Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv announced that is has appointed Oded Kattash as its next head coach. The sides penned a two-year contract. Kattash, 47, is a former star player and head coach at Maccabi. He returns to the sidelines after a season away. Kattash led Panathinaikos OPAP Athens to the Greek League and Cup double in 2020-21 after joining the Greens midway through that season.

Kattash had an illustrious playing career with boyhood club Maccabi Tel Aviv and Panathinaikos. He helped Panathinaikos win the EuroLeague in 2000 before a knee injury prematurely ended his playing career as Kattash was entering his prime at age 28. He began his coaching career in 2004 with Hapoel Galil Elyon and debuted as a EuroLeague coach in 2007 with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he went 6-3 before resigning. His career record in the EuroLeague is 11-14. Kattash has since coached Hapoel Galil Elyon, Hapoel Eilat, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem as well as Israel's national team. He won the Israeli League with Galil in 2010 and Israeli Cups with Jerusalem in 2019 and 2020.
"I think everyone who has experienced the great Thursdays in Yad Eliyahu, it's not something forgettable," Kattash told the club's website. "It's always there and I have no doubt it will be exciting. Let's face it, the team will have to make significant changes. There are a lot of exciting things that are coming. There will be a lot of interesting situations. It is impossible to share them at the moment, but there is a lot to look forward to in the near future".
