions.

There's more. Real and Maccabi combined for 120 points at halftime, and for 181 points after three quarters, shattering all previous records. The previous record for most points in a first half was shared by Ural Great Perm and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne with 116 points (59-57) on January 30, 2002. Fortitudo and Zalgiris combined for 175 points (90-85) in that game in Bologna back in 2004.

There were several club records, of course. Maccabi made all of its 26 free throws, a new club record and the fourth-best mark in EuroLeague history. Real holds the record with 34 free throws made, none missed, against Ural Great on March 27, 2002. The Israeli side's 63 first-half points tie a club record and is the highest scoring mark before the break in any road game.

He was the only player to miss a free throw in this game; in addition to Maccabi not missing any, Real went 24 of 25 from the foul line. 

There were some unexpected facts in such a high-scoring game. [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mario-hezonja/003108/) had 25 points but saw his 30-game streak of hitting at least one three-pointer come to an end, going 0 for 4 from downtown. [Walter Tavares](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/walter-tavares/005791/) did not shoot in this game, too. During his 257-game career, Tavares had not attempted a single field goal just four times before this game, but he'd always gone to the foul line at least twice. Not this time.

It was kind of ironic that arguably the most important play of the game was a defensive stop. With 27.5 seconds left and Real leading 114-113, *Los Blancos*' defense forced Maccabi to pick up a 24-second violation. Campazzo drew a foul, made free throws and after a timeout, [Levi Randolph](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/levi-randolph/013382/) missed a three-point shot by a long distance.

[Thomas Walkup](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/thomas-walkup/008855/) may have not traveled to Spain for [Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/olympiacos-piraeus/oly/)’s clash against [Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/baskonia-vitoria-gasteiz/bas/), but his void was filled by an extraordinary [Nigel Williams-Goss](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nigel-williams-goss/007982/), who stepped up big time at Buesa Arena on Tuesday night. The Olympiacos guard finished the game with a season-high 19 points, as well as career-highs of 8 assists and a PIR of 28.

Williams-Goss was aggressive on offense and provided his team with hustle on the other end. He recorded 2 steals and attacked the basket, drawing a season-high 9 fouls, going to the line 14 times and making 11 free throws, including an important one deep in overtime.

In fact, Williams-Goss scored 8 of Olympiacos’s 13 points in overtime, including a crucial bucket to give Olympiacos a 99-101 lead with 36 seconds left on the clock. The 30-year-old received the ball on Baskonia’s end and went all the way for a coast-to-coast layup in traffic to beat [Chima Moneke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/chima-moneke/012201/) in the paint. He had previously beaten the buzzer with a step-back midrange jumper to secure a morale-boosting 95-97 edge.

His heroics drew praise from his teammate, [Shaquielle McKissic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/shaquielle-mckissic/007853/), after the final buzzer.

“That was a hard-fought battle,” McKissic told EuroLeague TV. “Proud of these guys, especially Nigel. He stepped up tonight with the absence of Tom, but we are happy to get that one for the guys.”

[Tyler Dorsey](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tyler-dorsey/009849/) also missed out due to illness, but McKissic came to the fore with another mature outing. The veteran guard made a season-high 4 triples, going 8-for-11 from the field to match his season-high of 22 points – just 2 points shy of his best career tally.

Having opened the double-round week with a hard-fought victory at Baskonia, Olympiacos will make the trip south to the Spanish capital, where it will face [Real Madrid](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/real-madrid/roster/mad/?season=2024-25) on Thursday night. Walkup will not be available for that clash either, but Williams-Goss proved on Tuesday that he has what it takes to fill his void to carry the team on his shoulders.

Victorious for the first time in six games, Paris Basketball had the unheralded quartet of Leo Cavaliere, Maodo Lo, Yakuba Ouattara and Mikael Jantunen all step up at various points against Anadolu Efes.

Unheralded quartet stepped up as Paris rediscovered its winning touch

A lot can happen in 39 days.

Back on December 6, 2024, [Paris Basketball](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/paris-basketball/prs/) stunned Europe by going to SEF and beating Olympiacos Piraeus 90-96. That victory wasn’t just Paris’s 10th in a row, but it saw the side from the French capital go clear at the top of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings with an 11-3 record. [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) and co. were on top of the world – or so it felt.

Fast-forward to January 14, 2025, and [Tiago Splitter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/paris-basketball/prs/splitter-tiago/)’s Paris team entered Round 21 in a far different mood. Five successive defeats had seen some doubts start to surround the EuroLeague newcomer, with Paris falling to sixth spot and appearing to be in free fall, yet they bounced back in style with [a confidence-boosting 88-84 win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/paris-gets-back-on-track-with-team-oriented-win-over-efes-88-84/).

Shorts would typically be front and center of a win like this and while he did put up impressive numbers, he largely had his teammates to thank. At various points during the contest, different players came to the fore for the hosts.

Early on, [Leo Cavaliere](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/leopold-cavaliere/013373/) provided a boost from the bench with 5 first-quarter points, then [Maodo Lo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/maodo-lo/007032/) showed why he is the perfect foil for Shorts by coming in and keeping the machine ticking along. A little later, 7 third-quarter points by [Yakuba Ouattara](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/yakuba-ouattara/004197/) were a major plus, and [Mikael Jantunen](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mikael-jantunen/012613/) hit two huge triples after not making any for the last eight games, missing 24 three-point shots before finally seeing one fall.

“I haven’t made a lot of shots lately, but I’ve got my coach, my teammates, everybody trusting me,” Jantunen told EuroLeague TV afterward. “I know I’ve got to shoot the ball. At some point they’re going to go in. My teammates kept finding me and I kept shooting it. I knew I was going to make them at one point and yeah, made them in a good spot today. But it feels good. I’m just happy that we got the win, that’s all that matters. Good start to the double week.”

