Zalgiris Kaunas announced on Sunday that Edgaras Ulanovas and Lukas Lekavicius have agreed to terms on multi-year contract extensions.
Zalgiris re-signs franchise cornerstones Ulanovas, Lekavicus
Ulanovas (1.99 meters, 30 years old) signed a two-year deal with the club. He returned to Zalgiris last season after a year away and averaged 8.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 32 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games. It was his seventh season with Zalgiris, which he first joined in 2014. Ulanovas helped Zalgiris reach the EuroLeague Final Four in 2018 and the playoffs in 2019. He spent the 2020-21 season with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul.
Ulanovas led Zalgiris to six consecutive Lithuanian League titles from 2015 to 2020 and lifted the Lithuanian Cup trophy four times (2015, 2017, 2018, 2020). In addition to Zalgiris, Ulanovas has also played for Aisciai Kauno, Triobet Malsta Jonavos, Zalgiris-Sabonio mokykla Kaunas, Baltai Kaunas, Pieno Zvaigzdes Pasvalys and Neptunas Klaipeda. He is a member of the Lithuanian senior national team.
Lekavicius (1.80 meters, 28 years old) signed a three-year deal that will keep him with his boyhood club through 2025. He averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 assists in 32 EuroLeague contests last season, mostly off the bench. Lekavicius is a product of the Zalgiris youth system and he joined the club’s first team in 2014. He spent three seasons with Zalgiris before moving to Greece and playing for Panathinaikos Athens in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Lekavicius returned to Zalgiris in 2019 and has been a key member of the team ever since.
His trophy case includes four Lithuanian League championships and four Lithuanian Cups with Zalgiris as well as two Greek League titles and a Greek Cup with Panathinaikos. Lekavicius has been a long-time member of the Lithuanian national team and helped it win the silver medal at EuroBasket 2015.
