Anadolu Efes Istanbul has signed forward Achille Polonara on a one-plus-one-year deal, the club confirmed on Wednesday. Polonara (2.02 meters, 30 years old) joins from Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, with which he averaged 7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 30 games in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last season. Of his 30 appearances, just four were as a starter. He helped Fenerbahce win the Turkish League championship in 2022.

Polonara is going into his fourth campaign in the EuroLeague, having made his debut in the competition in 2019-20 whilst playing for Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. He also represented the club in the EuroLeague in the 2020-21 season prior to joining Fenerbahce last summer. Polonara's overall averages in the EuroLeague stand at 7.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists from 90 games in the competition, although only 33 of those have been starts. He has also played three seasons in the 7DAYS EuroCup, representing Pallacanestro Varese in 2013-14 before going on to play for Pallacanestro Reggiana in the competition in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns. Across 36 appearances in the EuroCup, Polonara has posted averages of 10 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
Polonara spent the first 10 years of his professional career playing in his native Italy, coming through at Teramo Basket before going on to join Varese, Reggiana and Dinamo Sassari. In 2019, Polonara joined Baskonia, which provided his first chance to play in the EuroLeague. He helped Baskonia win the Spanish League title in 2020. Polonara also won the Europe Cup with Sassari in 2019 and has been a member of the Italian national team, with which he played at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
