Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz added depth and energy to its backcourt by signing guard Rafa Villar to a three-year deal.
Villar (1.93 meters, 20 years old) arrives from ICG Forca Lleida, where he averaged 5.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 34 Spanish League games last season. He started his career with FC Barcelona and made his EuroLeague debut in the 2021-22 season. Villar mostly saw playing time with Barca's second team until he joined Lleida midway through the 2022-23 campaign.
He has also led the Spanish national team to gold medals at the 2022 U18 European Championships and the 2023 U19 World Cup. Villar also helped Lleida gain promotion to Spain's top league in 2024.
