FC Barcelona and combo guard Nico Laprovittola reached a new agreement to keep working together until the end of the 2025-26 season, the club announced Saturday. Laprovittola (1.90 meters, 32 years old) averaged 9.6 points on 44.0% three-point shooting, 88.2% free throw accuracy and 3.1 assists in 38 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. He helped Barca win the Spanish Cup title and reach the EuroLeague Final Four. He earned MVP of the Round honors twice last season - in Regular Season Round 27 against Real Madrid and in playoffs Game 5 against FC Bayern Munich, getting 26 points and a PIR of 30 in his team's series-clinching home win.
Barca extends guard Laprovittola
Laprovittola was already under contract, as he signed a two-year deal with Barca last summer. Laprovittola joined Barca from Real, where he averaged 6.8 points and 3.8 assists in 34 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in the 2020-21 season. That was his second EuroLeague season with Real after he had debuted in the competition with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in the 2016-17 season. All told, Laprovittola has 109 career EuroLeague games with averages of 6.9 points and 3.2 assists. He has also played twice in the 7DAYS EuroCup, with Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in 2015-16 and Zenit St Petersburg in 2017-18, putting up 10.8 points and 4.7 assists over 17 games total.
Laprovittola started his professional basketball career with Lanus Buenos Aires of his native Argentina and has played, too, for Flamengo of Brazil, Estudiantes and Joventut Badalona of Spain, and San Antonio of the NBA. He was the 2018-19 Spanish League MVP while playing for Joventut, for whom he averaged 17.1 points and 6.4 assists in 36 domestic games. Laprovittola is a regular on Argentina's national team, with whom he won a silver medal at the 2019 World Cup.
