Sorkin led Maccabi's bench brigade in first road win

On a night when Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv's bench proved the difference in its come-from-behind 71-77 win over host AX Emporio Armani Milan, power forward Roman Sorkin had the answers both down the stretch and in explaining what it took for the visitors to take their first road win of the season.
Sorkin had 2 points and 1 rebound at halftime, but exploded for to score 12 more and pull 5 additional rebounds after the break to lead his team with a performance index rating of 21, which established his career high in two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons.
Sorkin's back-to-back baskets after Milan had pulled within 70-71 with 2 minutes left proved to be the game-breakers and gave him a total of 14 points. But it was his energy in helping Maccabi forge a 9-22 advantage in rebounds after the break that proved essential.
At the same time, he was part of the defensive effort that held Milan without a field goal through the first 6 minutes of the final quarter as Maccabi turned around what had been a 57-47 disadvantage with 13 minutes left in the game.
"I think we did a good job on their bigs, denying the ball, and on their guards on the pick-and-roll. I think we've been the aggressor today," Sorkin said afterward. "In an away game, sometimes you won't get the calls, so you need to bring some energy, and I'm happy we brought it."
Sorkin was part of a Maccabi bench brigade that totalled 47 points, or 61.1% of the total scoring for the winners. To his 14 points, Jarell Martin added 13, Bonzie Colson 10 and John DiBartolomeo 8, marking the first time this season that Maccabi's reserves scored more than 50% of its points in any game.
"Almost everyone who came on the bench came with the right attitude," head coach Oded Kattash added.
