U18 Mega Mozzart Belgrade grabbed its second victory in two games at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Belgrade as it defeated debutant U18 Lietkabelis Panevezys 87-64 in Group B.

Mega, which finished first in the ANGT Belgrade in 2019 and 2021, pulled away for good with an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter for a 2-0 mark. Asim Djulovic led the way with 28 points and 8 rebounds and Aleksa Milenkovic tallied 17 points and 6 rebounds. Rokas Jocys poured in 30 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists for an index rating of 38 for Lietkabelis, which fell to 0-2 in the group.

Lietkabelis scored the first points of the game but then went 3 minutes without a basket and five points from Milenkovic put Mega ahead 7-3. Jocys twice put Lietkabelis back ahead and his three-point play knotted the game 18-18 after 10 minutes. Daryl Doualla and Jocys both knocked down triples to push Lietkabelis in front and it was 28-29. Mega finally put together some defensive stops and Djulovic scored six points in a 12-2 spur to lead 40-31 with the score being 40-33 at the break.

Milenko and Djulovic combined to lead a 10-2 surge early in the second half to open a 52-39 advantage. Jocys and Nojus Lebskas both hit three-pointers and Doualla cut the deficit to 58-57. Mega finished the third quarter with the final five points to lead 63-57 after 30 minutes. Jocys scored to make it 68-60 a minute into the fourth quarter but he went down with an injury. Jocys was out of the game 4 minutes and Mega reeled off 11 straight points to push the advantage to 79-60. Lietkabelis could not get closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

Zinedin Mulic poured in 22 points, Luka Krajnovic collected 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Ilija Milijasevic picked up 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. The victory was also the first as a coach for Vassilis Spanoulis, who is coaching the NGB team. ASVEL dropped to 1-1 despite Killian Malwaya scoring 19 points, Francois Wibaut hitting for 17 and Zaccharie Risarcher, Yaacov Noam and Kymany Houinsou all chipping in 14 points.

U18 Valencia Basket collected its first victory of the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Belgrade by knocking off U18 Partizan NIS Belgrade 82-105 and will play for fifth place. Sergio De Larrea poured in 31 points to go with 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for an index rating of 41 while Pablo Luengo scored 17 points and Lucas Mari added 16 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals and 2 blocks for Valencia, which finished Group A play with a 1-2 record. Partizan, which finished first in the ANGT Belgrade in 2020, will play for seventh place after finishing round robin play with a 0-3 record. Zvezda took control of the game with a 0-15 third quarter run for a 3-0 record. Vladimir Pavlovic led the way with 14 points and 6 assists and Nikola Topic scored 13 points for the winners, who saw all 11 players who played score. Tofas finished group stage with a 2-1 record - including its first two victories in its ANGT history. Berke Buyuktuncel, Kerem Konan and Arda Konuk all tallied 10 points in the loss.

NGB, which is making its debut in this event, reeled off 13 straight fourth quarter points to finish group play with a 2-1 record. David Pavin and Zinedin Mulic both scored 18 points pace five NGB players in double figures. Luka Krajnovic had 14 points and 7 assists, Filip Jovic picked up 13 points and Samet Yigitoglu chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. Tournament debutant Lietkabelis dropped to 0-3 and will face off against U18 Partizan NIS Belgrade for 7th place on Sunday. In the final game of Saturday's slate, U18 ASVEL Villeurbanne secured its spot in the first place game with a breathtaking 88-52 victory over U18 Mega Mozzart Belgrade 88-52. ASVEL needed to win by at least 13 points to finish atop a three-way tiebreaker in Group B with Mega and U18 Next Generation Team Belgrade also at 2-1. ASVEL scored the first 18 points of the fourth quarter to get the job done. Killian Malwaya led all scorers with 26 points while Yaacov Noam had 15 points, Romain Parmentelot collected 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals and Kymany Houinsou tallied 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Mega, which had won the ANGT Belgrade in 2019 and 2021, could not get enough scoring as Asim Djulovic was the only player in double figures with 15 points.

Kerem Konan led the winners with 18 points while Ege Demir collected 17 points and 5 blocks. Baran Yurdusen tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds and Berke Buyuktuncel contributed 12 points to get Tofas to a 2-0 mark. Sergio De Larrea flirted with a triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for Valencia, which lost its second straight for a 0-2 record. Pablo Navarro added 17 points in the loss.

The game was tight for the whole first quarter, with Demir scoring 6 points for Tofas and De Larrea picking up 7 at the other end. And a Navarro three-point play had Valencia up 18-14. Tofas finished the first quarter with the final 6 points to lead 18-20 after 10 minutes. Pablo Luengo and De Larrea both hit triples and Valencia was back ahead 25-23. The lead switched hands three times, with Yurdusen converting a three-point play before Buyuktuncel made it 31-36. Tofas went into the break ahead 35-39.

