LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne was one of the first major powerhouses in France as it claimed 15 championships between 1949 and 1981. It reached the Saporta Cup finals in 1983 and then the 1997 EuroLeague Final Four, but when ASVEL conquered the French League in the spring of 2002, that was the club's first domestic crown in 21 years. In 2009, ASVEL won the French League to secure its return to the following season’s EuroLeague. A major step forward came in 2014 when Tony Parker became club president. The 2019-20 campaign saw a commendable return to the EuroLeague, with nine home wins before the season prematurely ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With Parker’s brother, T.J., newly installed as head coach, ASVEL collected 13 EuroLeague regular-season wins along with the French League and Cup double in 2021. In the 2021-22 campaign, ASVEL successfully defended the French championship for the first time since 1972. ASVEL lifted the Leaders Cup in 2023, but the last two seasons were trophyless campaigns for the French giant. With EuroLeague legend Nando De Colo still under contract and head coach Pierric Poupet entering his second full season in charge, ASVEL will be looking to improve on finishing at the bottom in each of the last two EuroLeague seasons.
