Virtus Segafredo Bologna bolstered its frontcourt by inking center Ismael Bako, the club announced Wednesday. Bako (2.08 meters, 26 years old) arrives from BAXI Manresa, where he averaged 10.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 33 Spanish League games last season, in which he helped his team reach the BCL championship game. Before that, Bako played for LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne from 2019 to 2021, playing 51 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games and averaging 4.7 points on 56.2% two-point shooting and 2.9 rebounds.

Bako started his career in his native Belgium, playing for Stella Artois Leuven Bears, Topsportschool VBL, BAVI Vilvoorde Basket and Telenet Giants Antwerp. He helped ASVEL win the French double - league and cup titles - in 2021, and lifted the Belgian Cup trophy with Antwerp in 2019. Bako is also a member of the Belgian national team. Earlier on today, Virtus announced the arrival of another center, Jordan Mickey.
