FC Bayern Munich strengthened its frontcourt by inking center Freddie Gillespie to a two-year deal, the club announced Monday. Gillespie (2.03 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Memphis of the G League, where he averaged 9.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 34 games. He also played for Orlando of the NBA in the 2021-22 campaign, averaging 2.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 9 games.
Bayern inks big man Gillespie
Gillespie finished his college career at Baylor University, averaging 9.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 29 games in the 2019-20 campaign. He started his career with Toronto of the NBA and soon joined Memphis, averaging 10.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 15 G League games in the 2020-21 season. Gillespie is set to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with Bayern in the 2022-23 season. "I'm sure that Europe and especially Bayern is the right place for me at this moment to develop my game and improve. What I will bring is, first and foremost, my mentality of wanting to get the best out of every situation, plus rebounding, defense, defending the rim, setting screens, going to offensive rebound and my physicality."
