Panathinaikos OPAP Athens has appointed Dejan Radonjic as its new head coach. The contract is for two seasons. Radonjic, 52, spent the last year and a half in charge of Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade. It was his second spell at the club. Last season saw Zvezda finish in 11th place in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with a record of 12-16, while Panathinaikos came in 13th with a record of 9-19. Radonjic led Zvezda to the ABA League and Serbian League titles in each of the last two seasons.

Radonjic began his coaching career back in 2006 after taking the reins at Buducnost Podgorica, where he stayed until April 2013. In that period, he also became the head coach of the Montenegrin national team, a role he held between 2008 and 2011. Radonjic left Buducnost in 2013 to coach Zvezda for the first time and stayed there until the end of the 2016-17 season. In 2018 he joined Bayern Munich, where he stayed until January 2020. Then, in December of that year, he returned to Zvezda for the second time.

"I want to thank the people of the team for the trust and support I have received, which means a lot to me. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I am sure that together we will do great things that are appropriate for Panathinaikos."
