Real Madrid locked up the anchor of its frontcourt by signing [Walter Tavares](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/walter-tavares/005791/) to a five-year contract extension. 

Tavares (2.20 meters, 32 years old) originally joined *Los Blancos* in 2017. Over their seven seasons together, he has been one of the most dominant players in the league. 

The Cape Verdean center has been named to the All-EuroLeague team in five of the six possible seasons – there were no awards issued after the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season – and won the EuroLeague Best Defender Trophy in three of those. 

He also led Real Madrid to five Final Four appearances, the 2018 and 2023 EuroLeague championships and was the Final Four MVP in the latter of those titles.

This season, Tavares averaged 9.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks over 34 games for a PIR of 14.9. He led the league in blocks and ranked sixth in rebounds on the season. 

He is the EuroLeague’s all-time leader with 424 blocked shots. Tavares also ranks fifth all-time in rebounds (1,614), sixth in two-point shooting (67.7%) and 18th in PIR (3,690).

Tavares was discovered as a teenager in his native Cape Verde and joined Gran Canaria in 2009. He spent six seasons there and with its affiliated teams and led Granca to the 2015 EuroCup Finals as a EuroCup First Team selection. 

'Sergeant Swat' then spent two seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers and with G League sides the Austin Spurs, Cleveland Charge, Bakersfield Jam and Raptors 905. 

He was chosen as the G League Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 before returning to Europe and signing with Real Madrid. Tavares has added four Spanish League championships and two Spanish Cups to his trophy case since he arrived in Madrid.

FC Bayern Munich announced on Friday that it has signed German big man Kevin Yebo for the next two seasons. Yebo (2.07 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Niners Chemnitz, where he averaged 15.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season. Yebo played in the youth system of SG Sechtem and then joined TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He also played for VfR Limburg, Team Ehingen Urspring, Hamburg Towers and Eisbaeren Bremerhaven. He will make his EuroLeague debut with Bayern.

For [Josh Nebo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/josh-nebo/011199/), it's been an interesting few weeks. The athletic center was able to obtain Slovenian citizenship on June 19, just 15 days ago, and then [completed his move to EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/milan-tabs-rebounding-leader-josh-nebo/) on June 24 after deciding to move on from Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv.

A few days later, it was confirmed that Mike Tobey would not be part of Slovenia's squad for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, Greece, freeing up Nebo to come in. He did not have a dream debut in Slovenia's colors, though, losing 92-108 to Croatia on Tuesday night, having scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Nebo was able to have more joy on Thursday night, however, as he posted a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double in a 78-104 win for Slovenia which guarantees the nation's spot in the semifinals against Greece. The 26-year-old was lethal from inside the paint, going 10 for 15 on two-pointers, while he also had 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block.

His performance was complimented by a star display from 2017-18 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague MVP [Luka Doncic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/luka-doncic/005929/), who had 36 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, good for a triple-double.

### Jantunen fires Finland into the semifinals

Paris Basketball forward [Mikael Jantunen](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/mikael-jantunen/012613/) inspired Finland to an 88-89 win over Poland on Thursday night, which secured Finland's spot in the semifinals and saw Poland's Olympic hopes come to an end. Finland led 0-2 and 2-4 in the opening stages of the game, then trailed until the final seconds, when Jantunen's team went 86-87 ahead on a three-pointer and then 88-89 up thanks to a pair of free throws.

Jantunen amassed 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a team-high 32:34 minutes. Joventut Badalona youngster Karim Lopez was one of Mexico's star performers as the North American country downed Côte d'Ivoire 81-92 on Thursday night. An Italy team featuring five EuroLeague players – Milan's Stefano Tonut and Giampaolo Ricci, Virtus Segafredo Bologna's Alessandro Pajola and Achille Polonara, and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul's Nicolo Melli – fell 80-69 to Puerto Rico in the early hours of Friday morning. However, despite the loss, Italy is still into the semifinals, where it will take on Lithuania.

Brazil knew that it needed to beat Cameroon or lose by no more than 14 points in order to reach the semifinals. The former Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers guard made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut in Round 7 and needed a few weeks to find his feet. Once he did, having his first breakout game in Round 11 by scoring 19 points at Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, there was no looking back.

From that point on, Nunn scored 10 points or more in all but two regular-season games and netted 20 or more eight times, giving him an average of 15.4 points per night as the Greens locked up the second seed entering the EuroLeague Playoffs.

Nunn had a slow start to the postseason by his lofty standards, scoring 8 points in Game 1 against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and then 10 in Game 2, but then the American showed everyone why he is such a gifted scorer. Through Games 3, 4 and 5, Nunn averaged 26.0 points – scoring 25, 27 and 26, respectively – to fire Panathinaikos to its first Final Four in 13 years.

