The 2022 continental champion U18 Mega MIS Belgrade clinched a spot in the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Istanbul first place game with a tougher than expected 53-64 victory over host side U18 Bahcesehir College Istanbul. Mega could never put away the NextGen debutant and finally finished strong for a perfect 3-0 mark in Group A. After scoring 59 points combined in the first two games, Ognjen Srzentic was held to 14 points but did add 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Pavle Backo scored 13 points and Vid Krunic picked up 10 points for Mega. Bahcesehir could have won the group with a victory but ended up last with a 1-2 record - finishing behind U18 Panathinaikos Athens and U18 Umana Reyer Venice. Yavuz Kara was Bahcesehir’s top scorer with 13 points and Ahmet Aydin added 12 points. 

Bahcesehir led 4-2 in the early going as it played tough defense against the number one offense, and the lead was 7-6. Petar Ostojic answered with five points and Mega star Srzentic needed more than 6 minutes to finally score, but added two triples for a 10-18 lead. And Mega was up 14-20 after the first quarter. Bahcesehir trailed just 18-20 in the opening moments of the second quarter and then Backo scored six straight points for an 18-28 Mega cushion. Bahcesehir’s defense stood strong and allowed the team to stay within 24-30. Bahcesehir went more than 2 minutes without a point and fell behind 24-35, but went into the break down 26-35. 

The host side picked up the first four points of the second half and was only down 30-35. Mega finally started to get some points with Backo adding four more points and the gap was 30-41. Bahcesehir briefly got the deficit down to six points but trailed 39-48 after three quarters. Bahcesehir would not go away and Aydin’s three-pointer made it 45-48. Mega could not put away Bahcesehir and Pamir Suvari scored two baskets to trail just 51-54 with under 4 minutes to play. Backo hit a big three-pointer and Krunic converted a layup and Mega was back up 10 points - 51-61 - with under 2 minutes to play.

Harper led Jerusalem to a 77-94 road victory over Turk Telekom Ankara with a career-high 35 points on 8-of-12 two-pointers, 2-of-6 three-pointers and 13-of-13 free throws. He added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 9 fouls drawn for a PIR of 38, the highest in Round 9.

[Ante Tomic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/ante-tomic/002507/) of Joventut Badalona amassed a PIR of 29 in his team's 89-78 road loss against Bahcesehir College Istanbul. Tomic had 18 points on 6-of-6 two-pointers and 6-of-6 free throws, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 fouls drawn. Tavares was a dominant force in *El Clásico*, leading Real to a 90-97 double-overtime road victory over FC Barcelona with 24 points on 10-of-13 two-point shooting and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line. He added 18 rebounds, an assist, a steal, 2 blocks and 5 fouls drawn to amass a PIR of 39, the highest of all players in Round 12. Tavares claimed MVP of the Round honors for the seventh time in his career, and he is also the first Real player to be MVP of the Round in the 2024-25 campaign.

The second-best PIR, 38, belongs to [Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/) of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan after he led his team to an 85-91 win at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul with 29 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 7 drawn fouls. Tavares led all rebounders by pulling down 18 boards against Barcelona. Tavares is the league's top rebounder with 8.4 per game.

The biggest lead of the game was seven points and Reyer prevailed for a 1-2 record. Francesco Eramo collected 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

U18 Umana Reyer Venice secured its first victory of the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Istanbul by winning a back-and-forth battle against U18 Panathinaikos Athens 69-68 in Group A. The biggest lead of the game was seven points and Reyer prevailed for a 1-2 record. Francesco Eramo collected 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, Davide Marini scored 17 points and Edoardo Bonivento added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Panathinaikos is also 1-2 after the loss, wasting Christos Georgas tallying 20 points and 12 rebounds. Georgios-Angelos Tsakiris added 18 points, Iason Binis had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Evangelos Bousmpouras chipped in 2 points and 10 assists. 

Panathinaikos scored the first six points and led 2-8 and was still ahead 7-13. Reyer fought back and trailed just 13-14, and it was 13-15 after 10 minutes. Marini hit a three-pointer for Reyer’s first lead 18-17. The rest of the first half went back and forth with eight lead changes and the game was knotted 35-35 at the break. 

