When Alec Peters joined Olympiacos Piraeus last summer, he could only hope that he was in for one of the best seasons in his career.
Aside from becoming acclimated superfast to Greece and finding his new home away from home the best option he could have hoped for, Peter and his Olympiacos teammates have been the most solid team in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague so far and sit a victory away from clinching first place for the regular season.
"This year, of all years, it's been unusually late for teams to punch and qualify for the playoffs," Peters says. "It's been super hard, game in and game out, to get those wins, and we're glad to finally have clinched."
According to Peters, there's little mystery to the success of the Reds. Their formula has a single secret behind it.
"We practice to, like, almost a detail that you would think is crazy," Peters says. "We practice to a point to where you say, 'OK, this is too repetitive. These guys keep doing the same thing over and over again.' "
This attention to detail and the fact that many of the players have been teammates for years have boosted Olympiacos to the status of front-runner and given the Reds home-court advantage in the upcoming playoffs.
And Peters does not seem to believe their momentum is going to slow down anytime soon.
"With our consistency, I don't think anybody is going to be able to beat us this year," Peter says. "We have the standard, we know what it takes, and we have a group of guys that are locked in and ready for that last part, that last battle."
