Aris Thessaloniki has confirmed the arrival of Nikos Persidis on a two-year contract. Persidis (27 years old, 2.00 meters) joins Aris from fellow Greek side Peristeri, where he averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in a bench role across 17 games in the Greek League last season. After spending the first part of the 2022-23 campaign with AEK Athens, Persidis moved to Peristeri and played under ex-Olympiacos Piraeus legend Vassilis Spanoulis.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica added another piece in the process a building a new roster for the upcoming season by signing shooting guard Fletcher Magee, the club announced on Tuesday.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica added another piece in the process a building a new roster for the upcoming season by signing shooting guard Fletcher Magee, the club announced on Tuesday. Magee (1.93 meters, 26 years old) is a prolific three-point shooter who arrives from a city rival SC Derby for which he averaged 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the ABA League last season. He was making 2.8 triples per game on 42.2% three-point shooting.

Magee once already signed with Buducnost, back in the summer of 2020, but he never played for the club, rather moved to SC Derby where he spent the past three seasons.

The new Buducnost perimeter threat started his professional career in the 2019-20 campaign in the Spanish League with Monbus Obradoiro, where he posted 11.3 points. Prior to that, Magee attended Wofford College where he was a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year, and made 509 career three-pointers. That stood as a record until this summer when two players passed him. Magee has done it with an impressive 43.5% accuracy, by far the highest for a player with at least 400 three-point shots made in NCAA history.

Magee is now set to make his EuroCup debut, and is second SC Derby player to join the club this week, after Buducnost [signed forward Andrija Slavkovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/buducnost-brings-back-forward-slavkovic/) on Monday.

Christmas (1.96 meters, 26 years old) averaged 15.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 34 appearances for the Artland Dragons last season. He began his professional career in Germany with Dragons Rhoendorf in 2021 and later joined Musel Pikes in Luxembourg that season. Christmas played college basketball at Cal Poly Pomona where he was a three-time All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team selection.

"I saw Will last summer during our pre-season game against the Artland Dragons and have followed him continuously since then. I noticed him mainly because of his motor, which was exceptional even then," Coach Benka Barloschky said of Christmas. "He was then able to confirm this first impression during the course of the season. Both individually and within the team, Will had a very convincing and successful season. In terms of basketball, he is characterized by his versatility – he can play several positions on both ends of the court."

Zalmanson (2.05 meters, 28 years old) made his EuroCup debut last season and helped Hapoel reach the quarterfinals. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16 games off the bench. Zalmanson played an average of 10:23 minutes per game. He had one of his best games against Umana  Reyer Venice in the eighthfinals with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for a PIR of 17 in 13:18.

A product of the Maccabi Tel Aviv youth system, Zalmanson made his professional debut with that club and also played for Bnei Herzliya, Maccabi Rishon LeZion, Hapoel Eilat and Hapoel Jerusalem. He has won the Israeli League twice and the Israeli State Cup three times. Zalmanson has also played for the Israeli national team at both the junior and senior levels.

Agada (1.96 meters, 28 years old) was a key force for Prometey last season in the club's run to the EuroCup semifinals. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals over 18 games in the competition. Agada was second in the EuroCup in steals. He also helped Prometey win the Latvian-Estonian League last season. Agada is signed to play for the Ottawa BlackJacks in the Canadian Elite Basketball League this summer.

 Agada played college ball at the University of Ottawa in Canada before starting his professional career with CB Prat of Spain. He then spent the next two years at Melilla Baloncesto, with a brief spell at Hamilton of Canada in the 2018-19 season. Agada then joined Hapoel Be'er Sheva and was the Israeli League's top scorer in 2020-21 with 22.9 points per game. He played for Melbourne United in the 2021-22 season. Agada has also played for the Nigerian national team, including at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Some of the EuroCup teams got a strong start to the summer as they started building rosters for the 2023-24 season. Here are some of the most-important signings from the past week.

### A revamped roster in Turkish capital

Turk Telekom Ankara made the EuroCup Finals less than two months ago, but the team from the capital of Turkiye is set to have a brand new roster in the next season. In the past eighth days, Turk Telekom re-signed couple of its seldom-used role players – Boran Guler and Mehmet Yagmur – while bringing in as many as nine new faces! New head coach Nenad Canak, who signed himself with the team two weeks ago, will have a combination of proven veterans at this level, and EuroCup newcomers eager to prove themselves. Tyrone Wallace, who was one of EuroCup's most productive players last season, James Palmer, who was one of EuroCup's top scorers, and playmaker Jalen Adams, who arrives from Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, form a new and very potent backcourt. The team got a dangerous young scorer at the wings in Markis McDuffie, it also got an exciting big forward Yigitcan Saybir, and a high-reel machine under the rims in Steven Enoch who arrives after two years at Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. Turk Telekom changed almost an entire roster, but did it before many of the other teams even made their first signing.

