LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne slipped to a fifth consecutive defeat by losing a French League derby 75-84 at home to AS Monaco on Thursday night and turnovers were one of the main reasons why.
Turnovers killed ASVEL's hopes
TJ Parker’s team consistently wasted possessions throughout the game, ending up with 21 turnovers which were converted into 18 points by Monaco – double the amount of the winning margin.
The ball-losing disease spread throughout the team, with 10 of the 11 players who stepped on the floor for ASVEL committing at least one turnover. The only player exempt was Zaccharie Risacher, who spent just 3 minutes on the court in the game.

It was a wasted opportunity for ASVEL, which actually had much better field goal shooting percentages than the winning team; the hosts made 17 of 28 two-pointers and 10 of 23 threes – good enough numbers to win many games.
But those turnovers – along with Monaco’s ability to grab offensive rebounds – meant that the visiting team took a total of 71 field goal attempts, 20 more than ASVEL’s 51. And that allowed Coach Sasa Obradovic’s men to claim a road victory despite shooting the ball with much lower accuracy, 45.1% field goal conversions against ASVEL’s 52.9%.