 He didn’t stop there. In the semifinals, Nunn had 14 points – including 6 in the fourth quarter – to help Panathinaikos down Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 73-57 and set up a first championship game appearance since 2011. Then, in the title decider, Nunn posted 21 points, of which 8 came in the final period, to earn legend status and defeat Real Madrid to secure the Greens’ seventh star.

Nunn earned MVP of the Month honors for April/May and was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team, before winning his first EuroLeague championship. Not bad for a first season in Europe’s premier club basketball competition.

Last season, da Silva appeared in 37 EuroLeague games for Barcelona, averaging 5.1 points and 2.9 rebounds. It was his third season in the competition, having made his debut with ALBA Berlin in the 2021-22 campaign.

He started his professional basketball career with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. A year later with ALBA, da Silva helped the team win the German League and Cup double and he helped Barcelona with the Spanish League championship in 2023 and reach the EuroLeague Final Four that same year.

Juzenas (1.99 meters, 17 years old) split the previous season among Zalgiris’s mens teams in the lower divisions and it’s U-18 team. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists with Zalgiris-2 and 15.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists with Zalgiris-3.

Juzenas starred at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament qualifiers in Dubai where he led U-18 Zalgiris to the first-place game. In that game, he posted with 28 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for a PIR of 34, but his team fell to ratiopharm Ulm in overtime. For the tournament, Juzenas averaged 18.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals for an index rating of 23.0. He was second in scoring and PIR, first in rebounds and tied for second with 3.5 offensive rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team.

"Playing for Zalgiris Kaunas has been my dream since childhood. My father and I used to go to the Kaunas Sports Hall. Signing a contract with Kaunas means a lot to me," said Juzenas, who is currently preparing for the European U18 Championship this summer with the Lithuanian national team.

Jackson (1.91 meters, 34 years old) grew up with ASVEL and made his professional debut with the club. Last season, he averaged 5.3 points in 31 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games and 7.7 points in the French League regular season.

Jackson boasts six seasons in the EuroLeague with four different clubs. He first played in the EuroLeague with FC Barcelona in 2014. His best EuroLeague campaign came with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in 2018-19 when he averaged 9.8 points on 42.9% three-point shooting, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30 games. He also played one EuroLeague season for Unicaja Malaga. In total Jackson has scored 843 points in 122 career EuroLeague games.

Jackson has also played for Nanterre 92 and Rouen Basket in France, Estudiantes Madrid and Menorca in Spain and Guangdong Southern Tigers in China.

After leading Real Madrid to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Game in both of his seasons as the club’s head coach – including winning the crown in 2023 – Chus Mateo has re-signed for two more seasons at *Los Blancos*’ helm. 

Mateo, 55, was Pablo Laso's assistant at Real from 2014 to 2022, when he replaced Laso after the latter suffered a heart attack midway through the Spanish League finals. Mateo helped Real win the series and lift the Spanish League trophy and was soon after named head coach.

More than just a maser tactician, Mateo is beloved by his players and has fostered a family atmosphere at the club where the players lean on and play hard for each other. That was on display throughout the 2023-24 season as Mateo had the club in first place throughout the regular season. Real was the only team to sweep its playoff series. After defeating Olympiacos Piraeus in the semifinals, Real fell to Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens in the championship game.

Prior to the Final Four, Mateo was chosen as the 2023-24 Alexander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year. He also guided Real to the Spanish League and Cup double last season. Mateo had won six other Spanish championships and five Spanish Cups as Real's assistant coach. He previously served as head coach of Baloncesto Zaragoza, Unicaja Malaga and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada of Spain. Born in Madrid, Mateo coached his way through Real Madrid's junior teams and then served as an assistant coach on the senior squad to Sergio Scariolo, the late Javier Imbroda and Julio Lamas before Laso.

Fenerbahce, Nigel Hayes-Davis agree on extension through 2027

Coming off his best season yet, [Nigel Hayes-Davis ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nigel-hayes-davis/008962/)has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul for three more seasons. Hayes-Davis forward (2.03 meters, 29 years old) averaged 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 37 games to lead Fenerbahce to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four. He made history in Round 32 against ALBA Berlin when he became the first player in competition history to score 50 points. He was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team and led Fenerbahce to the Turkish League and Cup double.

Nigel Hayes-Davis set a new Turkish Airlines EuroLeague single-game scoring record by netting 50 points in Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul's 103-68 win against ALBA Berlin in Round 32 of the 2023-24 season.

Hayes-Davis started his professional basketball career with the Westchester Kings of the G-League. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings in the NBA, Raptors 905 of the G-League, Galatasaray Istanbul in Turkiye, Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania and FC Barcelona in Spain before joining Fenerbahce. He helped Zalgiris win back-to-back Lithuanian League and Cup doubles in 2020 and 2021 and also lifted the Spanish Cup trophy with Barca in 2022, reaching the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time in his career.
