The 2022-23 season will mark a start of a new era on the Asian side of Istanbul. After Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul missed the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs last season for the first time since 2015, the club brought in two-time EuroLeague champion Dimitris Itoudis to the bench and undertook a major revamp of its roster. It included departures of its biggest stars in Jan Vesely and Nando De Colo. However, the appointment of Itoudis, the return of former EuroLeague MVP Nemanja Bjelica, along with arrivals of EuroLeague stars Scottie Wilbekin and Nick Calathes, among others, has reset the bar very high for Fenerbahce.
BACKCOURT
The new-look Fenerbahce will have Nick Calathes, the point guard who has dished the most assists in EuroLeague history, running its offense. Calathes will have a bunch of scoring options around him on the perimeter. That includes combo-guard and fellow arrival Scottie Wilbekin, the man who has made the most threes in the competition since 2016, and scoring threat Carsen Edwards. Shooting guard Marko Guduric is also destined for a bigger role after proving he can carry the team last season. Swingman Sehmus Hazer and veteran playmaker Ismet Akpinar are valuable in their roles off the bench, as is the sharpshooting team captain, Melih Mahmutoglu.
