Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade has a new big man in the paint after signing a two-year deal with Marko Simonovic, the club announced on Saturday night. Simonovic (2.13 meters, 24 years old) has spent the last two seasons between the Chicago Bulls in the NBA and Windy City in the G-League. He appeared in 16 NBA games over that two-year period, while mostly playing in the G-League where last season Simonovic played in 42 games for Windy City and averaged 14.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Simonovic now returns to the Serbian capital where he previously spent two season in a jersey of Mega Belgrade. In his last season there, the 2020-21 campaign, Simonovic led Adriatic League in rebounding with 9.1 boards per game.
A man who can play both as a power forward and a center, moved from his native Montenegro as a teenager, and played in Italy with San Mauro for two years and Siena for a season, both in Italian League second division. In 2018, Simonovic moved to Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana of Slovenia, and stayed there for a year before joining Mega.
Simonovic has been a member of the Montenegrin national team, and this upcoming season he is set to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut.
