ALBA grabbed its first EuroLeague win against Bayern

The odds were not on ALBA Berlin’s side before his Round 29 game against German archrival FC Bayern Munich. After all, Bayern had won all six of its previous games against ALBA in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, including two in overtime. In Round 7 of this current season, Bayern defeated ALBA 77-79, with Augustine Rubit and Andreas Obst each scoring 14 points.
Most of these games were decided in the last moments, however. When these two first faced each other in the EuroLeague, Bayern prevailed 76-77, and another three games have been decided by 6 points or less. The biggest margin Bayern had achieved against ALBA took place two seasons ago, when it beat ALBA 72-90 in Berlin.
Even this season, it has been tight whenever ALBA and Bayern have taken on one another in the German League, with both sides showing great balance. Finally, on Friday night, ALBA was able to make up for all the past disappointments by pulling out a victory on the last possession, which brought plenty of happiness to the players and head coach Israel Gonzalez.
“I was scared that we couldn’t reach the end [of the game] with fresh legs, but they were able to do it thanks to the heart they have," said Coach Gonzalez after the game. “I think it was a similar game to the last ones we had against them, decided in the last minutes. Tonight, were just better in the last moments.”