The important thing for Paris is that it rediscovered its winning touch after a tough 39 days in EuroLeague play. As Shorts alluded to in his postgame comments, they simply had to find a way to get the victory, particularly at home.

“Everybody knows we were in a rough stretch, but that’s part of basketball and we had to dig ourselves out of that hole,” Shorts said. “When you get home games in the EuroLeague, you’ve got to find a way to protect it. Today, we were able to do that, get the feeling of winning again and get back on track.”

Paris will be aiming to put those words into action on Thursday night, when it welcomes the 5-16 Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv to Adidas Arena.

The all-around dominance left visiting head coach [Zeljko Obradovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/obradovic-zeljko/?season=E2024), normally a hard customer to please, for once purring with delight as his men trampled ASVEL in all departments from start to finish.

“We played good basketball,” the winner of a record nine Turkish Airlines EuroLeague titles said in his postgame comments. “We had to forget that we were up by 11 at halftime in order to play hard in the third quarter, it was a joy watching my team’s defensive effort while we were very smart on offense. Up next is Milan and it’s never easy to play twice in 48 hours but it’s the same for both teams.”

Partizan faces [EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ea7-emporio-armani-milan/mil/), which is also in good form, in an effort to avenge another tough home loss, [81-88 in November](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/shorthanded-milan-roars-back-to-get-vital-road-win-over-partizan-81-88/), which came during a dreadful start to the season that saw the Serbian side lose eight of its opening 10 games.

Obradovic’s men have since clawed their way back into the postseason hunt by winning eight of their next 11, meaning that they need to keep up the good work if they are to avoid missing out on the business end of the competition for a second successive season. Lundberg, who sank 4 of 6 from downtown, made the point that Partizan clicked at just the right time as the Serbian outfit can ill-afford too many slip-ups in the final third of the regular season.

“I expected us to come out and produce a strong effort,” the Danish guard said. “We knew they would play with intensity but we are starting to find our groove and we’re taking it one game at a time. Considering the standings, the mindset has to be that every game is like a final for us and if we play our hearts out, hopefully we’ll win more than we lose down the stretch.”

Jones highlighted that an unselfish approach, which saw everyone except [Aleksej Pokusevski](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/aleksej-pokusevski/008232/) score on Partizan’s shorthanded roster, paid off with the visitors making light of the absence of several key players.

“We locked in and tried to play defense to execute the game plan,” said Jones, who had a large band of away fans in raptures with an array of spectacular slam dunks. “That’s how we’re supposed to play – move the ball, play for one another and take the best shots available,” he added.

ASVEL head coach [Pierric Poupet](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ldlc-asvel-villeurbanne/asv/poupet-pierric/?season=E2024) conceded his team looked flat throughout the lop-sided contest, with the home side’s top performer [Theo Maledon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/theo-maledon/007027/) blown away by Partizan’s aggressive defense which had the talented guard shoot 0 of 6 from the floor.

“Today, we just couldn’t do it,” he said.  “We lacked energy and couldn’t find points inside, hence our game became static. They were just better than us tonight, they hit tough shots and everything went their way. We now have to recover and move on to the next one.”

For the second game in a row, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan finished the game scoring in triple-digits, this time downing the visiting ALBA Berlin 100-68 to register its third straight win.

For the second game in a row, [EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ea7-emporio-armani-milan/mil/) finished the game scoring in triple-digits, this time rolling to [a 100-68 victory over the visiting ALBA Berlin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/milan-easies-past-alba-100-68/) to register its third straight win.

The other two wins in the winning streak came on the road, as this was Milan’s first home game of the calendar year and snapped a two-game losing streak in the fashion capital after back-to-back 1-point defeats against [Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/olympiacos-edges-milan-in-thriller-83-84/) and [FC Bayern Munich](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/bayern-grabs-long-awaited-road-win-at-milan-78-79/).

Even though ALBA was within 4 points at halftime, Milan did not leave anything to chance in this one, thanks to a big, 31-10 third quarter.

“I think we played a very, very good quarter defensively”, head coach Ettore Messina said in a EuroLeague TV post-game interview. “Offensively we were much sharper, no turnovers, good ball movement. But defense stepped up in the second half.”

During those 10 minutes, Milan held ALBA to 0-for-7 three-point shooting and limited the visitors to just 1 offensive rebound, after allowing 9 in the first two quarters. On offense, Milan shot 5 of 8 from three-point land and dished 7 assists, which turned a 47-43 halftime lead into a 78-53 margin going into the fourth quarter.

Milan’s usual suspects managed to produce despite limited minutes on the floor.

[Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/) scored 21 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting in 22 minutes, [Zach LeDay](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/zach-leday/008987/) netted 18 on 4-for-6 three-point shooting in 20 minutes, and [Shavon Shields](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/shavon-shields/007831/) had 16 points on 2-for-5 three-point shooting in 24 minutes.

But when asked about his team’s performance, Mirotic singled out one guy.

“Some guys played an amazing defense. [Stefano Tonut](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/stefano-tonut/006509/) was terrific. I think he made the difference tonight. With his energy, his physicality”, Mirotic said. 

“This is the team job. We need everybody. Everybody is playing better at this moment, and this is a way we are growing as a team because everyone is stepping up a little bit.”

What certainly is working, and has been playing all season long for Milan, is the duo of Mirotic and LeDay

“When you play with Zach LeDay, and those guys who open up your space who make you feel and play better on the court, it is always easier. It’s probably the best thing that has happened to me. We accomplish so much each day, not only playing, also in practice. It’s been amazing, I am very happy we are actually teammates”, Mirotic explained.
