Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has confirmed that forward Jake Cohen has signed a new contract at the club until the summer of 2025. Cohen (32 years old, 2.10 meters) appeared in 27 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games for Maccabi last season. Cohen also started working for EuroLeague TV last season, hosting 'The Players' View' alongside ex-teammate Michael Roll.

He played an important role down the final stretch of the season as Maccabi reached the playoffs. Cohen's renewal follows a trend at Maccabi, as the club has made an effort to keep together the core of last season's team. In the last few months, key players such as Lorenzo Brown, Wade Baldwin and Bonzie Colson have all penned new deals to remain in Tel Aviv, while the announcement of a new contract for Cohen, who in his third spell at Maccabi, comes one day after John DiBartolomeo signed a new deal to 2025.

Eli Ndiaye proved to be a luxury for Real Madrid. At the age of 18 on a title contender, his role was expected to be that of a promising player who would soak up experience from his older teammates and play fringe minutes when needed.

At the age of 18 on a title contender, his role was expected to be that of a promising player who would soak up experience from his older teammates and play fringe minutes when needed. 

And so it was at the start of the season. In the first seven rounds of the regular season, Ndiaye appeared in only two games and both times for less than 30 seconds. His first chance came in Round 8 when Ndiaye was given nearly 22 minutes on the floor and produced 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals for a PIR of 10 in a 90-72 victory.

Ndiaye only played more than 10 minutes three times during the regular season, while five of his dozen regular-season appearances were for less than a minute and three more were for less than 3 minutes. But when the biggest games of the season arrived, Ndiaye's long season of learning from veterans and watching from the sidelines had prepared him for a key role.

In the fifth game of Real’s playoff series against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, Ndiaye made his first start of the season. He contributed 4 points and 4 rebounds in 12:05 of playing time and would remain in the starting lineup for both Final Four games in Kaunas. 

With Coach Mateo adopting a strategy for these crucial games to use younger players early so that his veterans could close out the contests, Ndiaye fit the bill perfectly. The youngest player to start a championship game at 18 years, 11 months and 10 days, he totaled 13:38 of playing time in those two games and did not miss a shot while totaling 5 points. More than the numbers though was Ndiaye willing to battle with his older counterparts in those early minutes of each game to help set the tone. And those minutes proved to be critical, especially in the championship game, as Los Blancos prevailed by a single point to earn the trophy. 

By winning the championship, Ndiaye also joined Luka Doncic and teammate Alberto Abalde as the only players to ever win both the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament MVP Award and the EuroLeague crown in their careers. 

Barcelona sweeps Real Madrid for Spanish crown!

FC Barcelona lifted its 20th Spanish League title on Tuesday night by defeating Real Madrid 82-93 in Game 3 of the best-of-five El Clasico final series, and completing the 3-0 sweep after two initial wins in Barcelona. This way, Barcelona reclaims the title that Los Blancos took from them last season, and take some revenge from the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague semifinals in which eventual champ Real Madrid took the win. It is the second Spanish League title won by Barcelona in the last three years, the same years that coach Sarunas Jasikevicius has led the new Barca project from the bench.

Jan Vesely led Barca with 19 points and 3 rebounds. Four more Barcelona players scored in double digits - Nikola Mirotic (14), who played his last game with the Catalan team and was chosen MVP of the Finals; Rokas Jokubaitis (13) Nico Lapprovitola (12) and Nikola Kalinic (10)-. For Real, Walter Tavares dominated with 17 points and 9 rebounds, but it was not enough to take the series to a 2-1.

The game was balanced throughout the first three quarters, as it was 21-20 after 10 minutes and 41-38 at the halftime break. Vesely was solid from the field however, and the guests kept a solid accuracy from beyond the arc (11 of 22 at the end of regulation). Real struggled all night from the same distance (5 of 21), while it also missed too much from the free throw line. In the last quarter, Barcelona seemed to find the way to leave Real behind with a collective effort. A three-point play by Mirotic with 1:38 to go made it a 10-point game, 80-90, neutralizing a last effort by Sergio Rodriguez from the arc.

"This title means a lot," Mirotic said. "The way we finished the season... the club deserves it, the fans deserve it... We defeated the European champs. We have to celebrate now! I said I would give it all until the last day, and I think I showed it. But it's not about me, it's about Barcelona. We won, and that's what matters."

Panathinaikos Athens has appointed two-time Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion Ergin Ataman as its new head coach on a two-year deal, with the Greens eager to become a European powerhouse once again. Ataman arrives from Anadolu Efes Istanbul, where he was in charge between 2017 and 2023 and guided the team to back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022.

