The teams of the 7DAYS EuroCup continue to work hard to build strong squads for the 2022-23 season. Here are some of the most-important signings from the past week.
The week in EuroCup signings
Cedevita filled its roster in a hurry
It was a busy week for Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, which kept three players and added two more. First, it reached an agreement with forward Edo Muric. A day later, Cedevita re-signed center Alen Omic, who ranks second all-time in the EuroCup in rebounds and PIR. Omic now has a good shot at leading the all-time charts in both categories. Cedevita also signed playmaker Lovro Gnjidic and reigning EuroCup champion Amar Alibegovic. Fun fact #1: Gnjidic's father, Boris, played the first-ever EuroCup season with Krka Novo Mesto in 2003. Fun fact #2: Alibegovic's father, Teo, also lifted a European trophy: the 1994-95 Korac Cup with ALBA Berlin. To end the week, Cedevita re-signed veteran swingman Zoran Dragic, who was a double-digit scored last season in the team's run to the quarterfinals. By week's end, Cedevita had 10 roster spots filled.
Reyer added three new faces
Umana Reyer Venice was really active last week, too, signing three players in a span of four days. Reyer strengthened its backcourt by inking playmaker Jayson Granger, who returns to the EuroCup for the first time in more than a decade. In the interim, he played over 200 EuroLeague games and won German and Spanish League titles with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and ALBA Berlin, respectively. Reyer also signed big man Amedeo Tessitori, who won the EuroCup title with Virtus Segafredo Bologna last season, and big man Matteo Chillo. With 11 players signed for the 2022-23 season, Reyer's roster is looking mighty solid already!
Big man stays, big man goes
Among the frontcourt moves that stood out in the last week, two major ones fell over the weekend. First, last season's EuroCup Rising Star Trophy winner, Khalifa Diop, decided to re-sign with Gran Canaria for a third consecutive season in the competition. While he was staying, one of the EuroCup's signature big men of recent seasons, Zach Auguste, made a move from Cedevita to last season's finalist and runner-up, Frutti Extra Bursaspor.
Joventut made moves
Joventut Badalona fortified its frontcourt by inking power forward Henry Ellenson to a two-year deal. He comes off a solid campaign with Monbus Obradoiro of Spain and is set to make his EuroCup debut next season. Joventut also re-signed up-and-coming swingman Yannick Kraag until the end of the 2025-26 season. Additionally, Joventut parted ways with playmaker Ferran Bassas, who switched EuroCup teams to sign a two-year contract with Gran Canaria.
More guard signings
Several guards joined EuroCup teams or extended their contracts with their current teams last week. Turk Telekom Ankara inked Tony Taylor, who is ready to make his EuroCup debut after having previously played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with PGE Turow Zgorzelec. London Lions brought in Mo Soluade, its first off-season addition. Lietkabelis re-signed do-it-all swingman Vytenis Lipkevicius to a two-year deal. Diego Flaccadori is set to stay with Dolomiti Energia Trento and athletic point guard Troy Caupain joined Pallacanestro Brescia. Prometey Slobozhanske brought in scoring guard Caleb Agada, who will make his EuroCup debut along with his new team.
