The French maestro returns for a second stint in Villeurbanne
ASVEL adds artistry by signing Thomas Heurtel

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne signed point guard Thomas Heurtel for the 2025-26 season, the club announced on Thursday. The move marks a return to France for the experienced floor general, who last played for Leyma Coruña in Spain.
Heurtel (1.89 meters, 36 years old) split the past season between the Shenzhen Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association and Coruña. He averaged 18.2 points on 45.0% three-point shooting and 8.5 assists per game with Shenzhen and then tallied 12.9 points and 9.0 assists in the Spanish League.
A native of Montpellier, France, Heurtel has logged over 250 career appearances in the EuroLeague with Baskonia Vitoria-Gastiez, Anadolu Efes Istanbul, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. He enters the season ranked eighth in EuroLeague history with 1,340 assists and fourth all-time with 5.3 assists per game.
With the move, Heurtel returns for a second run with ASVEL after finishing the 2020-21 season with the club. He made his professional debut with fellow French side EV Pau-Orthez in 2007 and has also played for Strasbourg in France, Alicante in Spain and Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia. His trophy case includes league championships in France and Spain and national cups in France, Spain and Turkiye. A long-time member of the French national team, Heurtel won gold with France at EuroBasket 2013, silver at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and EuroBasket 2022, and bronze at the 2014 Basketball World Cup.
