Anadolu Efes Istanbul announced on Sunday that head coach Ergin Ataman has been hospitalized with pneumonia. Ataman, who led Efes to the last two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague titles, was diagnosed on Friday after having suffered an upper respiratory tract infection earlier in the week as the team hosted home games against Real Madrid and Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Ataman was replaced on the team's bench for a domestic game on Sunday by assistant coach Yakup Sekizkok. The club's statement says that Ataman's condition has progressed positively since Friday and will be reevaluated on Tuesday to determine whether he can coach the team's EuroLeague road game against ALBA Berlin on Thursday of the coming week.
Euroleague Basketball wishes Coach Ataman a speedy recovery.
