The 'Manimal' steps into an injury rattled frontcourt
Panathinaikos signs Kenneth Faried to short-term deal

With its top three centers sidelined by injury, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens has found a temporary solution by signing Kenneth Faried to a short-term deal.
Faried (2.03 meters, 35 years old) arrives from the TSG GhostHawks from the Taiwanese League, where he posted 12 points and 12 rebounds in his debut. Faried returns for a second stint in the EuroLeague after averaging 2.3 points and 2.4 rebounds over seven games with CSKA Moscow during the 2021-22 campaign.
Nicknamed the "Manimal", Faried was one of the best rebounders in the NBA during his prime. He played seven seasons with the Denver Nuggets between 2011 and 2018 before splitting one season with the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets. He averaged 11.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in that time and ranked three times among the top 20 rebounders in the league. Faried also helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2014 Basketball World Cup.
In the years since, Faried has played in China, Russia, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Italy as well as the G League. Last season he led the Basketball Champions League in rebounding with 7.9 per game in addition to 9.9 points and 0.8 rebounds over 10 appearances for Reggio Emilia. Faried also averaged 8.4 points and was fifth in the Italian League with 7.2 rebounds over 19 games.
Faried could be expected to see minutes immediately with the Greens, who are without All-EuroLeague center Mathias Lessort, Richaun Holmes and Omer Yurtseven. At Panathinaikos, he will reunite with Juancho Hernangomez, who played alongside Faried for two seasons with the Nuggets.
