Is Panathinaikos Athens about to land the big fish that will turn things around for the Greens? The club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos more than hinted as such by releasing a photo of him and two-time Turkish Airlines EuroLeague winning coach Ergin Ataman via his Instagram Story over the weekend with the word “welcome" printed across the bottom. Underneath that, in Greek, it says "Ataman has signed".
Ataman is still under contract at Anadolu Efes Istanbul through the end of the season, but will be free to join the club of his choice once the season ends. It certainly seems that the flirtation between Giannakopoulos and Ataman is mutual. Will we see Ataman storming the sidelines in Athens next season? Only time will tell.