Binis scored 4 points as Panathinaikos opened the second half with the first seven points and led 35-42. Another Marini triple trimmed the deficit to 47-49, only to have Tsakiris hit a three-pointer at the other end to make it 51-57. Reyer cut it to 55-57 after three quarters. The game remained tight in the final frame and it was still tied 66-66 after Federico Vecchiuzzo and Tsakiris drained three-pointer to temporarily put their teams ahead. Marini hit his fifth three-pointer to put Reyer up 69-66 with 80 seconds to go. Bousmpouras pulled back two points from the free throw line but committed a traveling turnover with 10.3 seconds left. Marini however turned it over with 7.2 seconds to play giving Panathinaikos the chance to win, but Georgas missed his shot.

Italian side finishes group play with 1-2 record.

Gran Canaria takes down Efes after tough fight for 2-0 mark

U18 Gran Canaria remained perfect at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Istanbul by fighting past U18 Anadolu Efes Istanbul 87-79 in Group B. Gran Canaria took Efes’ best punch in the fourth quarter and delivered in the clutch for a 2-0 record. Arthur Tsafack paced Gran Canaria with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Jorge Arteaga had 14 points including the dagger three-pointer late in the game and Code Mbengue added 8 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks. Efes fell to 0-2 despite Atahan Akbas scoring 21 points and dishing out 5 assists. Aldin Turkoglu had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Mert Kocagozoglu picked up 13 points in the loss. 

After Gran Canaria started with a 9-5 lead, Efes got 5 points from Kocagozoglu in a 0-12 run to go ahead 9-17. The Spanish side punched back with a 13-2 surge and was leading 22-19 after the first quarter. Efes tallied the first nine points of the second quarter to reclaim the lead 22-28. Two baskets from Tsafack evened the game 33-33 and even though Gran Canaria nosed back ahead 37-36, the score was 39-41 at halftime. 

The beginning of the second half was back and forth with seven lead changes until Gran Canaria scored 6 straight points to take a 60-55 lead. The score was 60-56 after 30 minutes. Gran Canaria had a strong start to the final frame and increased the lead to 67-58. And the cushion was 71-61 with under 7 minutes to play. A Kocagozoglu three-pointer was followed by two triples from Demir Ozturk and Efes was suddenly down just 73-70. Gran Canaria answered with the next 6 points, and Arteaga buried a dagger three-pointer with 73 seconds left to lead 84-76.

NGT laid the foundation for its win with a 17-30 second quarter for a 2-0 mark in Group B. Jahel Trefle was the selection team’s top scorer with 16 points to go with 8 rebounds.

Next Gen team takes care of Fenerbahce 

The U18 Next Gen Team Istanbul grabbed its second victory in two games at the Adidas NextGen EuroLeague Istanbul by winning comfortably 74-95 over U18 Fenerbahce BEKO Istanbul. NGT laid the foundation for its win with a 17-30 second quarter for a 2-0 mark in Group B. Jahel Trefle was the selection team’s top scorer with 16 points to go with 8 rebounds, Lucas Sanchez and Dominique Fisher both had 13 points and Isaac Guedegbe tallied 12 points and 7 assists. Fenerbahce fell to 0-2 despite Omer Ziyaettin scoring 17 points and Ulas Urunlu chipping in 15 points. 

Trefle started strong for the selection team with 5 points in a 5-7 game. Urunlu shined at the other end with 11 points as Fenerbahce led 18-12. Louka Letailleur and Fisher combined for 9 points as NGT responded with a 0-15 run to surge back ahead 18-27. The score was 23-27 after 10 minutes. Ziyaettin and Doruk Yanci both hit triples to get Fenerbahce close at 29-32. Trefle responded with four more points as the advantage grew back to double digits at 31-41. And Sanchez and Djordje Djukanovic drained three-pointers to give NGT a 40-57 lead at halftime. 

