October 15, 2024 — Today, Motorola and Euroleague Basketball proudly announce a new phase of their agreement through the launch of the joint ‘Bouncing For Good’ initiative. A project that, in line with Euroleague Basketball and Motorola’s ESG strategies – and with the help of Euroleague Basketball’s clubs and the One Team program – will organize multiple workshops and donate basketballs to schools and social entities around Europe, driving real social impact within local communities.

Motorola and Euroleague Basketball’s One Team program to promote sportsmanship and life values through basketball 

October 15, 2024 — Today, Motorola and Euroleague Basketball proudly announce a new phase of their agreement through the launch of the joint ‘Bouncing For Good’ initiative. A project that, in line with Euroleague Basketball and Motorola’s ESG strategies – and with the help of Euroleague Basketball’s clubs and the One Team program – will organize multiple workshops and donate basketballs to schools and social entities around Europe, driving real social impact within local communities.

Each participating club will develop a specific project led by its One Team coach, together with a local school or social entity, that is tailored to its community’s needs. As part of Motorola and Euroleague Basketball’s joint partnership, this initiative is designed to help bring basketball closer to schools and children in the community, encouraging art, sports values, and creativity through interactive workshops.

For the moment, five partnered clubs in association with schools and social entities across Poland, Italy, Greece, Spain and France will participate in the program, starting with Poland on October 15, 2024. Each school or social entity will participate in a workshop on sports values, led by the club’s One Team coaches, where children will be encouraged to get creative by painting a mural of the 'perfect basketball’, using their learnings on colors and associating them to sports and life values. A local artist will then capture the mural and replicate it on a real basketball.

After the workshop, Euroleague Basketball’s professional players will visit each group to present the specially painted basketball as a prize for the entity. In addition, the school or social entity will receive a signed team jersey to keep as a trophy, along with Euroleague One Team and Motorola-branded T-shirts, in addition to over 300 basketballs for the children to enjoy.

Jakub Schenk, One Team Ambassador from Trefl Sopot, will be the first player to participate in this initiative, and more from the other teams will be announced soon.

Motorola devices will play a central role throughout the workshops, offering the children a range of educational and engaging activities put on by the One Team coaches. They will also get the chance to connect with their basketball heroes during a live "Dream Call" with the participating players and connect in interactive group quizzes on Motorola phones, enhancing both learning and excitement.

Additionally, students will participate in other fun and enriching activities such as assembling puzzles featuring the images of the ambassadors, creating an interactive and enjoyable experience or conducting interviews with their coaches/teachers as they act as journalists for one day while capturing their insights on the importance of the initiative, with Motorola devices playing a supporting role in the educational activities.

For the first time in his 21-year coaching career, Pablo Laso is back where he made his name as a player – at his hometown club, Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.


Pablo Laso: ‘My expectations at Baskonia are high’

It was just a matter of time. Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, [Pablo Laso](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/baskonia-vitoria-gasteiz/bas/laso-pablo/) played for Baskonia for over a decade way before he started an even more successful career as a head coach.

When he had the opportunity to come back home this summer, Coach Laso did not hesitate and [signed a three-year contract with Baskonia](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/baskonia-appoints-pablo-laso-as-head-coach/). He believes it is great to be back but at the same time, there is no one more self-demanding than him when it comes to being successful with the club he grew up with.

"Coming back to your home city, for sure, it's a great feeling,” Laso says in a feature interview. “It's an important job I wouldn't even dream about, but at the same time, I see the team, I see the club and I see the fan base and everything with a lot of expectations about it.

"We are young, we are athletic, we are very hungry. We are going to see surprises from a lot of our players. My expectations are high, but at the same time, I have to be the first one saying, 'Hey, we're playing against great teams.’"

Everyone has welcomed Laso with open arms, especially the most important players in last season's squad. "He likes to joke around, likes to mess around. But when we get on the court, he's very serious and very about us doing what we need to do to be the best team we can," scoring ace [Markus Howard](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/markus-howard/011948/) says.

"I was always thinking, 'That's a guy that I'd love to play for.' I didn't know if it would ever happen, but when I saw that he came here, I was very, very excited," power forward [Chima Moneke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/chima-moneke/012201/) adds.

Laso knows Baskonia's fan base better than most and believes that the team won't lack his trademark character, night in and night out. 

"We are going to try to be competitive every night. We are going to be ready every night," Laso proclaims. "And this is something that I promise to the fan base because for me, it's very important that we show from the beginning that we are ready."

