Played college basketball at Moraine Valley Community College (2011–12) and Bowling Green State University (2012–15).

Selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round (37th overall) of the 2015 NBA Draft.

Made his professional debut with Philadelphia during the 2015–16 season and played there through the 2017–18 season.

In July 2018, traded to the Phoenix Suns and played there for the 2018–19 season.

Signed with the Sacramento Kings for the 2019–20 season and remained there through the 2022–23 season.

In July 2023, traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

In February 2024, traded to the Washington Wizards and remained there for the 2024–25 season.

Moved to Greece, signed with Panathinaikos for the 2025–26 season.