The selection team hit the first six points of the third quarter as the cushion grew to 40-63. Fenerbahce trailed by 22 points when it went on an 8-0 spurt to climb within 53-67. The Turkish side still trailed 57-76 after three quarters. NGT once again started a quarter strong with the first five points to re-establish a 24-point lead. Fenerbahce did not get closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

LDLC ASVEL could lean on its fantastic guard duo of Theo Maledon and Nando De Colo to beat Anadolu Efes in Round 12 of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season.

ASVEL found its 'blueprint' in dismantling of Efes

[LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ldlc-asvel-villeurbanne/asv/) registered its biggest win of the season, and its largest win in more than two years, as it [beat the visiting Anadolu Efes Istanbul 97-82](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/asvel-rallies-to-blow-past-efes-97-82/) on Friday night.

It was a celebratory night at LDLC Arena to begin with, as team captain [Charles Kahudi](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/charles-kahudi/kir/) was honored in a pregame ceremony for making his 500th appearance for the team. For the first 20 minutes there was a growing feeling the team will not manage to finish the occasion as it wanted, with Efes dominating on offense.

The visitors scored 55 points in the first half, then held an 11-point lead in the opening minute of the third quarter, and 51-61 a minute later. From that point on, however, it felt as if was only one team on the floor. And that was ASVEL.

"It was just a reaction from us," [Theo Maledon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/theo-maledon/007027/) said in a EuroLeague TV interview after the game. "In the first I felt we were not executing, so it was just a reaction from everybody, realizing that we need to play with more intensity."

The hosts needed 6 minutes to erase the deficit, and after [Joffrey Lauvergne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/joffrey-lauvergne/004194/) finished a fast break with a dunk to give ASVEL a 68-66 lead with 1:31 to go in the third, the home team never relinquished the lead.

ASVEL had a two-headed playmaking monster in Maledon and [Nando De Colo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nando-de-colo/002100/). This combination of youth and experience torched Efes throughout the game. Maledon had 17 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds, and even though the 23-year-old shined like he has many times already this season, De Colo's performance might have been more eye-pleasing.

In just over 16 minutes on the floor, the 37-year-old De Colo had 17 points, making all 3 of his two-point shots and 3-of-6 three-pointers, while also dishing 4 assists. He masterminded the offense when he was on the floor, and had a great connection with another veteran, big man Lauvegne, who finished as ASVEL's top scorer with 18 points on 9-of-11 two-point shooting.

But what made the difference was ASVEL's second-half defense. After allowing 61 points in the first 22 minutes of this contest, ASVEL allowed just 10 points in the next 14 minutes. Making one defensive stop after another allowed ASVEL to run and open a 90-71 lead, a 29-10 spurt.

"That's got to be our blueprint, that's how we have to approach every game, and just keep riding that wave," Maledon said.

"I think we told truth to ourselves at halftime," De Colo explained. "We knew they scored too and we tried to fix things between us and try to be more aggressive."

"The season is long, and the players proved themselves that they can be a great defensive team, so hopefully we can build on this", ASVEL coach Pierric Poupet said, adding: "This is the EuroLeague, and if we want to compete every game, we have to always match this intensity level."

The next step for ASVEL will be taking this type of performance on the road. ASVEL is now 4-2 on its home floor but 0-6 on the road. However, before going on the road, ASVEL will have another home test against none other than Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Serbian center, who tied his career high in scoring with 25 points – 15 came in the first period – was the first one to stress the completeness of his team’s game, who held the competition’s best scoring team to 77 points and the league’s top scorer, [Carsen Edwards](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/carsen-edwards/011987/), to just 3 points. On the other side, Zvezda played an impressive game on offense, scoring 101 points and dishing 34 assists.

“Today, we want a good game and a good win. And this is exactly what happened,” Zvezda head coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos celebrated in the press conference. “We played against the best offense of the league \[...\] and as you saw, we kept them very low. But also offensively, we moved the ball, we served the ball and we had very good movement to find the best option to shoot.