Tyrone Wallace made an impressive EuroCup debut last season, averaging 15.7 points, 5.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals. His 18.1 average PIR over 15 appearances ranked fifth last season,

### Besiktas loading up with experience

We stay in Turkiye with Besiktas Istanbul, a returnee to the competition after a seven-year hiatus. In this early period of the summer, Besiktas opted for somewhat familiar faces, all coming from the fellow Turkish clubs. Besiktas put coach Dusan Alimpijevic in charge of the bench. The 2021-22 EuroCup Coach of the Year who guided Frutti Extra Bursaspor to a magical run to the finals that season, has now taken the charge of Besiktas. With him he will have his on-court right-hand man from the previous club, former All-EuroCup First Team point guard Derek Needham to run Besiktas offense. The club also continued digging for Turkish talent, and inked two former EuroLeague champs who helped Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul win continental crown in 2017, Berk Ugurlu and Egehan Arna, the latter of which returns to Besiktas after a season away. All that experience of playing at the highest level will be much-needed for Besiktas in its return to the competition.

 

### Teams make decisions on head coaches

There have been couple more teams that have found new coaches. Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana has done it by appointing Simone Pianigiani almost a month ago, while last week Paris Basketball hired Tuomas Iisalo, one of the most sought-after coaching minds in Europe. A former shooting guard as a player, earned German League Coach of the Year honors in each of the past two seasons, and now is set to make his EuroCup debut with an exciting team that has relied heavily on young talent in the past.

Meanwhile, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, Veolia Towers Hamburg and competition newcomer Wolves Vilnius all signed new contracts with the men who sat on their respective benches late last season. Kestutis Kemzura remains on the Wolves' bench, which he took over last March. He returns to the competition for the first time since 2015, and with a 32-27 career record. Petar Mijovic, who took over Buducnost bench in April, will take his 9-11 record into the new season. It is his third stint with the club from the Montenegrin capital. Meanwhile, Benka Barloschky, a 35-year old who was promoted from assistant coach to head coach back in January, has signed a two-year deal with Hamburg.

 

### All-EuroCup boosts for Reyer and Gran Canaria

All-EuroCup center Bruno Caboclo was on a radar of many European teams, but it was Umana Reyer Venice that signed the uber-productive center. The big man ranked second in the EuroCup last season with an average PIR of 19.6, also ranked second in blocks (1.5 bpg.) and two-pointers made (5.2), fifth in points (17.4 ppg.), sixth in rebounds (7.8 rpg.) and seventh in offensive rebounds (2.5 orpg.). Caboclo not only helped ratiopharm Ulm reach the EuroCup quarterfinals, but also win its first-ever German League crown.

Caboclo will be a huge addition for Reyer under the rims, as much as John Shurna extending with Dreamland Gran Canaria will be meaningful for the defending champs. Shurna was chosen to the All-EuroCup First Team last season, as he averaged of 11.7 points on 48.5% three-point shooting, then led Gran Canaria to its first EuroCup crown and was named Finals MVP after scoring 18 points in the championship game against Turk Telekom. Shurna already spent three years with the club, and the veteran forward will now remain the cornerstone of all Gran Canaria plans moving forward – including an attempt to become the first-ever team to defend EuroCup title.

Gran Canaria forward John Shurna completed a magical season with another individual accolade as the 7DAYS EuroCup Finals MVP. Shurna was the leading scorer with 18 points as Gran Canaria held off Turk Telekom Ankara 71-67 to win the EuroCup for the first time and earn a ticket to the 2023-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

### Big scorers, rebounders arrive to EuroCup

Several teams snatched big-time scorers to lead their offenses in the upcoming season. Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse brought Bryce Brown, the Polish League Finals MVP who netted 17.8 points last season in helping Szczecin win Polish title. Prometey Slobozhanske and its most exciting offense will have Marcus Keene to rely on putting up points. Keene was posted 20.2 points and led the French League wit 3.6 triple per game last season. Hamburg inked V.J. King who was scoring 18.2 points in the British Basketball League last season. Two teams secured services of big-time rebounders. London Lions brought home Gabe Olaseni, who was averaging 7.4 rebounds in the Turkish League last season, while Gran Canaria inked Ethan Happ who ranked second in the Spanish League in rebounding with 7.9 per game last season.

Grbovic (2.07 meters, 19 years old) arrives from Mega MIS Belgrade where he averaged 6.0 points and 3.4 rebounds in the ABA League last season. He has left his native Montenegro as a 14-year old to join German side ratiopharm Ulm, where he played for the club's youth categories, including three years in ANGT tournaments.

He also played for Orange Academy Ulm, club's German second division team before moving to Serbia and playing for OKK Beograd in the Serbian League for the better part of the 2021-22 season. He then joined Mega, where he also led its junior team to the U19 ABA League crown as a tournament MVP.

Grbovic has been a member of all Montenegrin youth national teams, and has won a bronze medal at the U20 European championship in 2022. He made his Montenegro national team debut earlier this year.

Soluade (1.96 meters, 27 years old) averaged just 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in limited action off the bench in his EuroCup debut, playing 11 minutes per game. But Soluade ranked 15th last season posting 2.4 steals per-40 minutes.

Defense has been Soluade's strength, as a year earlier he led Spanish second division in steals at 1.9 per night playing for Leyma Basquet Coruña. Soluade started his professional basketball career with Unicaja Malaga, playing for its development squad, Clinicas Rincon, for the best part of five seasons. He made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with Unicaja in the 2014-15 season, averaging 4.0 points in four games. Soluade has also played for Gipuzkoa Basket, San Pablo Burgos and Breogan Lugo of Spain, as well as for Legia Warszawa of Poland. He helped Breogan win the Spanish second division league title in 2021. Soluade has also been a member of the British national team.
