The Spaniard led Los Blancos to the 2023 EuroLeague title
Real Madrid parts ways with coach Chus Mateo

After three years at the helm, Chus Mateo has been relieved of his duties as Real Madrid head coach.
The 56-year-old had an 81-39 record with Real Madrid in the EuroLeague and guided the team to its 11th EuroLeague championship in 2023.
Most recently, Mateo led Los Blancos to a second Spanish League title in a row (2023-24; 2024-25), while he also lifted the Spanish Cup (2023-24) and two Spanish Super Cups (2021-22; 2022-23) during his time in charge. He was the 2023-24 EuroLeague Coach of the Year.
Mateo took the reins from Pablo Laso on a full-time basis in the summer of 2022, having stepped in for Laso due to health problems in the latter part of the 2021-22 campaign. During his time as interim head coach, he helped the Spanish giant secure the 2021-22 Spanish League crown, which proved crucial in him getting the full-time job.
Real Madrid reached the EuroLeague Championship Game in each of Mateo’s first two seasons as head coach before falling in the playoffs last season.