Talking about offense, the 34 assists recorded by his team overcame the previous best mark that occurred last season on March 22, 2024, when the team registered 30 in a 94-79 win against Virtus Segafredo Bologna. “We had time to work because there was a break after a lot of games,” Sfairopoulos revealed. “We refreshed the team, we worked on our problems, details defensively, and \[...\] we had a great team game. Not only offensively with 34 assists, but also defensively. In general, we are a team that passes really well. These 34 assists are, to me, the meaning of the team. It shows how good we are."

On the other side, focusing on defense, Zvezda's work was also excellent, and one of the keys was to include [Ognjen Dobric](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/ognjen-dobric/004007/) in the starting five for the first time of the season. He not only stopped Edwards, but also scored 13 of his total 15 points in the third quarter, helping his team seal the outcome plenty of minutes before the final whistle.

“He did a great job. We know the quality he has and that showed today. He was dominant in both ends of the game”. Sfairopoulos praised. “Defensively and offensively, he made really good decisions on whatever he did. He did \[everything\] the right way and he showed character, but also why we brought him."

A game featuring 25 lead changes was ultimately taken by the Roca Team thanks to a powerful finale, holding Panathinaikos to just one field goal in the last three minutes and outscoring the home team 4-10 over the decisive last 120 seconds.

The key man offensively down the stretch was [Jordan Loyd](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/jordan-loyd/009754/), who scored 8 of his 15 points in the final quarter and 5 of them in the last 32 seconds, as he followed a three-point dagger by staying ice cool to dispatch free throws.

Loyd’s triple was particularly important as it gave his team a lead that would last the rest of the way, and he epitomized relaxed confidence as he looked back on that key moment and smiled: “You never shoot to miss! It was a great pass by [Elie \[Okobo\]](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/elie-okobo/011212/); we have some of the best guards in EuroLeague, we play for each other, and I just had to finish the job.”

That collective job saw Monaco overcome rebounding problems – Panathinaikos won the battle of the boards 38-25 – largely thanks to a smoothly functioning offense which delivered 26 assists with just 8 turnovers, leading to excellent shooting percentages of 21 of 37 from two-point range (56.8%) and 10 of 22 from deep (45.5%), while also forcing Panathinaikos into 14 turnovers and restricting the Greens to just 6 three-point conversions on 26 attempts (23.1%).

Loyd was again keen to pass on the credit to his teammates as he spoke to EuroLeague TV after the game, saying: “Everybody that stepped on the floor today did a great job. We were looking for one another, not just offensively but also defensively. When you do that, it will translate back to offense. It was fun playing like this, we have a lot to build on and I love the vibe and the passion that we had tonight.”

Of course, it’s impossible to escape the Spanoulis factor, with Monaco riding a wave of positivity following the arrival of one of European basketball’s greatest 21st century legends into the coaching hot seat just three days earlier.

And Loyd admitted that the opportunity to learn from the Greek great is something he is determined to grab with both hands, saying: “This is amazing. A legend here. Some time I’m going to look back on my career and just look at all the people that I’ve been blessed to come into and play under. I’m going to learn as much as I can, be a sponge and enjoy it.”

Enjoy it? Based on Friday’s evidence we’re all going to enjoy it… except Monaco’s opponents.

Mirotic scored all his points in the opening three quarters and then turned on his defense in the fourth, having finished just 2 points shy of his career high of 31 as he also racked up 9 rebounds.

[Zach LeDay](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/zach-leday/008987/) came up big in the fourth quarter when he netted 11 of his 19 points as Milan won the battle of the boards 36-32 and dished out 22 assists against Fenerbahce’s 17, prompting Mirotic to heap praise on his teammates while acknowledging he too was inspired by the occasion.

“I needed a big game in a big arena against a team playing probably the best basketball in Europe right now, so I was very motivated,” Mirotic said in a post-game courtside interview. “I think we did a great job as a team and I am proud of what we have achieved in the last couple of weeks. I really hope that we can continue to make progress.”

Mirotic also revealed that he was fired up for a personal battle with Fenerbahce counterpart [Nigel Hayes-Davis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nigel-hayes-davis/008962/), who was restricted to just 8 points on 2-of-8 shooting from the floor.

