The start of the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season is now less than two months away and teams are continuing to make the final adjustments to their rosters ahead of what will be a thrilling campaign. Here are some of the most eye-catching deals from the first week of August.
The week in EuroLeague signings
Spanish national team forward Oriol Pauli is heading home after he signed a two-year deal with boyhood club FC Barcelona. Pauli played in the Barcelona youth categories and then for the club's second team from 2011 to 2014. From there he joined Gran Canaria and spent six seasons there and two more with MoraBanc Andorra. Now Pauli returns home, eager to make his mark with the Blaugrana.
Virtus gets younger and bigger
As Virtus Segafredo Bologna transitions from the 7DAYS EuroCup to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the team has made many roster moves to get deeper and stronger. This week saw head coach Sergio Scariolo get two more young talents to work with. Twenty-one-year-old center Gora Camara stands at 2.14 meters and returns to the Virtus family after three years of gaining experience elsewhere. Twenty-year-old power forward Leo Menalo also signed a long-term deal with Virtus. Both players are set to make their EuroLeague debuts this season.
Diez readies for EuroLeague return
Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz added an experienced weapon in Dani Diez, who has played in the EuroLeague championship and lifted the 7DAYS EuroCup crown. Diez did the former in 2014 with Real Madrid in the first of his three EuroLeague campaigns. His other EuroLeague seasons came with Unicaja Malaga, which is the team he won the EuroCup with in 2019. With such a resumé, Diez can be expected to play a big role for Baskonia this season.
