AS Monaco took care of business in the French Derby against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, winning 87-75 and leading by double digits for the majority of the night. The hosts' advantage swelled to as many as 15 points against an ASVEL side playing without its best player, Nando De Colo.
"I don't feel like we played our best," Monaco guard Jordan Loyd admitted after the game. "[But] a win is a win; you've always got to be happy with a win."
Loyd paced his team with 16 points, as he was one of six Monaco scorers in double figures.
The visitors bothered Monaco, particularly on the interior as it went 24-of-38 (63.2%) on two-pointers. Yet, Monaco exploited ASVEL's 7-of-26 three-point shooting and found ways to get to the foul line.
Monaco was 26-of-35 on free throws for the game, including 9-of-12 in the fourth quarter from the charity stripe. ASVEL had no fouls to give just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, and Monaco used that to its advantage by keeping control of the game and closing it out.