“I was very motivated to perform against Nigel because he’s been playing great lately and it was always going to be a great matchup,” said the Montenegrin-born sharpshooter. “We now have two huge home games coming up and I hope we’re going to be ready. We believe in each other and trust the coaching staff in what they are asking us to do.”

Milan head coach Ettore Messina was also pleased with his team’s hard-working approach. “The team played with no fear and with togetherness, as everybody had their moments,” he said. “Obviously, our leaders had a great game, but we competed as a team and I am very happy because we are progressing every day.”

Messina’s opposite number Sarunas Jasikevicius conceded that complacency might have crept into Fenerbahce after six successive wins, some of which came after the Turkish team was forced to dig deep into its resources.

Oddly enough, Fenerbahce – which slipped to 9-3 – has suffered all three defeats on home court. The Turkish side could plausibly claim that the 76-81 reverse against reigning EuroLeague champion Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens was not exactly a shock, but defeats by Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade and Milan were certainly not in the script.

“We probably didn’t prepare the team well and perhaps there comes a point in the season when you are feeling too good about yourself,” a grim Jasikevicius said in his post-game comments. “Most likely, you are going to get punished in these situations more often than not.”

ASVEL rallies to blow past Efes, 97-82

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne protected its home court in style on Friday night, coming back from a double-digit deficit to down the visiting Anadolu Efes Istanbul 97-82. This win improved ASVEL to a 4-8 record, while Efes dropped to 6-6 with its second straight defeat.

Efes seemed in control and led 47-58 in the opening minute of the third quarter, but ASVEL stepped up defensively, erasing the deficit before the end of the third quarter, then pulling away in the fourth to record its biggest win of the season. 

Joffrey Lauvergne paced ASVEL with 18 points, while Theo Maledon and Nando De Colo scored 17 apiece, with Maledon also dishing 7 assists. Neal Sako scored 11 in the winning effort. Efes's Rodrigue Beaubois paced all scorers with 20 points, Darius Thompson had 14, and Vincent Poirier scored 10 in defeat.

The two teams moved quickly from the get-go. Lauvergne scored twice inside and Maledon had a three-point play, but two three-pointers from Ercan Osmani and two from Darius Thompson opened a 10-19 lead. Charles Kahudi stopped the bleeding for the hosts, before Sako and De Colo combined to score all points in a 9-0 run that tied it at 22-22, then Rolands Smits got a lucky roll on a corner triple to make it 22-25 after 10 minutes.

De Colo took it to the rim again and Sako's dunk put the hosts in front. Nwora and Lighty traded triples, before Andre Roberson's fast-break dunk made it 31-39. Both sides kept trading leads, with Maledon and Tarik Black scoring for ASVEL, but Beaubois was unstoppable on the other end. His three-point play made it 36-38, then a pair of triples, with Dan Oturu's three-point play in between, put Efes up 43-48. Lauvergne scored twice from close range after nifty moves, but the visitors stayed in front behind defensive plays from Oturu and baskets from Nwora and Bryant helped the visitors to a 47-55 halftime lead.

Thompson opened the third quarter with a three-point play, and Bryant had a three-pointer, but ASVEL started trimming the lead through Sako and Maledon, who combined for 9 points, including Maledon's three-pointer to cut it to 56-61. A transition triple from David Lighty continued ASVEL's charge, and a fast-break basket by Shaq Harrison started an 11-1 run, during which De Colo nailed a triple and Lauvergne scored twice from close range. ASVEL did not allow a field goal in nearly 5 minutes to end the quarter and held 70-67 after 30 minutes.

De Colo drove to the rim and nailed a three-pointer, and Lauvergne scored twice inside to open a double-digit lead, 79-69. Another three from De Colo, his third, and a fast-break layup from Charles Kahudi extended it to 84-69 with 6 minutes to go. Nwora ended Efes's drought, but Paris Lee and Maledon hit back-to-back triple to make it a 19-point game, 90-71. The game felt already decided, but a three from Lee and a second-chance jumper from Lighty put the icing on a cake in the final minutes.
