AS Monaco has been rolling of late with a great run of results. But not even head coach Sasa Obradovic or star guard Mike James could believe what the team did in its 102-80 victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul on Friday night.
Monaco surprised itself with “best game” of season

“It was the best game we’ve played so far,” said Obradovic, whose team has now won nine of its last 12 games for a 15-14 record. But the biggest surprise was that Monaco was able to grab the tiebreaker with Efes, after having lost the first matchup in Round 11 in Istanbul 98-77.
“If somebody would have told me that we would be attacking this 21-point point loss from Istanbul I would have never believed it. But it actually happened,” said Obradovic, who watched his team score a club record in the EuroLeague for points in a non-overtime game - only being bested by the 107 points scored in overtime in Round 15 against Zalgiris Kaunas.
James admitted after the game that the beating by Efes back in mid-November felt even worse than it was, which is why he didn’t even realize Monaco had a chance to win the tiebreaker until late in the game.
“It felt like we got beat by 40 the first time. So I didn’t even know the point difference until like 3 minutes left,” said James, who scored a game-high 27 points, including the three free throws with 7.1 seconds left to secure the tiebreaker.
