Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz announced the signing of Joan Penarroya as its new head coach on a two-year deal.
Baskonia hands reins to Coach Penarroya

Penarroya, 53, arrives from Valencia Basket, which he led to the 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals last season. He replaces Neven Spahija, who parted ways with Baskonia a week earlier. Penarroya had joined Valencia from San Pablo Burgos, where he spent the previous two campaigns. He guided Burgos to back-to-back Basketball Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021. Burgos also lifted the Intercontinental Cup in 2021 and made it to the Spanish League semifinals in 2020.
A former player, Penarroya started his coaching career with CB Olesa, and also spent time with CB Navas, MoraBanc Andorra and Basquet Manresa. He helped Andorra win the Spanish third division title in 2012 and won the Spanish second division in 2014 to guide the team back to the Spanish elite. Penarroya coached Andorra in the 2017-18 7DAYS EuroCup campaign, which was his eighth consecutive season with the club. Penarroya is set to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with Baskonia next season.
