Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul has strengthened its backcourt by signing playmaker Nick Calathes to a two-year deal, the club announced on Tuesday. Calathes (1.96 meters, 33 years old) arrives from FC Barcelona, where he averaged 7.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 29 games last season while leading the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in assists (6.4 apg.). In his two seasons with Barcelona, Calathes helped the team win the Spanish League and reach the EuroLeague Championship Game in 2021, and lifted Spanish Cups in 2021 and 2022.

Calathes previously played for Panathinaikos for eight seasons over two periods - from 2009 to 2012 and 2015 through 2020. In his first stint with the Greens, Calathes helped the club win the EuroLeague in 2011. More recently, Calathes was chosen to the All-EuroLeague First Team for both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns. He has led the EuroLeague in assists in four of the last five seasons and leads the all-time charts in that category with 1,711. He is also second all time in steals (367) and 13th in PIR (3,451).
Calathes holds the EuroLeague single-game playoff record for assists (16) and has dished at least 15 assists in a game a record six times - as many as all other players in EuroLeague history combined. On April 4, 2019, Calathes became the second player, after Nikola Vujcic, to record a triple-double in the EuroLeague when he amassed 11 points, 12 rebounds and 18 assists against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. Calathes won the 7DAYS EuroCup with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar in 2013 and was the competition's MVP that season with 12.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists in 17 games. He helped Panathinaikos win six Greek League championships and four Greek Cups. Calathes has also played for Memphis of the NBA and has been a member of the Greek national team, which he helped to the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2009.