Panathinaikos Athens has appointed two-time Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion [Ergin Ataman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/teams/anadolu-efes-istanbul/ist/ataman-ergin/) as its new head coach on a two-year deal, with the Greens eager to become a European powerhouse once again. Ataman arrives from Anadolu Efes Istanbul, where he was in charge between 2017 and 2023 and guided the team to back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2021 and 2022. The 57-year-old was named the EuroLeague Coach of the Year in 2021, too.

The return of Ergin Ataman to its bench in late 2017 triggered Anadolu Efes Istanbul's quick climb to the ranks of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions, and he is wholly confident that his team can stay at the top.

Ataman arrives in Athens with a ton of experience coaching in the EuroLeague, having overseen a combined 389 games with Montepaschi Siena (2002-03), Ulkerspor (2003-06), Fortitudo Bologna (2006-07), Efes (2008-10), Galatasaray (2013-17) and Efes again (2017-23). The Turkish tactician has won 195 of those fixtures and lost 194, giving him a winning percentage of 50.1%. In his second spell with Efes, Ataman was on the sidelines for 192 games, winning 117 and losing 75 for a winning percentage of 64.1%.

He took over at Efes with the club languishing at the bottom of the EuroLeague standings in the middle of the 2017-18 campaign, but he soon managed to build the team into a dominant force in Europe. In fact, Efes reached the 2019 EuroLeague Championship Game after defeating FC Barcelona in the playoffs and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in the semifinals, yet it came up short against CSKA Moscow in the title game.

Rather than rest on its laurels, Efes came back the following season even stronger, going 24-4 through the first 28 games to top the standings. However, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the season being cancelled. The following two seasons saw Efes beat Barça and Real Madrid in the 2021 and 2022 championship games, respectively, as it became just the third team this century to go back-to-back. A turbulent campaign followed in 2022-23, though, as Efes went 17-17 in the regular season and missed the playoffs.

Panathinaikos, which has not made the playoffs since 2019, is hoping that Ataman will bring a similar level of success to the six-time EuroLeague champion. The appointment of Ataman is set to light the fuse for a very busy summer at Panathinaikos, with a number of players already rumored to have been approached by the Greens.

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and team captain John DiBartolomeo have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the club through the end of the 2024-25 season, which will be his eighth with Maccabi.

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and team captain [John DiBartolomeo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/john-dibartolomeo/007990/) have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the club through the end of the 2024-25 season, which will be his eighth with Maccabi. DiBartolomeo (1.83 meters, 32 years old) comes off his finest season with Maccabi, in which he averaged 6.2 points and 1.1 assists over 39 games in a reserve role. He made 41.7% of his three-pointers and led the league in free-throw accuracy this season at 98.2%.

DiBartolomeo first joined Maccabi in 2017 and was named team captain later that season. In his time with the club, DiBartolomeo has won four Israeli championships. He previously played two seasons with Maccabi Haifa, with which he won the Israeli Cup in 2017. That season DiBartolomeo was also named Israeli League MVP. He made his professional debut with Spanish side Palma Air Europe, where he played from 2013 to 2015.

Having spent a decade as an assistant at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and with the Utah Jazz in the NBA prior to becoming head coach at Turk Telekom last season, Can now gets his first opportunity to lead a team in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

With Turk Telekom Ankara on the brink of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, head coach Erdem Can has been rewarded for his impressive coaching performances this season by being named the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup Coach of the Year.

Can began his coaching career back in 2008, acting as an assistant at Turk Telekom – the team from where he is born, Ankara – for two years. From there, he took on the role of head coach for the first time at Turkish First Division club Olin Edirne, where he remained between 2010 and 2012.

Ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, Can agreed to become an assistant again, this time at Fenerbahce. In his first season at the club, he worked under Simone Pianigiani and Ertugrul Erdogan, before learning from legendary coach Zeljko Obradovic for the next seven years. Alongside Obradovic, Can became a EuroLeague champion in 2017. The final Fenerbahce head coach that Can assisted was Igor Kokoskov in the 2020-21 season.

The 42-year-old then departed from Fenerbahce and became an assistant for Quin Snyder at the Utah Jazz. After one season in the NBA, Can returned to his native Turkey having accepted the opportunity to become Turk Telekom's head coach. Can's work on the Turk Telekom bench caught the eye of many, not just in Turkey but across Europe, and he is now tasked with trying to return Efes, the back-to-back EuroLeague champion in 2021 and 2022, back to the top of European basketball.

Having returned to Europe last summer following a one-season stint with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, Petr Cornelie ended up becoming a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion with Real Madrid.

