Real Madrid playmaker Facu Campazzo was chosen as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague MVP for November. Campazzo helped Real finish November with a 5-1 record, leading the competition last month in PIR (23.5), assists (8.3), two-point shooting (82.1%) and free throw accuracy (100% on 20 attempts).
In this exclusive interview, Campazzo says he values the award highly because it is based on the fact that his team is being successful. Real now rides atop the EuroLeague standings with a 11-1 record, two wins ahead of the pack.
"This means a lot because of that, because the team is winning," Campazzo said this week. "We are playing at a high level. We have a good dynamic, good chemistry."
Campazzo has been sensational all season long, dishing 5 or more assists in each and every EuroLeague game until now. Having great finishers inside like Walter Tavares and Vincent Poirier definitely helps, but his connection with a fellow Argentinean, forward Gabriel Deck, has always been special. Campazzo thinks it is all about them playing together for so many years, at all levels.
"Everything started in the national team and went through now, Real Madrid. And we went through a lot of things in the World Cup, a lot of tournaments in the national team, a lot of seasons in Real Madrid," Campazzo said. "And I just look in his eyes, I know what he's going to do, how he's going to move. So I have a great connection with him and with everybody also, but with him it's special because we know each other very well."
As the team player he is, Campazzo puts team goals first, and when you wear the Real jersey, that becomes very simple. "I think here in Real Madrid, everyone can play as a starter in any other team, but everyone is here to get that championship," Campazzo said. "We only want to be together to get the championship."