The team’s trajectory brought Bourg all the way to the all-French ultimate best-of-three showdown against Paris Basketball, where Regular Season and Finals MVP [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/tj-shorts/012608/) took over.

Paris Basketball guard TJ Shorts has taken to the EuroLeague like a duck to water in his first two games in the competition.

TJ Shorts is showing he means business in the EuroLeague

“Of course I believe I can play at the highest level, which is the EuroLeague. If you ask me if I’m a EuroLeague player, I definitely believe that and I know in the future my time is coming.”

That’s what Paris Basketball guard [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) told Eurohoops in January 2024. Back then, he wasn’t a EuroLeague player and was only speaking in semantic terms. Shorts had every right to feel that way and the actual game to back up his claims.

Paris Basketball was rolling over the competition in the BKT EuroCup behind Shorts’s leadership on the floor. The French side was looking so unstoppable that winning the title and with it the ticket to the 2024-25 EuroLeague seemed to be just a formality, waiting to be stamped and sealed.

A few months later, that is pretty much what happened. [Paris won the EuroCup](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/game-center-paris-aims-for-the-eurocup-trophy-on-bourgs-court/), [Shorts added the EuroCup Finals MVP award](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/eurocup-finals-mvp-tj-shorts-paris-basketball/) to his trophy case next to the EuroCup MVP he had already claimed and was EuroLeague-bound, together with his club.

The 27-year-old has looked right at home in Europe's premier club basketball competition

Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul overpowered ratiopharm Ulm and its young stars 107-74 on Monday night as it set club EuroCup records for most points scored in a game and in a half, the largest margin of victory and two-point shooting accuracy, among others. 

Besiktas relied on its 'tough' defense in record offensive onslaught 

Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul [overpowered ratiopharm Ulm and its young stars 107-74](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/ec2425-rs4-report-bes-ulm/) on Monday night as it set club BKT EuroCup records for most points scored in a game and in a half, the largest margin of victory and two-point shooting accuracy, among others. But the root of all those numbers was the team’s toughness on defense.

“I want to congratulate my players because we were serious from the first second till the last one,” Besiktas head coach Dusan Alimpijevic said after the game. “It was offensively very good but I have to say that all this confidence came from great defense.”

Not only was his team serious from the first second, but they essentially controlled the game from the first second.

Besiktas puts on a defensive clinic against Ulm

Well, almost the first second. Ulm, in fact, controlled the opening tip. But then the Besiktas defense forced a turnover. Even though Besiktas didn’t turn its first possession into points, [Dustin Sleva](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/dustin-sleva/011927/)’s aggressiveness showed as Besiktas corralled 2 offensive rebounds. Ulm’s [Isaiah Roby](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/isaiah-roby-/013291/) seemed to shift the momentum the other way with a steal and teenage star [Ben Saraf](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/ben-saraf/011437/) was coasting in for a layup when [Kerem Konan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/kerem-konan/011379/) flew in for a block.

That’s when [Kyle Allman](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/kyle-allman/011924/) drained a three for the game’s first points. Before long, it was 7-0 and the hosts never let up. A 19-0 run later in the quarter led to Besiktas sitting pretty at 31-9 after 10 minutes.

The rout was on and both teams knew it.

“The first quarter was a disaster and we never really recovered from it. That was obvious,” Ulm’s head coach Ty Harrelson said.

The 22-point lead after 10 minutes was tied for the sixth largest by any club in EuroCup history. The 33-point halftime difference was tied for the third-most in competition history. And it was only the seventh time a team led by at least 40 points through three quarters.

At halftime, Allman listed what his team had to do to secure the win: “Keep being physical, keep them out of the paint, stop them from getting second chance points and keep pushing the tempo.”

Besiktas checked those boxes. It was physical throughout and allowed only 7 second-chance points in the second half (after giving up 4 in the first half). And the team kept the pace by scoring 28 third-quarter points before easing up in the fourth.

Less than a week ago, Besiktas was on the other end of a beatdown in losing 87-101 against Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv. And the week before the team lost by 21 against Bahcesehir College Istanbul.

Sleva, who shined with 15 points on near-perfect shooting and 7 rebounds, explained what the team took from those losses. “Dusan \[Alimpijevic\] challenged us earlier in the season, we started off a little bit slow, but he challenged all of us to play tough, to play harder… Tonight shots were falling and we were playing tough.”