Having returned to Europe last summer following a one-season stint with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, Petr Cornelie ended up becoming a Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion with Real Madrid. The 27-year-old Frenchman largely had a reserve role for Los Blancos in his first year in the EuroLeague, playing 33 games and averaging 5.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and a 6.7 PIR in 14:33 on the floor. While Cornelie did not feature at the Final Four, he was a constant source of support for his teammates as Real became the European champion once again.

The 2022-23 season started well for Cornelie, who had 12 points on the road at FC Barcelona in Round 2 and 11 points against Olympiacos Piraeus in Round 3. That was followed by 7 points in Round 4 and 9 points in Round 5, as the forward's sharpshooting from three-point territory started to become known right across Europe. There was a 10-point night against Valencia Basket in Round 10 that stood out, but it wasn’t until Round 16 that he rediscovered his best performances. After scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds against Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, Cornelie went on to score a season-high 18 points against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in Round 17 and then 12 in Round 18 against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade.

Cornelie had one more double-digit scoring night, which came against Valencia in Round 28, when he also had a season-best 7 rebounds. Curiously, such was his ability to score from distance that he had three performances – in Round 5 against Virtus Segafredo Bologna, in Round 25 against Zalgiris Kaunas and in Round 31 against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul – in which he scored 9 points after going 3-of-3 on three-pointers.

Cornelie signed a one-year deal at Real and his future is uncertain, with the big man having played a combined total of just 5:29 across Games 3 and 4 in the EuroLeague Playoffs against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, but he showed in the regular season that he has what it takes to play at the EuroLeague level. He may not have been on the court when Real overcame its final hurdles to lift the title, yet Cornelie will never forget this campaign. After all, he will forever be known as Petr Cornelie, 2023 EuroLeague champion.

The 2022-23 season featured two great shooters who stood out from the pack by reaching the magical numbers needed for a 50-40-90 season: Nando De Colo of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and Niels Giffey of FC Bayern Munich.

A 50-40-90 season means a player made at least 50% of his attempted two-pointers, 40% of his threes and 90% of his free throws, with a minimum number of shots made from each range. The required minimum is 0.75 triples per game, 1.0 free throw, and 1.25 two-pointers. 

Giffey is the newest member of the club after making 35 of 68 his twos (51.5%), 27 of 56 shots from downtown (48.2%) and 26 of 28 free throws (92.9%). De Colo enjoyed his record eighth 50-40-90 season; he shot 81 for 154 on two-pointers (52.6%), 46 for 112 on threes (41.1%) and 100 for 109 from the foul line (91.7%). 

De Colo saw his run of seven consecutive 50-40-90 seasons ended last season when injuries hampered him and he made just 31.6% of his threes and 87.1% of his free throws. He bounced back in style this season. De Colo is one of just five players in EuroLeague history with multiple 50-40-90 seasons. Sarunas Jasikevicius, Trajan Langdon and Luigi Datome each did so twice and Jaycee Carroll three times.  

There was nearly a third member of the club this season as FC Barcelona’s [Mike Tobey](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-tobey/008966/) made the required amount of twos (45 of 62, 72.6%) and threes (28 of 68, 41.2%), but did not attempt enough free throws (8 for 8, 100%) to qualify. 

Even though shooting accuracy has been on the rise in recent seasons, no player made the cut in 2021-22. The season before featured eight 50-40-90 shooters.

His age and the recurrent injuries that have plagued his career over the last decade do not allow him to be a centerpiece of a team anymore. The start of the season did not look too good for Rudy, he did not make his debut until Round 15 due to an injury and after that, he even missed a few more games. Despite that, he averaged more than 17 minutes on court in 20 EuroLeague appearances this season - off the bench, of course - to average 4.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists. During the regular season he never scored in double digits, while in Game 2 of the playoffs against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, he exploded for 16 points in less than 19 minutes, including 4-of-6 shooting on threes.

At the Final Four, Rudy stayed really close to his season numbers. He scored 2 points against FC Barcelona in the semifinal and then 3, plus 2 rebounds and 2 assists, against Olympiacos Piraeus in the championship game but it was still a crucial contribution as Los Blancos won the game by a single point. It was Rudy's third EuroLeague crown.

Together with the two Sergios - Llull and Rodriguez, Rudy has experienced the most memorable moments of his career - both at Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. It is an older generation of players that is surely seeing some of their last seasons as top-level pros. In 12 EuroLeague seasons with Real since 2011, Rudy has played a total of 120 games and scored 2,658 points. At this point, it remains to be seen whether Rudy will be back for another dance in 2023-24, but he has undoubtedly left a mark on the EuroLeague history books and will always remain a player for the ages.