Tofas had the better start to the second half and Buyuktuncel had 5 points as the cushion grew to double figures 40-50. And a Konan three-pointer made it 44-55 before the score was 51-59 after 30 minutes. Tofas hit the first 4 points of the final frame and Valencia needed nearly 3 minutes to finally score. The Turkish side led 53-65 with 6 minutes left but then failed to execute offensively, getting just 2 free throws while 2 scores from Navarro made it 63-67. Demir answered with a big putback dunk only to see Navarro convert a four-point play and it was 67-69 with a minute to play. Konan hit two free throws and after a Valencia turnover, Buyuktuncel iced the game with a layup.

Group B’s other Day One winner was U18 ASVEL Villeurbanne.

Tofas, which had lost all of its eight games over the last two seasons, came back from 10 points down late in the third quarter with a 3-20 run. Baran Yurdusen scored 22 points to lead Tofas, while Berke Buyuktuncel and Ege Demir added 10 each. Partizan dropped to 0-1 as Marko Krstic's 22 points weren't enough.

NGB, making its competition debut, got 16 points from Filip Jovic while Samet Yigitoglu collected 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Vudragovic scored Zvezda's first 5 points and the game was tight until he hit 2 three-pointers in helping the home side open a 17-10 lead. It was 21-12 after 10 minutes. A 9-0 Zvezda spurt early in the second quarter increased the advantage to 30-16. Partizan's Stankovic scored 4 straight points to trim the gap to 33-23 and Mikic added 4 points to keep it there. Still, Zvezda was leading 45-33 at the break.

Topic and Ognjen Matovic both hit three-pointers for Zvezda to off-set 6 points from Stankovic as Partizan could not get back into the game. Momir Tonic knocked down a triple for Partizan and the gap was 53-42 but Zvezda had more weapons and led 65-46 after 30 minutes. Zvezda kept Partizan scoreless for the first 3 minutes of the fourth quarter and the cushion grew to 69-46. The host team never let up and cruised to the victory.

Lietkabelis, which was playing its first game in the competition, was paced by Rokas Jocys with 28 points and 6 rebounds. Daryl Doualla picked up 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals against his former team, ASVEL.

Lietkabelis scored the game's first 4 points and soon was up 15-16 thanks to 2 three-pointers from Jocys. ASVEL took over the game then, out-scoring the Lithuanian side 16-0 over the final 3:09 of the first quarter to lead 31-16 after 10 minutes. The run extended into the first 6 points of the second quarter as ASVEL surged ahead 37-16. Three-pointers from Houinsou and Felix De Almeida helped push the cushion to 30 points, 49-19. ASVEL went into the break ahead 53-24.

The third quarter really didn't see much change in the game. Jocys was the main man for Lietkabelis but there was no chance for a comeback. A pair of baskets by Risacher made the lead 63-32 and the French side was ahead 68-42 after 30 minutes. Lietkabelis managed to get the deficit to 20 points, at 76-56, with just less than 5 minutes to play, but ASVEL answered with the next 5 points and any comeback thoughts were done.

The game was even early on until Milenkovic scored eight points in a 3-13 run to put Mega ahead 9-19. NGB scored the last three points of the first quarter to make it 12-19 after 10 minutes. The selection team opened the second period with the first 4 points before Djulovic’s three-pointer after nearly 3 minutes. NGB four times pulled within two points only for Mega to have an answer each time, and Serbian side scored the final 10 points of the first half - including back-to-back three-pointers from Aleksandar Prokopic and Danilo Dozic - to lead 27-39 at the break.

NGB charged out of the locker room with a 13-0 run to take the lead 40-39. Mega did not score until Djulovic’s basket after more than 3 minutes. The lead changed hands four more times thanks to Yigitoglu for NGB and Djulovic and Melinkovic for Mega, which was leading 47-58 after a 0-12 spurt. And the margin was 55-67 after 30 minutes. The momentum continued in the fourth quarter and Mega allowed just two points in the first 4 minutes and opened a 57-74 cushion. NGB did not get closer than 13 points the rest of the game.

Defense was the name of the game at the beginning, as the score was just 4-4 after 5 minutes. Yurdusen moved to 6 points as Tofas led 4-8 after more than 7 minutes. Marko Tojagic hit a triple for Partizan but Abdullah Aksoy had 4 points and Buyuktuncel converted a four-point play for a 7-18 lead after 10 minutes. Partizan held Tofas scoreless for the first 2 minutes of the second quarter while a pair of triples by Krstic made it 16-20. Krstic added 4 points and Partizan took the lead 27-26 on a Tahmaz tip-in. And the Serbian side led 33-31 at halftime. 

 

Bodgan Zagradannin scored 7 points as Partizan extended the lead to 42-35. Tofas had cut the margin to 3 points but Partizan hit 7 straight points to open a double-digit lead 49-39, which was 49-41 after 30 minutes. A three-pointer by Krstic made it 52-42 but Tofas put together a 3-20 run to surge ahead 55-62. Partizan did not give up and pulled within 63-66 with 80 seconds left. Ege Demir answered with a big put-back dunk. Then, trailing 65-68 with 26 seconds remaining, Partizan turned the ball over on an inbounds play that soon left Tofas celebrating.

U18 Tofas Bursa collected the first victory of its history in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament by rallying to defeat U18 Partizan NIS Belgrade 66-72 in Group A of the ANGT Belgrade.