Besiktas’ toughness might have been enough to win the game. But all those shots falling is what turned it into a blowout. The team made 22 of 31 two-pointers and the 71.0% accuracy was the best in club history. Its 15 triples tied for the second most ever for Besiktas and its 53.3% shooting from deep was the best by any team in the EuroCup this season.

“We fought as a team, everybody on the court. All 10, 12 of us,” Sleva added.

Indeed, almost everyone contributed. Eight players scored at least 9 points. Seven players had steals. And a message was sent that Besiktas is a dangerous team that can play at both ends of the floor.

Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul [made quite the splash](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/boban-marjanovic-returns-to-europe-with-fenerbahce-beko/) by signing [Boban Marjanovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/boban-marjanovic/lmg/) in mid-September, and it’s fair to say that he has enjoyed his first few weeks as a member of the Turkish club.

During a feature interview, the Serbian center stresses that he still feels at the top of his game, even at 36.

“I feel amazing, I feel good. Basketball is our lives, our love,” Marjanovic says.

After spending the last nine years in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, Marjanovic is impressed by what he has found at Fenerbahce.

“It’s an NBA organization, but in Europe,” he says. “One of the best in Europe.”

His teammates are also happy to have him on board, as [Wade Baldwin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/wade-baldwin-iv/009863/) explains: “\[When\] we found out Boban was coming to Fenerbahce, I jumped out of my seat and gave Scottie Wilbekin a high-five. Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul blasted ratiopharm Ulm 107-74 in a rare Monday contest at Besiktas Fibabanka Sports Complex. The winners led from tip to buzzer while establishing several club records, including most points scored and largest margin of victory. The result lifted Besiktas’s record to 2-2 in Group A and handed Ulm its first loss.

Kyle Allman led six Besiktas scorers in double figures with 16 points and Jonah Mathews and Dustin Sleva added 15 apiece. Kelan Martin had 12 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting, Yigit Arslan had 12 on 4-of-8 shooting from deep, Conor Morgan netted 11 and Derek Needham dished 8 assists. Ulm’s top performers were its teenage stars as Noa Essengue scored a game-high 19 points and Ben Saraf tallied 16 points, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Besiktas's aggressiveness resulted in a forced turnover, an offensive rebound and a blocked shot all in the first minute. The hosts scored the game’s first 7 points before Phillipp Herkenhoff got Ulm on the scoreboard. Allman heated up with free throws and a contested three-pointer to keep Besiktas cruising at 12-5. Allman made it a double-digit lead with a three-point play and Sleva continued his stellar defense by drawing an offensive foul. Mathews’s jumper that made it 19-7 midway through the opening quarter and prompted an Ulm timeout. Berk Ugurlu, Sleva and Martin kept pouring it on as Besiktas scored 19 straight points for a commanding 31-7 lead. Herkenhoff had the last word in the quarter with a bucket for Ulm.

Besiktas added to the lead as another three by Martin made it 39-12. Layups by Thomas Klepeisz and Saraf gave Ulm some hope. The margin continued to grow as free throws by Mathews and Needham put the hosts up by 30. It was 58-22 after triples by Mathews, Morgan and Ugurlu. Threes by Nelson Weidemann and Justinian Jessup only narrowed the gap to 61-28 at the break.

Little changed after the break with threes by Needham and Allman making it 69-32. Sleva pushed the difference to 39. Essengue had a few strong minutes for Ulm and Saraf continued to leave a mark, but there were no signs of an Ulm comeback. Threes by Yigit Arslan and Martin saw the lead swell again. Steals and slams by Ugurlu and Morgan made it a 42-point difference. Klepeisz had the final basket of the third quarter to make it 89-49.

The lead peaked on a basket by Sleva that made it 96-52 in the third minute of the fourth quarter. Mathews had the honor of scoring Besiktas's 100th point and in the penultimate minute, Sleva’s three-point play established a new club record with 104 points as the hosts finished off the impressive win.

Euroleague Basketball has announced the following disciplinary sanctions pertaining to incidents that occurred in Round 2 of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season.

Round 2 disciplinary sanctions

- Mr. Tarik Biberovic, a player of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, has been sanctioned with a one-game suspension and a fine of €5,000 for attempted physical aggression against another individual, during the game between Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, under 27.2.e) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
- Mr. Elijah Bryant, a player of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, has been sanctioned with a one-game suspension and a fine of €10,000 for attempted physical aggression against another individual, during the game between Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul under 27.2.e) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
- Mr. Sertac Komsuoglu, an individual related to Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, has been sanctioned with a fine of €4,000 for actions that represent a that represent a lack of respect towards the referees, during the game between Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul under 27.2.b) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.

