Papagiannis marks milestone with career night

Georgios Papagiannis celebrated the milestone of 150 appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in Panathinaikos Athens’s 86-76 victory over FC Bayern Munich on Tuesday, and he certainly made sure the occasion was properly marked by delivering by far the best performance of his career.
The 25-year-old, who has spent his whole professional career with the Greens after first debuting in the competition in the 2015-16 season, got the scoreboard moving on his team’s first possession with a jump hook and that set the tone for a dominant first quarter.
Papagiannis continued to control the paint, including the highlight of a huge alley-oop connection with Paris Lee, and finished the opening quarter with 11 points on perfect 4-for-4 two-point and 1-of-1 three-point shooting, along with 3 rebounds and 2 blocked shots for a very impressive first-quarter PIR of 17.
He was then relatively quiet until the final period, stepping up when his team needed him the most. After Bayern went on a 0-10 run to reduce the deficit to 7 points, Papagiannis responded with a pair of three-pointers to ensure the visiting team’s comeback would not continue. Fittingly, he then ended the game in style with a mid-range strike on the final buzzer.
That took him to a career high of 24 points on perfect shooting – 7 of 7 from two-point range, 3 of 3 from long distance and 1 of 1 at the foul line – plus 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots for a new personal best PIR of 40.
