EA7 Emporio Armani Milan was on the ropes in its Round 4 showdown against FC Bayern Munich, down 51-42 early in the second half and without leading scorer Shavon Shields, who left the game with an injury. The Italian champs found a go-to guy in Nicolo Melli, who made sure his team had a chance to win it down the stretch.
Melli stepped up for Milan in Munich

Melli scored the final 7 points in a 2-15 run that put the visitors fully in charge, 53-57, and kept contributing at both ends. He ended up having a near-perfect performance against Bayern and Coach Andrea Trinchieri, who brought him to Brose Bamberg and coached him there for two seasons. Melli finished the game with 17 points and missed just one shot. He added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 block and 4 fouls drawn for a PIR of 29.
"Nik Melli today really took the team on his shoulders and carried us to come back when everything was going, let's say, downhill after the injury of Shavon [Shields]," Milan head coach Ettore Messina said after the game. "He really carried us to have an opportunity to win this game."

"We are at the beginning of the season and have to improve under many aspects but having character is something that you have or you don't have, and we have it," Melli said right after the game. "Now we have to build on it. The road is very, very long but it was a very important win against a very good team."