Bold predictions, Rounds 3-4: How many surprises will we see?

It's time for the first double-round week of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, with Round 3 taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday before Round 4 comes around on Thursday and Friday. 

Before the action gets underway, the [Euroleague.net](http://Euroleague.net) experts have each come up with one bold prediction heading into this double-round week.

### ASVEL to win two more this week

Last week, I guessed my bold prediction correctly as ASVEL grabbed its first victory, so I am going to double down on that and predict that the team will get two more victories this week. ASVEL has plenty of experienced players like [David Lighty](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/david-lighty/003526/), [Joffrey Lauvergne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/joffrey-lauvergne/004194/) and [Nando De Colo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/nando-de-colo/002100/) who are ready to lead their team to a road victory against ALBA Berlin. De Colo has fond memories of Uber Arena, where he earned 2016 Final Four MVP honors while leading CSKA Moscow to the EuroLeague title, his first of two continental crowns won with that team. 

That victory should give ASVEL even more momentum, and a big crowd should be expected at LDLC Arena to see Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and former swingman [Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/timothe-luwawu-cabarrot/012080/) in town. ASVEL can match Baskonia's physicality while [Neal Sako](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/neal-sako/010545/) and [Theo Maledon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/theo-maledon/007027/) have been really solid until now. If you ask me, things look good for Pierre Poupet's team! Fun fact: Coach Poupet played with Baskonia star [Chima Moneke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/chima-moneke/012201/) at Denain ASC Voltaire in the French second division back in the 2018-19 campaign.

### Olympiacos to catch fire this week

When Georgios Bartzokas’ Olympiacos side is clicking, it is like listening to Mozart, Beethoven or Bach – an experience you don’t want to miss. Slowly but surely, I think that the Reds are on the right track towards finding the right tune once again, aided particularly by the re-signing of star forward [Sasha Vezenkov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/sasha-vezenkov/003469/). 

Fellow arrival [Evan Fournier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/evan-fournier/013380/) is also starting to find his groove, and I think Olympiacos will make a splash this week, swatting aside EA7 Emporio Armani Milan at SEF before going on the road and defeating Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Coach Bartzokas is slowly getting more of his players back from injury, too, making Olympiacos an even greater force.

### Two undefeated teams will remain after Round 4

We enter Round 3 with four teams boasting 2-0 records. They are defending champion Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, AS Monaco, Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade. That list will drop to three almost as soon as the week’s games start, since Fenerbahce hosts Zvezda on Tuesday night. I predict a Fenerbahce victory… followed by a triumph for the Greens at Paris Basketball later that evening. On Wednesday, Monaco visits FC Barcelona and I forecast a road win there.

That gives us three teams with perfect record when Round 4 begins. First, Fener heads to the German capital where it should finish the evening as the first team to four wins. Panathinaikos will face its first stiff test of the season at Real Madrid in a rematch of last season’s championship game. With a fresh [Facu Campazzo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/facundo-campazzo/005928/) (after he serves a one-game ban in Round 3), *Los Blancos* will snare a statement win at Wizink Center. And on Friday, Monaco holds off Virtus Segafredo Bologna to join Fenerbahce as the only undefeated team through four games.  

### Cordinier to keep on rolling

After the first two rounds of the regular season, the man atop of the scoring charts is Virtus' [Isaia Cordinier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/isaia-cordinier/009549/), who scored 16 points in a Round 1 loss against Anadolu Efes Istanbul and 23 points in a Round 2 defeat at LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.

Closest to Cordiner's average of 19.5 points is his countryman [Mathias Lessort](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mathias-lessort/003842/) (18.0 ppg.), followed by Efes center [Dan Oturu](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dan-oturu/012788/) (17.5 ppg.), then last year's second-best scorer, [Wade Baldwin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/wade-baldwin-iv/009863/) (17.0), and five players posting 16.5 points: [Kendrick Nunn](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/kendrick-nunn/012774/), [Isaiah Canaan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/isaiah-canaan/010612/), [Shabazz Napier](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/shabazz-napier/011224/), [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) and [Tyrique Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/tyrique-jones/011981/). 

After two rounds, it means that Cordnier has scored just three total points more than Lessort, four more than Oturu or five more than Baldwin. So the margins are small, and with two rounds on slate this week, there will be many changes. However, I think Cordinier remains hot and continues to be one of Virtus' go-to guys, leaving him as the EuroLeague's top scorer once Round 4 ends on Friday.
